Haha, already read all those Wired articles. Sucked up everything about this movie in the 2 weeks after having seen it two times. As well as all the 50 questions here.
@MattD Oh didn't know. I guess cinematographers belong to those guys nobody really knows, like screenwriters or all those costume/production designers.
Given that The Lego Movie displayed a new style of animation, was there any specific technical reason why it was not nominated in the category of "Best Animated Feature Film" at the 87th Academy Awards
I'm not looking for a general opinion on if the movie was good enough or not. I am more curiou...
Ahhhh, nothing like the older members of my family wishing Billy Crystal was hosting over NPH. I like Crystal, but he doesn't play to the generation these shows go for nowadays.
@MattD Well, they tried to reach the younger generation with Franco/Hathaway in the past and it didn't really play out (though, they beat Chris Rock anytime). But sure, Billy Crystal is just a safe bet.
I hated how all the people bitched about his speech last year (McConaughey, that is). I found it was great and very original compared to all that canned thank you stuff.
@NapoleonWilson Immigration is a huge topic in the US right now, especially illegal immigration from Mexico. It also happens that this has been a big night for the Hispanic community given how many people of Hispanic descent won awards tonight. Off color a bit, but not meant to be mean.
Hmm, no Zimmer, no Nightcrawler, no special sountrack performance, a great and surprising Lady Gaga and a Neil Patrick Harris that wasn't really bad but also not memorable at all and stayed quite, well, pale afterall. Not a disaster, but also not a show to remember that much, I guess.
@Catija Meh, drenched in subjectivity of course. Just happens, get over it (not you, the author of course).
But wait, do you say Raiders of the Lost Ark and E.T. were nominated for Best Picture and there isn't a place for Interstellar? Bah, as much as I don't share Wolfgang Schmitt's negative attitude towards the Oscars, I got to somehow agree with him about the self-imposed pseudo-pretense. You're not going to nominate really groundbreaking indie-films anyway, so where's the good old Hollywood cinema?
@NapoleonWilson Of course... The Academy has a history of awarding good films and bad... and some years there's more depth of quality. If this had been nominated next to Gladiator, it would have certainly won... but there was a ton of quality films to choose from.
Well sure, the Academy just goes wild over biopic stuff like Imitation Game and Theory of Everything, what am I complaining about.
@NapoleonWilson You could at least complain about the artificial limitation to 8 nominees. But ok, let's face it, Interstellar just wouldn't have fit to all those (supposedly!) deep movies anyway, so that might be the reason for just 8 nominees in the first place. Meh, at least I liked Birdman and it was a technical masterpiece afterall, rather that than 12 Years a Boy.
Disney's inspirational sports drama formula might be old hat, but McFarland, USA proves it still works -- especially with a talented director and eminently likable star in the mix.
The DUFF doesn't achieve teen-movie greatness, but offers enough of a postmodern twist on the genre to recommend -- and boasts typically great work from star Mae Whitman.
All I can remember is that at some point in the filmm, there is a scene where the villian/villians are eating sushi off a naked woman, then some ass gets kicked by the hero.
Any ideas?
@AnkitSharma Ah! Cool. Just wondering if you can advise me on what to do about the answer on the Lego Movie question. Should the answer be added to the question somehow?
Yesterday I watched The film for the third time in a week. What a hidden gem this film is!
Anyway my question is why did Jack Burton refuse to kiss Gracie at the end? he has already done so twice but then refuses to when they're in the restaurant.
Usually in these types of movies we see the her...
In the first few series Arya's name was pronounced Arryah (leading to her name 'arry).
However towards the end of series four (particularly the fight with Brienne and The Hound) her name is pronounced Aiyaa (even Masie Williams her character introduces herself this way).
Is there any reason bet...
I watched this filma and remember the name of it, it starts off with 4 or 5 students that try communicating with the dead, one of them uses a hand held camera and this "demon" comes through and picks up the one girl and pulls her into the darkness. The movie then follows this guy who was her boyf...
There were so many instances in Game of Thrones when someone unsheathes a Valyrian Steel like when Mormont presents Jon Snow with Longclaw and like the one where Brienne pulls out the reforged sword made from Ice when she is about to fight the Hound the person opposite to them immediately identif...
@Catija Ah... that was my vote: very funny movie. Also very visually beautiful... the 24fpx claymation with the camera movment was stunning and really effective.

Any UK chaps care to chime in on this, possibly users from other Euro zones as well where the UK cut may have been showcased? I'm curious myself. movies.stackexchange.com/q/31407/5733
@MattD The problem is though, that probably every one has just seen a single version either, so comparisons are quite hard to do.
Interesting, though, that they really made this R in the US, seeing how much they chase PG-13 nowadays and how this movie seemed to target youth audiences anyway.
@NapoleonWilson I thought it interesting as well, but then again Vaughn pretty much went for a hard R rating with Kick-Ass, but then again that film likely wouldn't have been as good had they gone for a PG-13 rating.
Kingsman got there by virtue of the amount of "fucks" it literally gave in the dialog, coupled with the, ahem, ending scene....
In Ridley Scott's 2005 film Kingdom of Heaven, only after the bloody 3 day siege of Jerusalem ends in stalemate do Balian and Saladin agree to terms allowing the inhabitants of the city to peacefully evacuate.
Was it explained in the film why Balian didn't simply ask for terms with Saladin befor...
I am not sure why this movie was called Project Almanac.
As far as I remember the protagonists just make up the name out of the blue and never mention it again, so maybe there is no significance at all and it is just a random code word. (One of them also says he wants to be called "Obsidian One"...
I saw Project Almanac today and I am not even going to ask about any of the highly unlogical time travel events of the movie. Instead I want to ask about one of the events that takes place and the connection to real life.
When the gang travels back 3 months into the past to visit the music fes...
I did look around before asking so hopefully this isn't a duplicate.
With shows like The Walking Dead, why do they use a 2-part season? There are other shows like Son of Anarchy that do not have a 2-part season. Some shows such as American Horror Story take a break for the holidays, but there is...
Everyone knows this scene! Indiana Jones narrowly escapes death by a huge rolling boulder in the Raiders of the Lost Ark. However I recently watched the original Journey to the Center of the Earth with James Mason again and was delighted to find the same scene is used here were he too and his par...
