7:01 PM
@Adnan Is it over yet?

@ScottPack don't forget that the plane will be descending most of the times it's firing ;)
@Simon you probably mean AA-10?

@TildalWave Ah, that's it.

this is AA-12 ^

Yep.

didn't find AA-10

7:10 PM
It looks pretty similar.

yup but I gave up on Google images cuz they all link to AA-12, but there was an AA-10 also
10 gauge rounds instead of 12 that's IIRC the only difference

@LucasKauffman WOB WOB I really don't like - but that Bakermat one is similar in style to some of ours

a.k.a. 3 1/2 Super Magnum ;)

@Gilles Actually, I think 25 is pretty skinny. But a cup size of MB? DAAAAAAAAA-YUM!!!

Oh dear - just googled Charizard....

7:20 PM
@RoryAlsop Haha.

why is that even a thing
is it even a thing
??
?

Of course! Pokemon was "teh shit" when I was a kid.

@RoryAlsop you never had a gameboy?

^

@RoryAlsop Haven't we been over this already? You forget so soon, old man.

7:21 PM
Not talking about the Pokemon.....
That blinking Urban Dictionary meaning...

Oh god, isn't it a sexual thingy?
Urban Dictionary is so damn creepy.

yup
I didn't want to google it while at work

Yeah, definitely not gonna do that here.

rule 34

^ this

7:23 PM
@RoryAlsop I prefer doing a Simba rather than a Charizard

@LucasKauffman gawd - hang on while I cleanse myself

What is rule 34?

@Simon If there is a thing, on the Internet there is sex of that thing

@Simon Generally accepted internet rule that states that pornography or sexually related material exists for any conceivable subject.

7:24 PM
@Simon you can test this very easily....

Oh I see.
@Iszi Haha, nice.

OMG. Binged "Rule 34 xkcd" on my phone. After the xkcd.com and Wikipedia entries, there's a Rule34.Paheal.net (NSFW) page for posts tagged XKCD.

And the domain name in the xkcd is definitely registered. Not gonna visit it though.

(And this is precisely why I didn't Google it on my work computer.)

@LucasKauffman Really don't like this kind of thing, but I am sure I would enjoy being there:

7:28 PM
@RoryAlsop Really? There's some Hardstyle there too, you know.

@Simon I enjoy gigs. Especially ones with major entertainment in the form of fire, lights, fire, dancers, fire, lasers, fire, explosives etc
even if the music isn't my thing

@RoryAlsop You'd love most of HS events too then :P

@RoryAlsop you'd love Defqon then

Big time.

@LucasKauffman <googling now>

7:30 PM
@LucasKauffman Waitwut? (Following @RoryAlsop)

ahh - you showed video of this before - lots of scantily clad dancing babes.... I can see the attraction :-)

Awww... not quite what I was hoping for.

not quite Defcon

@RoryAlsop geez that's as enjoyable to me as that crazy frog ringtone :~ we killed Atari for a reason! LOL

@RoryAlsop Yeah, I was thinking "Music festival at DEFCON?!"

7:32 PM
@Iszi Bahaha.

@Iszi Dual Core Music - he's bloody good

@RoryAlsop Wanna get rid of this answer? security.stackexchange.com/questions/3246/…

@Simon yes - thanks

Damn, that was quick.

@RoryAlsop the guy in the middle looks like Jack Daniel... is that him?

7:36 PM
@Lucas - have you seen what happens if you do a google image search for EY? NSFW!!!!
@TildalWave yup

All this NSFW stuff, I'm a curious man!
But I also like my job.

@RoryAlsop Awww, missed it. Share? And why have we never closed that question in the first place?

@Iszi was just nonsense spam

@Iszi Basically it was: "Yes auhdahjsa hjadhjsahj dahsdajhdahdsa"

and if 5 people vote to close it can happen :-)

7:37 PM
Literally.

@RoryAlsop Translation: @RoryAlsop is being a lazy arse.

@Simon simplest for those is just to flag as spam - it destroys them quickly, and spam flags are highly prioritised
@Iszi hahahahaha
cutting back on 'those unfair mod powers'

@RoryAlsop They're only unfair 'cause I don't have 'em. ;-P

@RoryAlsop Good because they're nothing else than pollution.

