So the bank stopped processing my payments for my vehicle, and just started stashing them in an account
Got a letter saying I'm in default and they're pissed
@MarkBuffalo Yeah the same thing happened to me
@l1thal Yeah, I try to find humor 'round here when I can. It's fairly rare. Nothing like Gaming.SE.
I went nuclear
...so I call them up, and the teller made a mistake
I got a massive refund on the way for late fees and a month of payments
@MarkBuffalo One time paypal charged the wrong card and get me in the hole aboue $250 with the bank. Once I fixed that I consulted paypal about it and they banned me.
19:04
Because I sent them an additional three payments this month to cover their mistake. Looked at my bank statement and saw 5 payments wtf!
5 car payments. Those sons of botched
So then they got into a lawsuit with someone else about how they handled payments badly, so they let me open it back up! then they found out I opened it while I was underage, so they banned it again.
SOML
@MarkBuffalo You should open a lawsuit that I can benefit from somehow too!
@DavidFreitag I was polite, but I'll be receiving a large refund because of their derperies. Wtf @ putting it in an account instead of using it to pay the loan, which I've been doing for two yearsm
@MarkBuffalo Yeah it happened to me two months in a row
19:07
Everyone makes mistakes, and they corrected it. No need to get all pissy over it
@Iszi True. Everyone is always so serious out there in the question world. You say one thing wrong and BOOM! Everyone calls you out on it and your rep goes down about 1000 points.
Adi
Adi
@DavidFreitag @kalina After you guys gave me the specs, I did some more Googling. I fully agree; 3k is indeed excessive.
First person to find the combination to get PHP wins wfplsiu.com
@Adi The build I spec'd out for @RoryAlsop was I think somewhere in the neighborhood of 1200£ IIRC
And that build is by far the most absurd beast I've worked out
@Adi I can't find the combo
Adi
Adi
@DavidFreitag To be honest, I proposed the 3k mainly because I had no clue about the prices.
19:11
@l1thal No, what I mean is you'll probably never find a question that involves getting drunk, trying to float across a river on the backs of some hookers, and waking up with a tattoo, around here.
@Adi Well TBH the 1200£ box of @Rory's would be about that much if you got it prebuilt (ie from dell or the like, which BTW is a terrible idea)
Adi
Adi
@MarkBuffalo :(
This guy now is the most famous Finnish person alive
53
Q: So I was out drinking last night...how do I remove a tattoo?

Raven DreamerGeralt got into a bit of fun with the Blue Stripes last night. After getting rip-roaringly drunk, the Witcher thought it might be good to see if it was possible to float across the river on the bums of four prostitutes. It wasn't. The Witcher woke without equipment and a new tattoo on his neck. ...

