@LeSam The method is called on the listener object, passing in the X and Y velocity components, and the index of the button pressed (for PC, this would be the mouse button; for touch screens, it would likely be button 0/left mouse button).

I was just giving a little justification as to why Almo might have been pinged. Apparently I'm wrong and it was abritrary. My bad.

@ShotgunNinja do you mean that I must press a button, then fling ? on my android phone ?

@iKlsR I'm calling hoax

Studying the video, their motions look really controlled

@LeSam NO! On Android, the button parameter doesn't matter.

6:02 PM
ok

Basically, it's only there because on PC, there are multiple mouse buttons.

I didn't like how the water bottle slid backwards when it was on the board... didn't feel right

On Android, it will likely always be set to 0 or some special value.

@iKlsR sees "the future has arrived" in the title
closes it

lulz

6:05 PM
closes Alex

Implying not only have we invented the hover board, we've invented the ability to keep people falling off of them by two tiny magical straps on the feet

This has got to be an elaborate hoax
No fucking way
I checked through the Legal page, too; no obvious listings of fallacy.
The comment from Tony Hawk - Fuck me.
I really want to believe it's a real product, but my natural cynicism isn't letting me.

i don't see any fans, and last I heard, we don't have anti-grav tech yet.

@ShotgunNinja it's working now, so it's called when the finger is released

Hello @ShotgunNinja

6:11 PM
funny vid though

@LeSam Yeah, that's the point. You don't want to "flick" until the actual flicking occurs.
sup @joapet99

Just finished a looting system for my game

Sweet. Hey, have you heard about the new hoverboard that's being made in time for Back to the Future?

yeah it's really cool
I'm pre-ordering one

HOVERBOARDS ARE REAL (finally!) thanks to huvrtech http://huvrtech.com #theyrehere http://instagram.com/p/lINkmIrHuX/

6:14 PM
and totally not a hoax

huvr is also the name of the stock exchange in India, apparently

yeah googling huvr gets you nowhere
> The inclusion of any products or services on this website at a particular time does not imply or warrant that these products or services will be available at any time.

:D

@Almo :(

ah, sneaky. I read over that, thinking it might be the admission of guilt, but I glossed over it.

6:24 PM
what is the price of one Huvr

there is no huvr

what is the price of hoverboards

there are no hoverboards

why ?
it's fake
it's not on sell
?

our human-PC interaction prof made us use wikispaces for our lab work
is this even necessary damn it
I hate it when profs push random software when it doesn't even help with anything

6:28 PM
@AlexM. ?

what

why did you said there no hoverboards ?
can you seriously answer me, and not talking about your human pc

how many commercial hoverboards can you name?

it's ok, can somebody else answer me ?

that is so much better
please next time don't ask me and ask someone else directly

6:31 PM
you can't just answer, you have to troll me everytimes

so grtst :')

@ShotgunNinja do you know the price of an hoverboard ?

@LeSam I'm not trolling you lol
it's just that I can't really tell what a "?" means when it's coming out of nowhere

@LeSam the legalese said just because they talk about it doesn't mean it will ever happen...

you can't answer a question by a question @AlexM.$

6:32 PM
@LeSam They're not on sale yet

15 mins ago, by ToddersLegrande
> The inclusion of any products or services on this website at a particular time does not imply or warrant that these products or services will be available at any time.

@LeSam of course you can

They might not ever be on sale.
They might not exist.

I let you find the answer yourself by leading you to it through simpler questions

@AlexM. only if the person asking the original question accepts a non-constructive proof ;)

6:34 PM
gtfo mick I don't have time for you
LEL

@ShotgunNinja but do you think their video is not a fake ?
@AlexM. yes but you are wasting times, you could just answer directly

no I'm not wasting time, I'm having fun

dude I read something about india earlier, didn't bother to look into it or even read how india is related, just because it is... clearly fake and gay

@AlexM. it's funny for you, not for me
it's annoying

that's too bad
I suggest you stop talking to me then

6:35 PM
@LeSam It has to be a fake. There's no way it would look that incredible.

I have to look after myself you know
I don't have the energy to also look after you

@ShotgunNinja the guy who made this edit must be really good

For sure.

In fact it's not shocking me, because we have already seen this in movie.