@RoryAlsop yes it has been a recent mockery and I have also brought this under the attention so it certainly is shown, with illustration at the next FSO Advisory team meeting.

7:43 PM
@LucasKauffman hahahahahaha
excellent

I do like the new close process, but I kinda don't like that we don't have a RTFFAQ option anymore. 'Cause some cases really just call for that.

@LucasKauffman 0:38 is my ringtone: youtube.com/watch?v=tCrBEfbgkyo

For that matter, what happened to our FAQ? You know, the one where it said "this stuff is on topic, this stuff isn't" etc.?

@Simon I'd love to watch it, problem is my hotel only allows for 100 MB/24 hours and then I need to go down stairs to get a new voucher

@LucasKauffman Oh yeah, no problem.
I'll show you later.

7:48 PM
@Iszi agreed, but VTC on anything close to that and then comment using [FAQ] and [Ask] links ;) the FAQ link now links to "Help center" since the change tho

Ah, found it. Yeah, I think we still need a general close reason that reads something like the old (approx.) "Questions on this site should be about protecting assets from threats and vulnerabilities as defined in the FAQ".
@TildalWave It really threw me off that I couldn't find the "This site is about..." blurb where it used to be. This is the page I was looking for, though:

@Iszi the [Ask] link ("How To Ask") usually works for me, it links here: security.stackexchange.com/questions/how-to-ask

What, no onebox for help topics?

@Iszi I'm also waiting for updates for that

@TildalWave Again, a very generic page. When saying "off topic" I want to be able to point them directly to what's on-topic.

7:51 PM
@Iszi Yes, that's what I said ^^ ;) :P

I actually don't like how generic the help section of the site is becoming. It's taking more and more clicks and link depth to get people to the sections that are meant to be site-specific.

dunno maybe they will add some new shorthand links, like [on-topic], [off-topic], [reopen] ...

Time to go play in the traffic.

@TildalWave Still, I like how it used to be when I click the FAQ I get the site's definition put right up in front. Additionally, all of the relevant material one needed to learn the basics of this site and its operations was on one page. Instead, we now have a canned help section with no definition on the main page and over a dozen separate topics that need to be read in order to understand the site.
If I was a new user, I'd probably either just walk away or try learning the hard way (and, consequently, the way most likely to piss off veterans) before digging through twenty-some different articles to figure it all out.

awwww maaaan, judging from the starwall it looks like I missed a good round of yo momma.
and a collective thanks to all those wellwishers, and snarky comments...

8:05 PM
@AviD Wait, did you just complain about not being around to hear all the noise?
@AviD Wellwishers what? I must have missed something.

@Iszi heh, its all about the SNR ratio, babay.

@copy Yes it's over. Yes it is.

@AviD Is that yours?

is why I've not been around as of late, and why I've been earning some targeted snark...
@Adnan nah, I just grabbed one of the street.
picked one up in the hospital, and ran for it!

8:07 PM
@AviD - congrats dude!

@AviD Wait... you have offspring? And by that message, I presume you mean five offspring now? We're all doomed.

that's a wee cutie

@AviD He's so adorable!!

@RoryAlsop thanks! (x2... ;-) )

@Iszi He's just trying to stay ahead of me

8:08 PM
@Iszi heh, I assumed you knew that.

All those Tiggers in one place are bound to bounce Earth off its axis or something.
2

@Adnan thanks :-) ("she" though...)

@Iszi Quick de-synch those mini-Tiggers

@Iszi hahaha

@AviD So - all well?

8:09 PM
@AviD Well, that's awkward.

@RoryAlsop sshhh, they'll find out that I'm really older than you... age has nothing to do with it. ;-)

@RoryAlsop Wow. That site is weird.

@Adnan nah, how could you tell?

@ScottPack erm - yeah

@ScottPack Rotten?

8:09 PM
@RoryAlsop yup, everyone all bouncin around again.

@AviD Indeed

@Adnan urbandictionary

@Adnan besides, we figured we'd wait 5-6 years, then let her decide.

