7:00 PM
Are you still working on Minerwars?

@JohnMcDonald no i left when we released it on steam
@JohnMcDonald but its "opensource" now

Really?
weird

It was released recently, no?
It's not uncommon for old games to get released open-source, but new ones?

i think its because we couldnt figure out how to make mods work with our obfuscator :)

7:03 PM
ah: "You need to own Steam version of Miner Wars 2081 to create or play MODS"

and if you release .net program without obfuscation it doesnt matter if you open source it :)

Q: Is the Comic Sans font easier to read for dyslexics?

tpg2114After getting into an argument with a friend about the use/existence of the Comic Sans font, he said that it is one of the few typefaces that virtually eliminates confusion among dyslexics. It appears others have the same opinion. Many sources present anecdotal evidence such as: Most signif...

why would you ban a FONT?
a font is just... a font
it does not cause anyone direct harm
it's like, putting guns in jail, instead of those who use them to kill people
and this is not even a good analogy
a font does not harm anyone even when used by someone

7:07 PM
@BogdanMarginean so you would ban people who use comicsans? :)

how can you ban someone?

@BogdanMarginean i dont know, same way you put a gun in jail :)

you can put a gun in jail
if someone uses comic sans in your company and you don't like it, just tell him not to use it for example
or fire his ass
banning a font makes no sense
it's like someone forcing justin bieber not to sing because people don't like him
"The font makes many professional sounding documents look like they were written by a three year old. "
this petition was written by a three year old

@BogdanMarginean to be honest banning twighlight doesnt seem so unreasonable :)

@Kikaimaru to you

7:11 PM
@BogdanMarginean obviously, who do you think i am talking for? ;)

I don't like twilight either, but I wouldn't for anything request a national ban on it
actually I have no idea why I'm complaining
no one ever forced me to twilight anything
I'm just following the "gee twilight sucks" trend
I'm living my life without having one contact with twilight
and I bet you do too
why ban it then?
just wait till the petition gets on 9gag
every idiot who's never been in contact with comic sans will vote on it
because 9gaggers are srs bzns and hate comic sans you know
okay, so sockets are pretty similar from afar to those pipe thingies on UNIX systems
through which processes communicate

@BogdanMarginean i doubt that it can really be banned even if everyone wanted it :)

@Kikaimaru that does not add to the discussion at all
I'm talking about the intention behind the petition

7:45 PM
this makes me dizzy but it's so awesome codepen.io/noahblon/pen/GKflw

@BogdanMarginean The intention is to troll

@JohnMcDonald then they succeeded lol :P

Apparently
heh

Server <-> Client looks like a two-way observer implementation

comic sans is horrible
that dizzy link is awesome.

7:50 PM
yeah, found it in the mail today

@Almo but I love it

@BogdanMarginean, Don't fall for @Gajoo's tricks

what where who
what did I do :O

my javascript chat is finished!
no only implement the whole game

@JohnMcDonald what tricks? :D

7:58 PM
Believing that he loves Comic Sans

well, he can love it for all I care :D
okay, so for the common interface of servers and clients: they both receive and send data

It really is a horrible font. Poorly designed in general. Bad letter spacing. The only reason it is common is because it's the only "playful" font that shipped with Windows.

@BogdanMarginean yes. eg: Your web browser is a client, and stack exchange is a server

yup
I'm following a TCP/IP C# tutorial and trying to wrap my own stuff
I'll have two classes (Server and Client) each implementing ICommunicator (not sure if I like the name)
technically, the client has to check if the server's gone too, so they're pretty similar in this regard as well
the only difference is at the startup
the server listens, and the client connects

correct

8:04 PM
afterwards, they both do the same thing

tutorial says while ((true))
my lisp sense is tingling

jahaha

Woo!
DataTrigger animations!
A bit of flickering though.
But it looks sexy.

@JohnMcDonald but I really do,

8:12 PM
@ToddersLegrande, You around kid?

@William'MindWorX'Mariager "Kid remains silent for a while. He knows windbags don't ever bring good news."

Hah
Bastion
I'd love to have that kind of voice over in my game some day.

well
the bastion narrator must be cheaper to hire than morgan freeman

check out his interviews on youtube
he doesn't sound like in bastion irl

8:24 PM
There's a hint of it though. He has a raspy voice. :P

@CodeAssassin think this color scheme is more appropriate? dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17635452/Templ.jpg

Blue link is kinda hard to read

yeah I'll replace it
thing is, this way, I'm making my website too much of an obvious copy of Arkane's
but white + gray does apply to business more
it seems all game makers have black websites lol
I don't like dark that much, so I'll just go with the best solution: a color scheme for each new flagship product
made the link more readable
this should be enough for the TCP/IP chat thingy
alternatively, I can remove the interface and leave the superclass only
won't do that though, I'll leave it for the sake of good OOP practices

8:48 PM
Yay for animations.
Next up I should work on my data sending. It's kinda funky right now.
Haven't quite figured out how to send complex types.
So right now I'm just sending a String,String dictionary with information from the service to the client. :P
A bit messy for something strongly types like C#.
And not very refactor friendly.

how are you sending them?
you could wrap things in a separate class/struct like SendableData
send byte streams
and parse them

I'd have to make the class twice. Shared libaries between Silverlight and .NET is difficult.
Not that I haven't done it before, but I'd rather find something more suited for this.

but what are you trying to send?

