I don't think always using HTTPS would be a good choice, even if it only applied to imgur links. This would increase the latency of the image download, which could have a significant impact on mobile clients, and often have no benefit. It sounds like they're essentially implementing support for linux syscalls in windows, so that linux apps can run on top of the windows kernel. this is combined with a linux fs that you can run. ubuntu user-mode non-graphical apps should run ok including things like programming languages (e.g. ruby, python, node.js) and things like editors and compilers.

the target market is web devs who use Macs at the moment
