@Shalvenay Hey!
@JDĹ‚ugosz No. Amazon will sell you some training books (that given the very rapid pace of change at AWS) are outdated in two years or so.
...but they aren't a training organization in and of themselves. (though maybe they are. I've never looked into paid training from them. It never made sense since just getting a free account then messing around seemed so much more effective.)

11 hours later…
1:51 PM
@Green You know some of us prefer to be lazy so organized education is better. :D

Hmmmmmm.
So.....if a child was born in the ISS, what would the effects of microgravity have on his development before being born?
The second question is: since the ISS is not on any national territory (aka: LEO), what legal implications would being born in the ISS have?
Say for example: what citizenship does the first person born in space have?

@James I know you're kidding but being lazy in an organized education is how you gain exceptionally small amounts of useful information. Book knowledge is worth way less than the deep knowledge of doing.

And when his parents return to Earth, would the child be able to cope with Earth's gravity?

I can't wait till I have students who complain about some ambiguity I give them and I'll be all "The world is uncertain. There's rarely the one true answer. Deal with it or get out of my class."
I'd love to teach at harvard and just break all their super optimized little minds.

@Green? Excuse me, but....I have to ask myself: if a child was born in the ISS, what citizenship does he/she have?

1:57 PM
@Green Team teach? That sounds like fun.

And more importantly, would the child be able to adapt to Earth's gravitational pull when his parents return to Earth from the ISS?

@James I'm down but I'm not sharing my tenure with you.

Because I am wondering about two things: the effects of microgravity on childbirth and the legal implications behind a person who is not born on a celestial body.

@Green Fine...
I'm sure we could get a book deal out of that though.

@James For sure! Can we call it "Breaking the brains of the 'Supersmart'"?
I'd like to do this. No homework. No exams. Each of you will be graded in one on one or group interviews at the end of the semester.

2:02 PM
Hmmmmmm.

You'll have work to do all semester. If it changes you, I'll know at the end of the semester. If you aren't different than when you entered my class, you'll have failed.

Anything regarding the legal implications for a child born in the ISS?

Further, there is only pass/fail. I don't give grades.

Because I am still wondering about what legal implications having a child born in space would have.
Would the child have his/her parents' citizenship or would he/she be stateless, due to him/her not being born in any national territory?

And since I clearly don't give a crap about Academia, the only way that they would have me work there is if I'm so staggeringly successful in some other area that they can't help but hire me.

2:04 PM
@Green I am going to coat-tail this one so go get successful and stuff.

@James My aim is to charge $1000/hr at some point and have people be happy to have gotten me so cheap.
I do need a good PM because I can't organize a project to save my life.

@Green Deal.

Done.

I was going to offer to be your assistant...I mean someone has to keep you from going insane with power and success.

2:08 PM
You'll have to move somewhere else though.

as opposed to just insane?

But then I'll be the benevolent dictator, not you James. Can you handle it?

Cause I think I know you well enough to know that you would lose your sh...tuff at that point.
@Green Of course I can face ma....er sir.

Hmmmmmmm.

@James BAHAHAHAHHA!!!! I mean... MUAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAH!!!!

2:09 PM
Is anyone aware of the legal implications of a child born outside of a celestial body for the first time?
Say, I have a son or daughter of two astronauts born in the ISS. What rights does the child have? What citizenship does the first "spacer" have? That kind of thing.

@Green by benevolent dictator, you do mean meatshield for the power behind the throne right glorious leader of all humanity right?

And why do I feel like I am talking to myself?
:(

@FutureHistorian cause you seem to be.

@JourneymanGeek Nah, I'm smart enough to let someone else be the meatshield. :D

@JourneymanGeek. I am only asking for the legal implications of a child being born in the ISS.
As in: imagine the first person born outside of Earth.
What legal implications does that child need to go through?

2:12 PM
@FutureHistorian see? If people arn't responding the first time... asking differently ... 20 times isn't going to help.
Maybe try later, or even the main site?