^ Still my all-time favorite SE question.
@Adi yeah but now you know what you're willing to spend. I used to be poor, so getting the best bang for my buck hardwarewise is something I really enjoy doing. Even now.
You could get a nice 32gb ram rig with m2 ssds, two amazing cards in sli, a nice modular power supply to match, a good mobo, and a good processor. For maybe 1200 euros or less
@Adi Lets Roll > No > No > Web App > No > Startup > No > No > I Don't Care > Yes > Yes
19:16
Yep, easily 1200 euros, depending on the cost of parts in finland.
Adi
Adi
@l1thal YOU WIN!
You're official Administrator of Space
@l1thal damn
YES! I always wanted that position. Thank you, sir.
Adi
Adi
@l1thal Have you used Confluence before?
It has a role called "Space Admin"
@Adi I've used things similar to it.
19:18
Wait
@Adi Is that thing legit?
Lethal that's not working for me
I didn't get php.
@MarkBuffalo You must've clicked something wrong. I did it like 10 times.
Adi
Adi
@MarkBuffalo I've just Googled this shit after you and @RоryMcCune mentioned it. What the fuck is this?!
Looks like a joke
Let's see
Adi
Adi
19:19
@Iszi Aye
@Adi fast hard drive for the wins
@Adi That's the fastest SSD in the world
An M.2 drive uses PCIe lanes as well as SATA for a massive bandwidth
@Adi not linus?
Yeah I want an m2
Might use my bonus check to upgrade
Adi
Adi
@DavidFreitag Seems to be cheap
19:22
@Adi They are no more expensive than regular SSDs
It's amazing dude.
You'll need a motherboard capable of supporting it
And if you don't have an M.2 slot, they make PCIe adapter cards
@MarkBuffalo Not true
(just an example)
@DavidFreitag what happens if your motherboards pcie slots are taken up by graphics cards?
@MarkBuffalo Why on earth do you have more than one GPU?
Adi
Adi
@MarkBuffalo In that case...
19:23
That's what I'm getting at
Adi
Adi
Your statement is still false
1 min ago, by Mark Buffalo
You'll need a motherboard capable of supporting it
@DavidFreitag sli
@MarkBuffalo Is not worth it
Adi
Adi
@DavidFreitag Is it so?
@Adi Depends on what you're doing
19:24
@Adi I'm typing fast and making mistakes. But what I'm trying to get at is this: you'll need space if going sli
Adi
Adi
@MarkBuffalo WHOA!
But really no, it's not. You're better off getting an FPGA PCIe for extreme hashing, and you're better off with one single better card for gaming/modeling
@Adi Do you want a 4k resolution monitor?
Or are you happy with 1080p?
SLI is just going to put a huge strain on your PSU
@MarkBuffalo You don't need two cards for 4K stop being stupid
Adi
Adi
@DavidFreitag All I want is to play Insurgency and Generals Zero Hour without them being slow
19:25
@DavidFreitag stop being stupid. You want SLI for good performance in intensive games.
With 4k
Adi
Adi
That's all I really want from my PC
I get shit fps at 4k
Love the comments here...

> So does Hydraulic Press beat paper or paper beats Hydraulic Press?