@ScottPack I actually learned many words from it.

@AviD Seriously? You had another? What the fuck? Is that why you moved?

8:10 PM
@ScottPack lol

@AviD I don't know how to respond to that

@AviD excellent! Is Mazal Tov the correct phrase for this sort of thing?

I'm trying to beat Steve Martin
@RoryAlsop yup!

@AviD I know you like to hump and all that (being a tiger) but you can put a condom around your tail :P also congratz :)

@AviD Mazal Tov!

8:12 PM
@LucasKauffman how apt.

@AviD This evening I'll raise something containing gin to the health of your wife and daughter.

@ScottPack good man!

@ScottPack That spelling feels off.

@Iszi Being from Florida you would know much better than I.

@AviD Is there a vowel between Mem and Zayin?

8:14 PM
@ScottPack Dunno why you say that, but M-W says it should be "mazel tov".

@AviD Or Lamedh for that matter

@Adnan not in hebrew, there are no vowels. there is letter-punctuation (is there a name for that?) which results in sounding like a long "a" sound.

@AviD Oh, just like movements in Arabic.

I think we need a Jew ruling on this one.
2

@Iszi thats wrong, the correct pronunciation is in fact "mazal tov". "Mazel" is the yiddish pronounciation.

8:15 PM
Google says this is the Hebrew spelling: מזל טוב

@Adnan yes, exactly.

@AviD Damn it! Was just about to say that!
I wanted one on Iszi

So it's a transliteration problem. Suck it @Iszi.

@ScottPack I think that sounds racist, but I'm not sure.

@AviD FLAG IT

8:17 PM
@Iszi So much fail in that message!

@AviD If anything it would be, at worst, specist.

@LucasKauffman I wish I could flag this salon.com/2013/06/24/…

@Adnan If there is any, it's on Google's part. I'm just the messenger.

Why do we live in a world where this is necessary?

@AviD =D

@ManishEarth Never seen other architectures before, have you?

There you go - a congratulatory Gin and Tonic
Made from Scottish gin
and not Infosec Geeky at all

Some bastard named the variable for a shared secret "salt" and I've spent days trying to find where it was used as a salt. Grrr.

@ManishEarth It is a variant of "640 kB ought to be enough for everyone"

@RoryAlsop Qualys scanners?

8:18 PM
together with the Security+ cert kit!

@JeffFerland Oh, I know that. Shouldn't the programming language be masking the architecture?

@RoryAlsop Scottish malt gin?

@ScottPack Oh yes indeedy. Almost as good as Caorunn gin

@ManishEarth C never really has all that much.

@AviD What the actual f...

8:19 PM
@ManishEarth Programming languages are ugly liars; they keep calling "integers" that which are merely "modular integers"

@RoryAlsop I'm going to assume it's definitely not a London dry. Probably more sweet?

@AviD DAFUQ? I'm not gonna follow all those links - why was the six-year-old transgendered in the first place? I certainly hope it was medically necessary!

@AviD I read that as "kilt" (see @Adnan's earlier messages)

Security+ was lying spare at work so I thought I'd read it. It's been sitting there ever since

(except Common Lisp an Python)

8:19 PM
@LucasKauffman yup - freebie cup from Infosec Europe

@ManishEarth Yeah. Next week you'll catch a gimps of my genitals.
I'll post a photo of me in my new kilt

@RoryAlsop oo looks like that cup made the registration fee worthwhile!

scared

@Iszi Transgendered does not imply post-op.

@ManishEarth Why? They're majestic.

8:20 PM
@ScottPack Yeah, there's another debate I don't want to go into. Though, wouldn't Transvestite be more accurate?

@AviD High quality plastic double walled cup with lid and straw. Looks very cheap, but is amazing. The only cup of mine the kids steal more is the paired water bottles bicycles.SE gave me
@Adnan You are the Bad Piper (AICMFP)

@RoryAlsop Wait... Bicycles has water bottles? WANT!