@JourneymanGeek @FutureHistorian This is what the main site is for! :D

@FutureHistorian I don't pay attention to you because you don't seem to pay attention to anything else that someone else has to say or for what the topic of the room happens to be. Every time I've seen you talk, it's always been about you and your questions. I don't have time and attention for someone who can't participate in a normal conversation.

@FutureHistorian LMGTFY is apparently frowned upon, but you might be surprised what 30 seconds of typing and reading will turn up. Like this link, which was the second result on the list: quora.com/What-is-your-nationality-if-you-are-born-in-space

not on chat XDXDXD

2:20 PM
@JourneymanGeek Good point!

@FutureHistorian so change my mind about you and start contributing to the conversations in chat. I have nothing against you personally but your behavior doesn't make me want to talk to you or answer your questions.

@FutureHistorian while I kinda wouldn't put it the same way @Green would - I typically do feel it would be nice if you were more mindful of the conversations going on, or even that folk may or may not be interested in your little fictional creation.

Sorry.
As I was saying.....I asked the question back in the Space Exploration SE.
So.................too late now.

@FutureHistorian Everyone is learning. Conversations like this are part of the learning process. It's okay.
I would have asked that question about citizenship in Politics if they permit speculative questions.
We already have plenty of laws about what to do for people who aren't born on terra firma. People are born on ships all the time.

heh
Also a lot of countries do give citizens to "nationals" born overseas
I had a sri lankan citizenship for... 20ish years despite never stepping foot there
some countries also give citizenship for decent.

2:25 PM
A lot of questions can be answered by asking "WHat's something similar that happens already and how does that work?" I've gotten lots of upvotes from answers like that.

So, @JourneymanGeek? Who is in the ISS right now?

@FutureHistorian now, lets step back for a moment, and consider - is this something trivial to look up, and have I said I was interested?

@JourneymanGeek Which wreaked tons of havoc in Australia when lots of legislators discovered they had dual citizenship with AU is very clear about having only one citizenship for national leadership.

@Green renouncing sri lankan citizenship is a pain in the rear
took ages
Was almost tempted to walk into the embassy and tear up my passport XD

@JourneymanGeek there was lots of turn over as the Aussies had to resign.

2:28 PM
@Green read about that, what a mess!

@JourneymanGeek I don't know what you look like in real life but my mind's eye has you as a big loveable dog typing on a keyboard.

(basically for some reason they need to do background checks, military needs to make sure you arn't a terrorist or some shit)...
@Green big?

@FutureHistorian I don't mind helping you personally. But I like to see a little initiative, and also follow through. 85% of the time you can answer the question just by finding other people who asked the same question and got answers already. 8% of the time you can get the answer by asking the question yourself. 5% of the time you might need help on the right way to ask the question. 1% of the time the question has no answer.

@Green my canine ava is small and elderly ;p

@JourneymanGeek oh. BAHAHAHAHAHHAHAA
Hi Ava!

2:31 PM
naw, he's ash. ;p
ava = avatar

@JourneymanGeek Ah, I'm sorry.

He's going to be 13 in april

Nice! When you said he was ash I though you meant he had died and been cremated.

oh good heavens no.
He's doing great
His name's Ash.

@JourneymanGeek Ah, I misunderstood. Good stuff!

2:34 PM
Oh.
I am back.
And I just asked the question out of curiosity sake anyway.
Because I am.......
snores

AKA the grumpy old man, retaival rangadoo (the two tailed rascal), vallu paiyan (boy with a tail) .... ;p

@JourneymanGeek Where does two tailed rascal come from?

@Green I think its a 70s tamil comic

@JourneymanGeek Ah. I have zero exposure to those. I'd have bet the exist if someone had asked but never considered it till just now.
:)

a lot of his nicknames are in tamil ;p

Q: Worldbuilding Discord Server

LutroIn case you don't know, Discord is somewhat of a chatroom. (I know that Worldbuilding already has them). Discord is much more polished as a communication medium, you can create different 'channels' within the main server and switch between them with a click. Roles may be given to users and permi...