Various things.
Username, warcamp id, inventory, party, etc.

because I don't understand how sharing libraries between slight and .net is necessary for sending user defined types
you're sending byte streams
doesn't slight understand byte streams?

8:53 PM
I'd need the type on both the server and client?

just define it then?

Like I just said, then I'd have to make the class twice.

in the same project?

Once on the client side, once on the server side.
Yes.

why is your client and server in the same project?

8:55 PM
Why not?

heya guis

It's much easier, I can edit server side and client side at the same time.

are you sure you don't mean SOLUTION?

Same solution of course.
My bad

then I don't see why it would be bad for the server to also know of the type

8:55 PM
Because it can't.

it makes no sense for the server to work with types it does not know

Can't share between silverlight and .net.
Like I just said.

why not

erm, of course you can mate

@Jimmy, Only way I made that work before was with some MSBuild magic or linked classes.

8:56 PM
you're not sharing windows specific stuff

@BogdanMarginean, Give it a try.

if you define it as a "silverlight library" I think it should be able to be used by either

Silverlight and .NET isn't the same.

since silverlight is a subset of .NET

heya jimmy!

8:57 PM
@Jimmy Not last I tried.

Hi PIP

what's up?

Maybe it has changed since. I'll give it a shot.

can you do freaking class A { int a; int b; } and let silverlight recognize it?

8:58 PM
my counter will still not WORK!
i even directly copied the counter, off of the internet,
into a new python/pygame program
and it still didn't work!!!

The project 'TinkerWorX.GWSData' cannot be referenced. The referenced project is targeted to a different framework family (Silverlight)
So like I said, MSBuild magic or linked files.
Which both are kinda messy. :(

btw Will, the register button and login buttons work on that site for me :D

@PythonInProgress :D
And the center panels pop up and down?
In the bottom.

yeah i think so (it was last weekend)
whats the link again>

Ah :P
It has changed since.

9:02 PM
oh kk i will look

Login from last should still work :)

kk brb, but should the center bar scroll up? it is just a small bit on the bottom that doesnt do anything

Yeah, it should scroll up when you log in.
And scroll down when you log out.

ahh ok i didnt log in yet
can you look at the password list? I used a dummy password that i totally forget :P

Haha, I can't.

9:05 PM
lols

@ToddersLegrande have been requesting a password reset option. :P
I guess I should implement that next.

very good idea
kk i made an account with dummyemailtotest@gmail.com
it works
btw an idea. where the options menu is (before you log in) is where the password reset option should be (then it changes to options)

I've been thinking about making a larger panel in the bottom with login controls rather than a popup. I should have all the things there.
Or perhaps in the center of the screen.
Center is better as it requires focus.

true! sorry i cut out @William'MindWorX'Mariager all my programs crashed :P
idk why

9:14 PM
so, whats the goal for that game?

Ever seen the game Die2Nite?
It's a browser game about survival.
Very cool concept.
I'm going to try and make something similar. But with goblins and some other changes I like. :)

9:31 PM
@William'MindWorX'Mariager i will look at it :P

@William'MindWorX'Mariager whats up?

can't change my oDesk name :(
why! damnit
I'll email support

9:50 PM
oDesk?

dafaque?

www.odesk.com

Desk oDesk = new Desk();

whenever you see a name, just add a .com to it

9:51 PM
^ bad notation

if it does not work, google it
You will be transferred to the first available service representative. There are approximately 2 user(s) ahead of you.
APPROXIMATELY

ahh interenting
lols

might be 2 and a half
I find "Bogdan" to be too annoying to pronounce by English speakers
and most of the time it comes out wrong
so why not use my 2nd name: Alex
which more or less, has an equivalent in a lot of languages

Bahg-den

alex. change your game guy!
obscure reference... nvm

9:54 PM
nope, it's more like bog-dahn
so yeah that bog thing is also not appropriate :P

Bog-den would have worked for me
But I agree... bog-dahn is kind of weird
its like

bogged on

right?

9:55 PM
lols

something like it

i just bogged on to stackexchange :P

KABOOM
actually it did not apply
testing
I think I have to also change it for chat
oooh, odesk replied
but it seems it's a bot
