yo guys, short question (not sure if I should post in meta): Is it OK to add a method to my existing answer, that others have already mentioned? So my answer becomes the ultimate answer, which can be accepted by the asker?
@Alex As @bjb568 said, attribution is required. Note also, from the manifesto:
> AND ONE ANSWER PER POST! We cannot properly vet an answer that contain a list of solutions. There are times that a comprehensive answer might cover more than one variation, but if you see a post that is just a brain-dump of unrelated answers, please comment and get it edited down to one answer per post. Answers should be comprehensive, but one solution per post please!
@bjb568 I, of course, would do that, if I copy the exact answer. I'm wondering, from the asker perspective, if it's easier for the asker to accept an answer
@Mooseman thanks for pointing that out, but what would the asker accept if there are three answers that all perfectly solve the problem? Seems like a paradox to me
Well, thinking about it, this works the same way on SO, for example. Tons of ways to solve a coding problem and the accepted answer not always is the easiest or best one
@Alex More than one possible answer is common, and happens on many sites, not just LH. If there are several possible solutions added as different answers, people will vote up the one(s) they like best, and that's how they will get sorted.
The OP can accept the one he thinks will be most applicable to the situation, or just the one the community likes best, if he can't choose for himself. And no one is obligated to accept the answers.
If someone posted a method that you would otherwise have posted, vote it up. If you have two or more differing methods, but they each answer the question, treat them each as a separate answer, and post them as such. But be sure that they are separate in that case. If one method is simply a modification of another method (that you posted as answer), simply include it in that answer, rather than on its own.
@J.Musser Thanks for clarifying even more. Where you draw the line, where something is simply a modification or another method, depends on the specific problem, I guess. Anyways, I will leave my answer(s), that I linked before, in one post. I think it's a modification (instead of aluminum foil, conductive foam with a wire).
