Charms :)
I'm writing two of them right now

@OctavianDamiean when's the time of Community Participation in Bonaire 3?

12:00 to 13:00.
@MarcoCeppi I'll start reading the documentation during the lunch.

is the UDS an annual event?

Two times a year.

meh, nothing interesting right now

3:07 PM
Of course!

Juju, duh

Oh I forgot, you've been bitten by a cloud one. :D

no juju for me, no charm!
charmin bear, maybe ;D

3:19 PM
Bonaire 1 feed died?
s/1/whatever/

It is back.

cut out for me again
althoguh im' having inet issues

It is fine for me.

There were weird networking issues a few mins ago

3:34 PM
mhm
my internet quality toileted just now
so i closed the audio feed

why are there three interesting sessions at 15:00 >:(
next time they should schedule the session according to my taste!

has a new personal objective
will become a Charmer

@htorque if you are here and marked yourself essential to the session they schedule it accordingly
but you would have had to do that way earlier
actually, I don't think you have to be local, you could be remote I guess

@tgm4883 that's the problem: i'm not essential :P
lol... no national referendum in greece, because the EU said so. reminds me of some other time, seven decades ago...

@htorque are you here?

3:43 PM
@tgm4883 oh i wish, but no. i'm just an ordinary user. :-)

@htorque so you need 3 sets of headphones then ;)

@OctavianDamiean is now a charmer

:-)

Wot?
No I'm a charm-contributor.

You're in the charm-contributors grup
oic
Just uploaded mine

3:44 PM
But don't worry I'll join you soon. :D

charmin baer :P

There is a question IRC.

Hello all

Community Participation in User Experience sounds interesting.

@TheEvilOne True, no bad questions, only questions that are not good.
Does anyone know the meeting in which @j(r)g is at?

3:59 PM
what a sentence!

Why don't you just ping him?

Oct 31 at 10:56, by Amith KK
I have given up randomness and trolling
ok, now to make that antiping script
GMAIL is getting a new look?

The new design is already live.

Before ^

EEEEEK
do not like

4:07 PM
Hi @RolandTaylor
After ^

they did it - they ruined a completely fine UI

@htorque Who?

makes it easier to leave gmail :P

@htorque Hey, use the Cozy option

@htorque They UI was awful as hell before!

4:10 PM
p-e-r-f-e-c-t!

wow, am I now on precise?

Oh Ubuntu and UEFI Secure Boot.

i think i'll start to run a squirrel mailserver :P

@htorque Roundcube is better!

cool, where's that, @OctavianDamiean?

4:12 PM
@OctavianDamiean Where is that?

Grand Sierra D.
Not right now.

This is so right.

I don't agree.
That depends on the topic I guess.

yeah, you learn nothing at all!
:P

On the topic and professor.

4:29 PM
@Explorer <82
@AmithKK you're a bit too early to declare you've given up randomness, if not trolling.

Oli
4:42 PM
I enjoy using iperf to test the capacity of parts of a network.
And improving things so I get closer to specified throughput. 1Gbps line is running at 981Mbps.
And now 987Mbps after fiddling with MTUs.

why do you waste 19 Mbps? :P

Oli
Well quite. Those are the kinks that are bringing this home network and even the country to its knees.

;-)

Oli
At least I could theoretically shift a gigabyte of data from RAM to another computer's RAM in 10 seconds.
20 seconds from my SSD to other computer's RAM (+ filesystem and bus overhead)
Ooo. iperf has a "Use this file" option. Let's see what the overhead is.

I changed my username here on Ask, but when I joined the chat I am reverted to my old name. Anyone know how to apply the new username on all the Stack Exchange sites? Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask...

Oli
4:49 PM
Your new name is Tom, right?

It usually takes a while until the changes on the main site get synchronized with the chat system.

New name is Tom Brossman, shows up fine on Ask Ubuntu. Here it's still JE2Tom

No it isn't...