>> But can the hydraulic press beat Spock?
@Adi Yeah you definitely don't need 4K
Adi
Adi
Oh, and play 1080p videos
19:25
@Adi what resolution?
@MarkBuffalo What card you got?
If it's AMD GTFO
If it's not a 980 or 980TI GTFO
Adi
Adi
@MarkBuffalo I don't care. One that looks nice
@Iszi :D
@Adi It's going to depend on what display you have (or are going to buy)
@Adi Need to look up RPS 101 to see if the press is covered.
For videos, 4k netfix and bluray, one run of the mill card is enough
19:27
@MarkBuffalo WHAT CARD DO YOU HAVE
For 4k gaming, SLI is not required, but will give you an extra bunch of fps.
Adi
Adi
@DavidFreitag I have a 27" Samsung display
It depends on how much you want to spend... David is right, you don't need it... but you might want it.
@Adi I can, with some certainty, guarantee it's a 1080p display
Adi
Adi
No no, not Samsung. Shit I don't remember. Something from South Korea
It was cheap. It had IPS or whatever that is
19:28
@Adi do not listen to @MarkBuffalo, SLI is completely idiotic.
Adi
Adi
When you look from the side, it doesn't look shitty
@Adi Upstar?
Hm. Haven't found Hydraulic Press in RPS 101 but I came across Cup about halfway through. Wonder if I'll come across Two Girls - and how does that match-up go?
@Adi Probably an LED display
So IPS monitor then
Adi
Adi
19:29
@DavidFreitag Of course I won't listen to him. :D
@DavidFreitag I trust you 100%
@DavidFreitag If you do some heavy-duty password cracking, you will want to put several GPU in each machine.
Adi
Adi
@Iszi He crushes a blender in one video
@MarkBuffalo my 980Ti will happily drive 3 4k monitors
@Adi Do you have any size concerns? (ie do you prefer a smaller case or a monster tower like I chose for @Rory)
Adi
Adi
> Will the blend press or will the press blend?
19:30
@ThomasPornin No, you want some heavy duty FPGAs
I have an AMD 390x
Works fine xP
R9
Adi
Adi
@DavidFreitag I don't think size matters. It's how you use it with the other components
@Iszi 2 girls 1 hydraulic press? Wow
@Adi Well I didn't know if you're in a small apartment with space restrictions. In general smaller components are more expensive and aren't as good as their larger counterparts (thermal issues, less performance in general, etc)
Adi
Adi
19:31
@DavidFreitag My office room at home is mostly empty, so doesn't really matter so much
@RoryAlsop not for gaming it won't
@DavidFreitag Not necessarily. If you target an algorithm that maps well to the GPU capabilities (say, PBKDF2 with SHA-1 or SHA-256), then GPU will give you more password hashes per dollar (both for hardware cost, and for power consumption).
4k x 3 for gaming? I'm not buying it.
For bcrypt, of course, go for FPGA.
@ThomasPornin That's true, and it will be a ton easier to implement (implementation is already done for GPU)
19:32
@MarkBuffalo It drives 2 of them wonderfully for gaming. I play Black Ops, Fallout 4,
@Adi But will a hydraulic press blend?
Portal 2, Elite Dangerous
@RoryAlsop you have two monitors, 4k each, running that?
@MarkBuffalo Do you have any idea what you are talking about?
@MarkBuffalo yup
is lovely :-)
19:32
@RoryAlsop Just one?
Just one card?
David really does know what he is talking about when he specs gaming rigs
@MarkBuffalo just one
980Ti
@RoryAlsop No 2 girls, and no hydraulic press in RPS 101.
@Iszi lol
I'm convinced @MarkBuffalo has no clue what he's talking about since he hasn't even told me what GPU he's using.
@DavidFreitag gtx 760
19:33
@MarkBuffalo specifically, I have the EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti GPU
@MarkBuffalo LOLOLOLOL There's your problem!
That's two years old!
@DavidFreitag No shit
@RoryAlsop oh wait....
@MarkBuffalo A 980TI is better than three 760s in SLI
Low graphic intensive games
Try it on the new battlefront?
Are you running full detail too? And is it even smooth?
@MarkBuffalo BLOps is reasonably intensive, as is Elite Dangerous. And I have all my games on whatever the highest res, effects, detail etc
completely smooth
19:35
Well, I didn't know the people behind RPS 101 also had this. Interesting.
@Iszi we did sell a few Metaltech thongs...
@Adi so here's the deal, the games you specified (Insurgency and C&C: Generals Zero Hour) are fairly old, and wouldn't actually require a beefy card
Henry has a different gravatar...
I just looked up hardware benchmarks for 4k black ops
Average of 33 fps at 4k without sli
At full detail.
You're claiming to run it at 7680x2160?
@MarkBuffalo not sure the impact of that average, but from personal experience - it rocks
19:38
@RoryAlsop Ever have any "returned" at a concert? wink, wink
@Iszi ewwww.
Are you merging two displays, as in 4k, or are you going to almost 8k?
(no - after)
Extending the horizontal resolution?
@Adi Are you more interested in overall performance, or cost? If cost isn't an issue I can build you a box that's fairly future proof for about 1500 euro
19:39
@MarkBuffalo Is that a euphemism?
@MarkBuffalo with all games that can (except driving or flying games) I use extended desktop
(Just kidding. We're in the DMZ - of course it is!)
No way anyone is getting good fps at 7680x2160 with one card
it annoys me to drive or fly with a bar up the middle so I'd want 3 screens for that (or 1)
If the 980 is that good, I'll eat shit
2
19:40
@Adi However, if all you literally want to do is play those games and watch 1080p videos and such, I can spin out a build for probably 800-1000 euro
@MarkBuffalo you should really get a 980ti
I'll go buy it right now and then eat shit
and then prepare for your new and interesting diet
@MarkBuffalo The 980TI is really that good.
I'm not buying it man lol
19:41
@MarkBuffalo it's worth it
I read a lot of reviews and most were irrelevant. I thought I'll trust Mr Friday - and it was good
proof is in the pudding
i play video games on a laptop
/cries
give it a shot - what's the worst that could happen?
@RoryAlsop Ew.
@RoryAlsop you waste a few hundred dollars?
I've been researching a build for a while. None of the games I want to play are all that playable outside of sli, even with the 980. Not at 4k. I cant stand 30-40fps.
19:43
@SEJPM it will be worth it
And the radeon m9 needs to be outperforming the 980 on nearly every benchmark
@RoryAlsop I won't say "no" to that, I was justing pointing out the worst case
Wrong model number. Let me find it
@SEJPM :-)
@MarkBuffalo samples pls?
@MarkBuffalo r9 290X?
19:44
Ya
I believe so
@MarkBuffalo I went of ATI a while back as there were too many problems
Too hard to search on this phone. And benchmarks areninaccessible here
incompatibilities, games glitching, reallllly bad fps and lag
@RoryAlsop I had this issue a while back as well. Mostly Linux issues
But that was 7 years ago
Whereas this Nvidia card outperformed all my expectations, and despite what benchmarks you may have seen, and your preconceptions - it is awesome
I'll probably leave it at that - I have it in front of me with a TED film playing in 1080p right now, along with 30 odd tabs of Chrome, a couple of word docs, and Portal paused in the left hand screen at fullscreen
19:47
@RoryAlsop it's the best card on the market
In landscape mode, 4K Surround offers up 11,520x2160.
@MarkBuffalo NV driver can barely handle that
The thing in mainly wondering about is rory running 7680x2160 and getting good fps in black ops
I know you can run three monitors in 4k
He's doing that
I get thousands of fps with NetHack
4
19:51
Anywat, SLI is worth it if you want to maximize performance. What @DavidFreitag is missing here is that the average fps is just average. All games have points where it drops down considerably. This is where your SLI becomes worth it
Especially if you want to run max detail at 4k
If you're happy with 1080, get 1 card.
@MarkBuffalo 2x 980TI should do the job
SLI is a really niche requirement...
or maybe 2x Titan X (for dat extra VRAM)
my 980TI ain't broke sweat on 1440p gaming so far
but then I don't really play AAA much
Not being able to sit near your PC without an asbestos armour might be considered as a drawback, too.
19:53
Game slowing down during explosions / occasional lag when loading large objects = you get killed before it even loads
@ThomasPornin cause it may catch on fire / heat up a lot? don't worry, this is an AMD exclusive problem
@MarkBuffalo 2x Titan X for that sweet 12GB VRAM / card