6:38 PM
it is possible that it's real, just unlikely

^
I'm leaning towards not real

Kind of scary what I didn't know about google

They could have lined the entire parking lot with high power magnets, and have a giant tesla coil just off camera powering the boards

@joapet99 That's a silly, sensationalistic video

Why is it a silly video

6:41 PM
@ShotgunNinja lol right?! I didn't bother clicking, @joapet99 the thumbnail caption says enough for me to make that same conclusion

I can't define if some technologies in this video are real OR if it's from the video editing

It isn't a documentary which is showing the life of google

lol Intel's XDK includes JSLint by default

it is more like a countdown

but their examples are full of issues spotted by it

6:43 PM
@AlexM. intel is a good old boy, don't acknowledge their flaws, ever.
I can't even continue that troll, I'm so disgusted, sorry fuck intel

lol

7:03 PM
damn it, Mick, close that tag
you should be ashamed as a programmer

he's probably not done promoting his music

ah, our messages are part of his promotion?
gotta get some feedback from real people, right?

who knows

THIS MUSIC SUCKS</shameless-self-promotion>

I bet he's waiting for us to say "Mick's music is the best."
now that I said that
he'll take it out of context

7:05 PM
too late. tag's closed.

and quote me with "Mick's music is the best." only

Is it ok if I completely omit the engine console, and let a REPL for the scripting language replace that
Or is there some reason why it would be nice to have a console that's simpler than the scripting language
prays for @JoshPetrie give some of his signature experienced reasoning

In some cases, you don't want the user to have access to the entirety of the scripting language, and in some cases, you do (see: HL2 vs Oblivion)
With multiplayer games, you really don't want players using the scripting engine for hacking.
The Source engine solves this by only exposing a few modifiable "CVARs" (console variables) and simple commands.

Quake 3... on the other hand...

Quake 3 actually uses a rather similar system to the CVAR system.

My idea so far is to leave it up to the game developer to decide when the console is available by forcing them to implement it themself if they want it

but it allows setting custom variables, so you can program stuff

7:32 PM
well, yeah, but it's far from allowing you to write executable code.
although there is a system in both to allow you to run existing script files...

It's pretty trivial to make the GUI textbox with transparent background, and enable modal on it, but after that the only easy way out is to eval() the text, if a dev wants the user to have console access but not script access they have to write a command processor

i had
bind a "lowsense"
lowsense = "set mousesense 3; bind a hisense"
hisense = "set mousesense 15; bind a lowsense"
so when i went into sniper mode, i'd hit a to get really fine control. added to that was my mouse wheel up fov = 10 mouse wheel down fov = 90
serious snipez man :)
then at 10 fov, I could still hit space to zoom further

The question is: Do you want to allow that type of control, or deny it?

or I could write the command processor as a utility class, but I still have the issue to resolve
so I'm leaning towards omitting it

Also, any game which doesn't have random offsets incorporated into their bullet trajectories is broken as shit

7:34 PM
aw man if you're crouching, and it's the first bullet though

Well yeah, having stabilization on the first shot is acceptable, but I mean not factoring in gun kick and wind resistance.

lol as long as that first one is on point, I agree spray and pray shouldn't be rewarded

dood man. Q3 would not be q3 with random shot fudges
but, counter strike wouldn't be counter strike without them
so... yeah. :)

Q3 is a different story.
That gametype depends on predictability of projectiles.

:)

7:37 PM
Q3 is all about quick reflexes and rocket jumps
CS is all about camping and making noobs yell at you for doing it

and plasma climbing. and grenade jumps. and strafejumping
hahahah

A: How do I stay awake during work without the use of coffee?

Alex M.The best long term solution is to try getting enough sleep. It's the healthiest way to be productive and realize caffeine doesn't necessarily give you the productivity boost you'd get after a good night's sleep. Is your schedule so full that you cannot get at least 6 to 8 (though this number can...

I sometimes go to the coffee machine at work to get a chocolate cappuccino
but that's only because I think it tastes good :(
not because I need it

good answer alex

most people there think it's my morning coffee
actually I remember getting a hot chocolate once
and someone said sth like "heh, chocolate"

two cups of coffee?
average finn drinks like three or four cups of coffee a day

7:41 PM
I drink tea :(

I drink only about two, so I'm not a heavy user

the guy edited his question: Edit: I do not beleive sleep is a problem. I always get to bed at around 11:45 PM and wake up at around 7:00 AM, with an approximate 15 minute leeway at each end.
I'd be inclined to think it's some sort of caffeine withdrawal symptom then but...
I'm only feeling well rested after 10+ hours of sleep

I need usually at least 8 hours, and 9-10 on weekends

my flexible schedule is really a luxury lol, normally set my alarm to start at 10 AM
but if I'm feeling to sleepy
I postpone it until 12
and stay at work until ~20 or 21

A: How do I stay awake during work without the use of coffee?