@ScottPack yeah... @Iszi saw it elsewhere with more background - he had two sisters (triplets) and as a 4 year old (or something) said something stupid like "I'm a girl" - as all little kids do - and the parents were apparently too rainbowed to actually handle it like parents.

@Iszi Transvestites are people who dress up like members of the opposite sex. Transgendered are people who identify as members of. That is having boy parts but feeling more like a lady.

dont get me wrong - when you grow up, you're free to decide to live any way you like - but those parents are idiots.

Q: Bicycles Stack Exchange swag for top users

Anna Lear Update We mailed out the packages last week, but unfortunately our warehouse only included one water bottle instead of two. They'll send out the 2nd bottle in a separate package ASAP. As a thank you for being awesome, if you are on page 1 or page 2 of … http://bicycles.stackexchange....

@RoryAlsop oo, want those.
@ScottPack kinda like @Adnan....

I'd love to have a security.SE SIP bottle
3

@ScottPack Hrm. Maybe we need a third term for a person whose body does not match the gender with which they most identify and express themselves.

@Iszi But we're not top members.
I'm not even a member

8:23 PM
@Iszi thats transgendered, apparently...

@Iszi That's generally a pretty good descriptor of transgendered.

@ManishEarth still waiting for mine!

@LucasKauffman That's a good one.
Also, I hate you!

@LucasKauffman Unfortunately it seems like specific swag is being phased out - and as Manish pointed out, it will be generic SE swag

@RoryAlsop So. Now we're going to have to enjoy both Scotch and gin. Drat.

8:24 PM
@Adnan maybe if we get jobs at SEI, we can get our pick of the swag....

@AviD not yet manufactured yet afaict

@AviD I was wondering if it was cheeky to ask for 3?

@ScottPack Or does post-op take you from Transgendered to Transexual?

:-)

@RoryAlsop I don't want generic SE swag, that's too mainstream D:

8:24 PM
That's lame. I don't want to advertise SEI. I want to advertise the sites I care about.

@ScottPack Yep.

@ScottPack Like xnxx

@Iszi Indeed.

@ScottPack and be able to take a dump on some others!

community swag production

8:24 PM
@RoryAlsop lol, isnt that the Israeli line?

@RoryAlsop Well, I figured that much. But I want one for non-top members! They really need to open up an SE store where we could buy all this swag. They used to have one, but it didn't have all the cool little goodies like the water bottles and flashlights and stuff.

@Adnan hahahaha - is it bad that I have that open on the monitor on the left....

"It's free, I'll take two!"

If I wear my mexican-hat Physics.SE t shirt, a lot more people will ask me what it's about and eventually join the site

I have several StackExchange t-shirts, but I refuse to use them for anything except undershirts. I will, however, wear my Sec.SE shirt out to conferences and the like.

8:25 PM
@Iszi They had one

@ScottPack That's rather confusing, given that the roots are roughly synonymous.

@ManishEarth it is a good logo

@RoryAlsop Good man Rory

@ManishEarth That's what I just said.

@Iszi meh

8:25 PM
ah

@RoryAlsop Are you checking it for any XSS?

Q: IT Security Stack Exchange Top User Swag

Rebecca ChernoffAs a thank you for being awesome, if you have at least 1,000 reputation and are on page 1 or page 2 of … http://security.stackexchange.com/users?tab=reputation&filter=all … we'll be sending you a little care package shortly: IT Security Stack Exchange t-shirt in your size IT Security Stack Ex...

@Manish - unfortunately I am only on page 4 for users on Physics

:(
@RoryAlsop Oh, that happened a year ago
They only do it once

@ManishEarth well, and I'm not a physicist. Loved it at school and stayed an extra year mostly just doing physics and maths, but that was mostly for the lasers - my answers on there are on the simple stuff
@Adnan erm....does penetration testing count?

8:27 PM
@RoryAlsop Isn't that the only one that counts?

@RoryAlsop Careful. You saw what happened to @AviD.

@RoryAlsop I know. I got my tshirt when mine were quite basic too

@Adnan Gotta be the first time I've seen "isn't" typoed as "is in" - you must be one of those people who types like you talk.

I want a security.SE tshirt!
where can I buy one :( ?