Q: Recruiter claims to have gotten my email address from Stack Overflow

Ed PlunkettI just received an email with an unsolicited job offer from somebody who claims to have found me on Stack Overflow. It was addressed to "Ed", a name I use nowhere but Stack Overflow (it's not my real name), and she says she's looking for a .NET developer, which I am. So "random spam sent to 1,00...

@SEJPM that's nuts yeah
@MarkBuffalo can't say as I've ever seen a game that recommends 980TI's in SLI to be usuable, that would be a seriously small market for purchasers
(and yes, I know I'm late to the meta SO drama party)
19:54
@RоryMcCune dual monitor 4K

Q: Preview: A minor ToS update restricting companies that scrape your profile information without your permission

Jaydlestl;dr: We’re planning to make some changes to our ToS to stop companies from scraping user profile information from multiple websites and then spamming them. The changes only restrict a specific kind of commercial use of profile data that is scraped or copied from our site without the user’s per...

@RоryMcCune most of those games let you turn the settings down
@SEJPM sure what I'm getting at is how much money will devs spend setting up a game that can be played by like 1% of the PC gaming community...
doesn't seem like a good ROI
@RоryMcCune crysis? When it first came out. You could still turn the settings down to make it playable
@RоryMcCune it's really easy for the devs to accomodate for dual monitor people
after all it's just another resolution that the driver will handle mostly for you
19:56
@SEJPM well I'm not a game dev. :) but I've seen a lot of apps that don't behave well on multi-monitor setups
But @Adi wants his games to look good. And he complained about low fps earlier. Low fps bottlenecks when loading explosions and large objects, or even when someone enters the game, can interfere with that
@RоryMcCune because they don't go full screen?
@RоryMcCune and ubisoft published their ultra textures as extra (free) DLC (R6S) and 6GB+ of VRAM are recommended for running it
@SEJPM they go full-screen on a single monitor ok, but the multi-monitor geometry throws them off especially when it changes (e.g. laptops)
so for example windows appearing "off-screen"
Also, @Adi wants video editing prowess. A Titan X might be better for that
Though not necessary
@RоryMcCune #pcmasterrace
supporting high resolutions and high end setups is a question of honor for gamedevs :P
19:59
ooookay, I'm more of a pragmatic soul, I like things that work well
and of course their work machines run such setups...