Oli
@TomBrossman That's not what I see. Close chat. Open it again. Win!

Refresh the page :)

4:51 PM
F5 may help, I see @TomBrossman

F5 for the win, thanks!

5:10 PM
Patiently waits for Jorge...

Did he break something?
He is probably having lunch right now.

Well... I need clarification for something.

@GeorgeEdison ohai
@GeorgeEdison i hope you dont mind me sifting thrhough the StackApplet bugs like i did today :P

Bounty offered: How do I recover my data from an encrypted home directory? http://askubuntu.com/questions/38336/how-do-i-recover-my-data-from-an-encrypted-home-directory

@GeorgeEdison I see you fixed StackApplet!
♥!

5:21 PM
@GeorgeEdison Now, is it broken in Precise?
BBT

@TheEvilOne Thank you.
@RolandTaylor Yup!
Hopefully 1.5 will be released this month.

It's great to know when I get rep again :D
Without having to rely on Firefox :D

:)
Well it was only with your help that I was able to track it down.
(You and some others who helped with the bug.)

\o/
Should we really have tags for the community blogs?
(NB: Were are not in competition with them - this purely a matter of principle).

No, we shouldn't.
Feel free to retag.

5:31 PM
can we remove that tag?
or can a moderator od it?
say... @MarcoCeppi?
or @Oli

I can (remove it from the question, that is).

If I had the power I would have nuked it immediately!

ohey its @Marco :P

Ah Marco is here :)!

@Marco can you purge that?

5:33 PM
No, but it'll auto-delete after X days with no questions

No Marco, the world hasn't ended (that I, even I am happy to see you) :D
cool

@RolandTaylor :D

@Explorer XD

<verymuch

<infinitelyandthensome

5:35 PM
@GeorgeEdison
planning on adding a manually-configured list function?

Well... I'm not sure at this point.
It would be trivial to append Area51 to the end of the list.

@GeorgeEdison imo, the requested use case is a fringe-case

@GeorgeEdison got any plans for StackApplet in the future that would be exciting to hear about?

I'm considering some suggestions :P... but I still have to crystalize them :)

@RolandTaylor I'm considering a complete rewrite in Qt :P

@GeorgeEdison Qt... isnt that the KDE base for apps?
or am I wrong?

5:40 PM
@TheEvilOne It's a cross-platform C++ framework.

ah
i've seen a ton of Qt stuff in KDE hence why i asked

@GeorgeEdison nice!

@GeorgeEdison bugs.launchpad.net/stackapplet/+bug/680659 <-- "Won't Fix" worthy?
since its almost a year old

writing time

so question
these sessions in Grand Sierra D...
do they get broadcast to all the streams/rooms?

5:56 PM
Yes.
Oct 31 at 12:59, by jrg
it pulls it off http://fragaria.canonical.com:8080/stream.flv

hehe, precise removed VLC again :P

@TheEvilOne They're video casted

If you want to open it in VLC like me.

still the openstack stuff, waiting for uefi secure boot
why do i have uefi without secure boot? feeling so insecure now. :..(
:D

@MarcoCeppi videocasted... but also audiocasted for users who are not here?

Does he wear a helmet?

heh
@htorque i dont really care what i watch/listen to :P
where's UDS held?

@TheEvilOne Changes every UDS

Where to listen to in next? LTS upgrades or App development and the web standards community.

This one is in Orlando

6:10 PM
"Caribe Royale Hotel"

Six months ago it was in Budapest.

@OctavianDamiean if i'mi iaround, LTS Upgrades :P

@RolandTaylor the room freshen up when you entered

I mean there is also Wayland Tech Preview but that only makes sense if you are there in person.

is the group photo available?

6:11 PM
Wayland?

I know... I'm just surprised that they're talking about it.

any idea where the next is?
the next UDS

@OctavianDamiean still going to listen to it

6:13 PM
@Explorer :]
stop making me blush :D
jk!