RyanI try to convince my coworkers to do this all the time! I never drink coffee, and aside from a few caffeinated sodas now and again, I don't drink/consume caffeine at all. Not only that, but I can get to work first thing in the morning. Now, to clarify, when I was growing up I was(still am, a b...

this answer is better than mine

but you were first, which is all that matters. ;)

7:47 PM
what if I didn't even feel tired until 5, and didn't fall asleep until after 6, then was awake at 8? am I screwed?

no

(currently running on < 2 hours of sleep and a half liter of pepsi)
(gonna die)

I usually go to my exams after 30 mins of sleep or none at all

I woke up 5am today

leaving that time when I failed because I didn't study aside
I always pass

7:48 PM
And it's already 10pm

just don't do it everyday
This is arguably the hardest part to sleeping. Getting up when your alarm goes off. But, if you do it, your body gets into the habit of it. I have 3 alarms on my phone just in case I miss one, but I never hit snooze.
lol I'm really tempted to release that app I had an idea for years ago
when the alarm would go off, you'd be presented with a screen saying
"Wake up you sad fuck."
two buttons:
"Okay I'm up."
"Snooze: $1.99"

hahahahahahah
holy shit
hahahah

lol I love it

that really is a great idea
:D

ikr

7:52 PM
I'd just push "I'm up" and fall asleep

if Blizzard ever made an Android phone

Because I'm a cheapskate

they'd have that as the default alarm clock app
or EA
yeah, EA too

nah, not Blizzard. they'd make you pay a subscription for the app itself, and if you wanted to change the look of the app you'd have to pay for that, but the snooze button wouldn't cost extra.

There have actually been couple of mornings when I woke up only to realize that the alarm has been turned off several hours ago
With no memory of turning it off

7:55 PM
EA would sell you a broken clock, then fix it a month later, then they'd release the alarm, snooze button, and additional skins as DLC

Valve would sell you hats for the alarm clock

EA would then release the same clock every year with an incremented number tacked onto the end of the name, and it would be the best selling app of the year every time.
Valve would have a sale on snooze button uses a few times a year, and people would buy 100x more than they'll ever use.
meanwhile everyone just ignores the open source version of this alarm clock that's completely free with every one of the features these paid ones have, just because you have to download it from some website and copy the files onto the phone manually instead of just downloading it through the store

well I'd agree with that but
just when I thought the bug genie was a great free and open source tracker
turns out the burndown charts it makes are broken
so... JIRA for $25 sounds reasonable
I also get rid of the confusing interface

lol, fair point

how it is broken?

8:01 PM
really, except for Linux as a whole

usually open source things just have some annoyances, not actual broken things

I've yet to find an open source software that doesn't make me think of it as a car with a half full tank

It's open source, you can fix it you know

yes
that's my main priority when searching for something to manage projects
fixing them

Someone has already made the tool for you for free, and you refuse to fix some bug it has just because you demand it to work just like all the commercial ones

8:03 PM
so you essentially agree open source software should not be considered an alternative to commercial software?
or rather, agree that the quality is lower?

well if there are commercial ones out there that don't have that bug, why not use them?

I mean

I like open source not because I can fix it, but because I can modify it

two identical sprints, showing different burndown charts
what the fuck.
the same sprint copy/pasted I mean

My point is you can't fix the bug in the commercial software by your own, and release the fix for the community

8:05 PM
no, but you do get immediate support from those like Atlassian

Only if you are lucky

if their support is any good
not that open source things often have good support

shrug I wouldn't know
but then again, it's not like lasse would know either
right now, all I know is, Jira works better for me
and $25 for a self-hosted solution is a steal considering this

JIRA is good shit.

I know I always avoid talking to customer support for anything, unless I know it can only be fixed by someone with greater permissions than I have. last time I did that was to recover some items in WoW that I got cheated out of by a strange dc glitch.
Blizzard customer support was amazing at that time, though. Way better than any other company I've had to talk to.

8:08 PM
last time I contacted Blizz support was... for some reason that I forgot
but their answer was something like "yeah no worries cool"
so it was fine lol

JIRA is god damn expensive
25 users
$1,200

JIRA is god damn good. loads of customizations
stable

I only need the 5 user license

1,200 for 25 users doesn't seem too expensive. what's the cheapest option?

a project manager I once worked for said "JIRA is the best software ever made"

8:09 PM
and $1200 for a one-time payment is not expensive for a serious company of that size

he was a good project manager, even if he did for some reason not like me.
hahah
            CreateCourse("Another Course", "A course not available yet", "Oh noes", true, null, null);

I wish I had the resources to create my own perfect project management software :(

just make something basic for Scrum, and sell it on a subscription basis

lol that $1200 does not even include agile support

it seems the bug genie is the only free option

8:12 PM
another $600 for agile, and $300 on top of that for service desk features

it's still sort of cheap, considering it's a one time payment
from what point of view are you saying it's expensive?
Hansoft is a widespread alternative to JIRA
no one-time payments
consider how expensive that gets as time passes by

Hansoft is figgin horrible, too.

