12:20 AM
@Bellerophon Abdomen seems abnormally long as do both arms. When held down at the side, the fingertips should reach to about halfway down the thigh, whereas these look like they'd hit the knee instead. Head might also be too small, but it's hard to tell with how some of the other features look at the moment. The head seems to match the shoulder ratio though, so I think it's a combination of things throwing the perspective off.

12:47 AM
hey again @Pleiades

1:15 AM
@Shalvenay hey!
I think I could give your VAX some TLC.

@Green :P yeah -- we have some crazy hardware at work

What on earth are you using a VAX for?
Those are like infinity old.

:P they run a business-critical system at the company (in fact, the system I'm working on the replacement for)
(said business critical system went into prod in the late 80's hence the VAX)

1:58 AM
Geez. That hardware is bomb proof!
How are you ensuring system behavior stays the same between the VAX and the replacement?

@Green we're reworking lots of things, so we really can't :P
(we're trying our darndest to make sure that the changes are improvements though)

Implementation updates and business process updates at the same time. Damn. How do manage that risk?
That feels almost like a fresh implementation with hints on how to do things.

2:21 AM
@Green it pretty much is, although we inherited the code from a vendor who had spent years bolting onto an older implementation

4:31 AM
@Green so just what is "AWS Certification"?
@Bellerophon Arms too long, head too small... you can find diagrams that give normal proportions in terms of "heads"; that's an easy way to check it.
@Pleiades Try Universe Sandbox². You can easily drop bodies into orbits, fiddle with the sizes, etc. and then let the simulation run to see how soon it fails and how.

@JDługosz there's lots of AWS certifications. Some for DevOps, Developers, Architects and a few others. I have the Architect cert which is supposed to mean that I know my way around AWS (and I do). The Pro level Architect cert is far far stronger.
The cert if have asks, essentially, "Do you know what this AWS service does?" The Pro level cert asks "In this situation, what combination of AWS services is best?" The combinatorial effects are much harder to deal with.

11:39 AM
@Shalvenay oh man! What a nightmare! And that likely means no test cases for the code or test data sets either. Oh gross!
I'm writing in a project now where a consulting firm reimplemented/duplicated a ton of functionality that was a part of the core product and they did a sh** job of it. We hired another contracting firm to come in and clean up the poo left behind by the first one. Sheesh. What a mess.

@Green we have lots of test cases, but no test automation to speak of due to architectural issues.

Morning all

@AndyD273 Help vampires...really, lol.

4:07 PM
@James Yeah. I ran into it on one of the SO forums that wouldn't let me in because I have a few too many questions per answer in that exchange. I guess they probably run in to the problem of people trying to get fast answers instead of going through the whole asking an official question process.

4:23 PM
@James So I figured I'd go and delete some of my really old SO questions that never got answers to improve that ratio. I mean, if a question doesn't have an answer after 4 years it probably never will. I got a message saying that since I deleted 5 questions any further deletes are blocked. Is there a cool down period?

4:37 PM
@AndyD273 Hadn't seen that before, not sure.

Well, there's only one like that left. I'll just wait till tomorrow and see if it lets me then

5:30 PM
@James So nothing on that deleted comment from the other mods, eh?

@Aify No one claimed responsibility though there was unanimous consensus that links from whats it called are frowned upon.

Links from what it's called?
Links from LMGTFY you mean?

For what its worth we delete alot of comments so someone not recalling isn't that surprising.
@Aify Yeah that.

Gotcha
Thanks.

@Aify Np.

5:52 PM
@JDługosz @Shalvenay @Pleiades Any better?

@Bellerophon You're a regular DaVinci
For the record I have no idea what you are asking them to comment on...

@James I asked them what was wrong with the proportions on an older version.

@Bellerophon Well it looks pretty human to me, so unless you are trying to make a halfling or goat or something looks pretty good.

Yeah, the first version had a bit of a slenderman vibe about it..

6:22 PM
@Bellerophon That looks much better. The chest still seems a bit off to me, but that might have more to do with how I do things myself.

6:51 PM
Hang on, also on a second look, I'm not sure about the feet. Their ratio should be 1:1 with the length of the head from chin to top.

@Pleiades They roughly are it just doesn't show up because of the angle.

@Bellerophon That's what I thought but I wanted to be sure since that's an easy one to miss. I went years before I learned that ugh

7:40 PM
@Shalvenay Painful but not as painful as it could be. You could not have test cases nor test automation.

8:02 PM
ArtofCode is running for mod on SE. stackoverflow.com/election

@Green service: Ah, Amazon's cloud thing. I thought it was some kind of training organization.
@Bellerophon To my eye, he looks to be more like 8 heads tall, rather than the normal 7. My first impression is that the head is too small — is that intentional for a super-solider being?

@JDługosz No, it's eventually going to be one of my D&D characters when I have finished the model.

@Bellerophon I take it you're not using Poser or some stock human mesh to begin with?

No. Trying to do it from scratch.

I would suggest overlaying it against another (good) figure or artist's proportion reference illustration; then you can see just where it doesn't line up.
@Bellerophon What are you making it in? How will you handle joints?

Blender and I'm going to cross that bridge when I come to it. For now I'm going to try and get the character made in its current stance.

10:04 PM
hey there @Mithrandir24601 @Bellerophon @Green

Hey @Shalvenay.

how're things going?

Pretty good. You?

OK