Q: My computer is a hard sleepy

byerMy computer (Acer TravelMate 220) likes sleeping so much that I can't wake it up. I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 (installed Nov 2011). Based on similar questions posted, it seems to have been an issue in the past, but not so much now. I'm open to any advice. Worse case, I can deactivate the sleep mod...

LOL

I guess you are right. Listening to it won't hurt. After all we'll know first what will happen next. :D
hehe awesome. :D

they changed the schedule again. hmmm.

Oh boy... almost got another package running clean through Lintian.
That only leaves one (plus the one I have to talk to Jorge about).

"Finger print authentication" got axed (or merged with another session) :-( → nope, it's been moved to friday :)

6:18 PM
damn, openstack has a wonderful bug integration thingy
WHERE?
WHEN?

Bonaire 7 at 16:15

lol @ no questions

Alright, the schedule needs a rewrite. It is an awful website.

haha
"Ubuntu Friendly Programme: What it is and How it Works" ... and why "System Testing" crashes all the time.

6:24 PM
just removed ~/.checkbox → it had 300mb leftovers

She forgot about Ask Ubuntu!

I hate that question
WILL MY COMPUTER WORK WITH UBUNTU
yes, now go away

There is only one valid answer. Strawberry pudding.

linux guys always had a different idea of "works" than people buying hardware... >:)

6:26 PM
heh

no way
nice :)

Oh my god I love the new GMail design so much ... I better not tell how much.

I know! I want the freaking bounty!!
@OctavianDamiean how much?

slaps @OctavianDamiean

Better not tell. :D

6:27 PM
:P

But if it would be a woman I'd do nasty stuff to it. :P

:-O

@sadmicrowave sure, that's what it's there for. :)

THOSE are good slides

6:28 PM
I'll wait a couple of days though in case someone comes up with an uber-answer in the meantime

not tons of text on it

screenshots and the like

@StefanoPalazzo no problem, thats a good idea
Now I can get back to more pressing matters - like how @OctavianDamiean told me approx 1 year ago he would make a 'Sad Microwave' image

Hey Pacman is awesome!

unfortunately, checkbox' gui is worse than pacman's :D

6:30 PM
Oh god. I thought you wouldn't recognize me. :(

since you changed your avatar?
lol

Yes. :D

The name gave it away
Hopefully you never have to avoid the cops

Damn.
Right I assume you still want a sad microwave icon?

jrg
@OctavianDamiean I love it.

6:32 PM
lol its ok - just giving you a hard time

hehe, why doesn't ara polido wanna say 'discoverability'? :D

Maybe she doesn't like the word.

ask ubuntu badge for UF testing? FINE WITH ME! :D

@htorque I cringed when I heard that

Ask Ubuntu badge?
What badge?
I want one too!

6:37 PM
:D

WHY POPEY WHY

i think it's a good sign that actually someone thinks about something like that :)

Seriously what badge?

There is none

6:37 PM
someone mentioned something in the plananary

How would one get such a badge then?! :D

the "i ran system testing for ubuntu friendly"-badge that will be available by tomorrow.
>:D

no.

YES!
don't be lazy, dude...
just because that has nothing to do with AU...

(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

6:38 PM
:D

where's the other one? :D
i want a badges lens
"$USER ran 'rm -rf /' for the first time."

Also last time.

it actually doesn't work in ubuntu i've been told

A one-time badge.

6:42 PM
didn't try to verify, though. :D

Heck, let's try.

booting the vm

I'll setup a VM just to test that. :D

i'll kill an existing one :P

6:45 PM

Ah right.

wooooooohooooo! ;)

boring. ubuntu removes all the fun from linux.
:D

haha :D

Ok, nothing new so far in this presentation.
Oh wow. Gedit starts to look good. seilo.geekyogre.com/2011/11/gedit-dash-0-1

6:52 PM
@htorque That's standard.