I saw their video

Had to use that at Autodesk, until our team said "fuck it, we're using JIRA".

I was attracted by their "free for startups" thing
but I thought it was too complicated and confusing

8:17 PM
if you have 25 employees
your salary outlay is probably around a million a year
even $3k for JIRA (as a one time thing) is cheap

I guess you're right on that

I want to ask at arQAde what CounterStike is all about, and have Alex say his starred thing, and I accept it as the correct answer

Do it
It'll be hilarious

lol
we'd both get downvoted to hell

hahah yeah for sure
but we'd still be right!

8:20 PM
yup
good guy bioshock

:D

I wonder if I should for once just make a game and push it out in minimal time, and not care about the code quality
And see how well it does
And then do it again, and again
like every month

try it once at least

I would need someone to do the assets though
:(

I'll drop a relevant quote from Coders at Work by Jamie Zawinski
if I can find the book on my PC... I read it on my tablet

8:27 PM
Or I could just use some stick-figures

one second

And black and white colour scheme

@Lasse If you build it with programmer art so it works you will have a much easier experience finding someone to invest their time

> I hope I don’t sound like I’m saying, “Testing is for chumps.” It’s not.
It’s a matter of priorities. Are you trying to write good software or
are you trying to be done by next week? You can’t do both. One of
the jokes we made at Netscape a lot was, “We’re absolutely 100
percent committed to quality. We’re going to ship the highest-quality
product we can on March 31st.”

@MickLH I guess so

8:30 PM
btw this is probably one of the best bundles ever: bundlestars.com/all-bundles/adrenaline-bundle
for €4.39
mainly because it contains expeditions: conquistador

too few linux titles

fun fact: expeditions was made with unity

@AlexM. Yeah, that's a good one
There's a new humble android bundle too

why is it a fun fact? who gives a crap for what it is made with as long as it is good?

Cubetractor is an excellent game ^

8:31 PM
spelunky is made with game maker

hahaha

Fun Fact: Most "Fun Facts" are usually lame :p

:( such low ratings for my second favorite blonde beer

I'd probably have called it the Beerdex

Your face is lame, Noctrine!
This user has been banned from the chat.

8:33 PM
@Lasse I like to know what was used to make each game I'm interested in

lol

I'll try to make a game using Intel's XDK
seeing some vids and demos, the HTML5 performance is not a problem for simple 2D stuff
and I think it would do my team good to remove the need for that Unity subscription... just to make 2D games with a couple of screens

not a problem for simple 3D stuff either. problem comes with complex stuff.
well, I dunno about Unity. I just mean HTML5 in general.

Sleepy time, gn

like N64 level graphics would run in a browser pretty nicely, but not Xbox 360 level.
see ya, Lasse

8:43 PM
On 1 March, he (Interim Ukrainian President Oleksandr Turchynov) warned, "Military intervention would be the beginning of war and the end of any relations between Ukraine and Russia."
man it sucks to be so small and declare a possible war on Russia
but now that you look at it how was Russia allowed to get so big
there should be some sort of international policy to not allow behemoths like Russia to exist
but this would also disband the US
so the "world" would probably not agree

yeahhh... that sorta also doesn't really offer protection just divides people further and encourages world war

sucks to be Romanian
you're with the US in its wars
and you sold your natural resources to Russia, so you buy them from them
I wonder if they'll cut our own natural gases if we join the US in an eventual world war
or maybe we can take them back by force

fuck war

intel has a game example... that they acknowledge it doesn't work well on all platforms
what
The Counting Beads app is created using HTML5, JavaScript, CSS3, and jQuery*. It has the the following characteristics:

Works on in Google* Chrome* browser only - Does not work on Android* devices as a PhoneGap* compatible app
Uses CSS media query for different layout of different devices
Absolute positions are used for all element layouts
ooh ok

well, right now the massive countries are all preventing wars just by existing. you get small things like our occupation of Iraq or Russia taking over a city, but those aren't really wars, and relatively speaking not many people are dying because of those conflicts.

8:58 PM
lol as if Russia will try to stop there

russia kind of has an excuse for taking that city, because most of the people there are russian anyway. also they had an agreement to use the port there, and when the Ukrainian government was overthrown, it looked like that agreement would be broken. so they probably won't face any retaliation for that, other than possibly minor economic and political pressure.
but they will stop there, because if they went farther, it's very likely other big countries would get more involved

no they don't have an excuse lol
Ukraine != Russia

oh come on

they clearly violated Ukraine's independence

they also can't attack neighboring countries like Poland because they're part of NATO, which would force bigger countries to get involved.

8:59 PM
that's worse than saying Japanese != Chinese

I think the point is Putin is not afraid of bigger countries
if he dares to do stuff like that