@LucasKauffman participate in the next election

8:28 PM
@LucasKauffman I might be willing to sell you mine. IF the price is right....

@Iszi Racist!

@ManishEarth At best that'll get him an SEI shirt

@ScottPack nah

@ManishEarth Nah, I think that just gets you generic SE - pretty sure that's how I got mine.

They still haven't sent out t-shirts from the SF election.

8:29 PM
@LucasKauffman I'm making one.. shhh!

How used can you cope with - I have had one that has come gigging with me. And another one which I have lectured in.

@RoryAlsop Ew

@RoryAlsop If it has Essence de Rory in it I might even pay more ._.
@AviD oh my

hey, I'm curious - what exactly do community managers do? Besides managing the elections and giving out swag, I mean.

@AviD give out hugs? (I'm missing Aarthi already)
2

8:30 PM
@Lucas Bitch why are you ignoring me?

@RoryAlsop lol
why missing? Did she leave SEI?

OMG. It looks like a I put in is actually getting implemented!
3
A: Allow the author to delete their own question after closure, if other rules permit it

Jarrod DixonThis will be pushed out in the next build, > rev 2013.7.8.1192.

@Adnan oh I'd love one of those

@AviD Yeah - I think it was only a fixed term contract. Luckily she is still chatty on twitter and google+

@RoryAlsop awww
where she at now?

8:31 PM
@RoryAlsop Shame.

and what did she actually do??
there are so many of them now, I imagine they're pretty darn important.

@AviD They manage communities

@LucasKauffman oohhhhhh, NOW its all clear. Prick.
but what does that actually mean?

@Iszi @ScottPack

@AviD not sure -was off being a creative I think

8:33 PM
I'm not feeling particularly managed here. Do we need to get one more involved?

@ManishEarth where?
@ManishEarth LINK MEH

@LucasKauffman Secret form I was linked to

@ManishEarth do you have crypto cat?

nope
new comp

@AviD I think Aarthi's role included encouraging PR type thinking and clicking yes on all the swag requests I sent
and hugs
@LucasKauffman hahaha - I like what you did there

8:35 PM
Aarthi's role involved a lot of mod-managing

Which makes sense. Have you seen some of those mods?

@ManishEarth 'encouraging' :-)
@ScottPack what you talkin' 'bout Willis?

@ManishEarth yeah, I think I saw that, kind of a 2nd level support for mods.

damnit how can we else perform very secretive conversations which will end in me begging you to order me a shirt in sec.SE or black SE L size, if they are american size or XL if they are european

but what else do CMs bring to a site?

8:36 PM
@AviD one mo, typing

and does anyone even know if we have anyone assigned to us?

@AviD Who do you see on your meta the most?

@ManishEarth hang on.....

@ManishEarth some dude named "Community"....

@LucasKauffman Tubby.

8:37 PM
@AviD I thought it was Tildal...

Evenin' All

@RoryMcCune awright - meant to say. Should do a beer. Wife is away to her mums to recuperate. And I palmed the kids off too.

@AviD that might be the reason why they had to phase out the job

@RoryAlsop actually no, I'm far too hot!

@RoryMcCune hello there!

8:37 PM
@RoryAlsop yeah, him too... is @TildalWave secretly our community manager?

since when is it this hot in Scotland at this time!

@LucasKauffman not being phased out, they're hiring like 3 more

@RoryMcCune I know you are ;D

@RoryMcCune heading home at 7pm and the temperature was 27 degrees - it just is not healthy

8:38 PM
@LucasKauffman phase out? hell no! there are like 2 dozen CMs now...

especially not in a suit

@RoryAlsop @AviD Each comm team member has a list of sites that they keep an eye on (they mostly stay on metas). Usually silent, but they may step in now and then. Aside from that, they check mod messages and handle stuff like burninate-requests, revision deletion, vote invalidation, etc. They (mainly Shog) have been quite helpful on Physics. I think they also have to write reports and all.

@ManishEarth oh - I thought Shog was a dev

@RoryAlsop still quite a bit cooler than here.... :-(

@AviD If I was in Israel in the summer I would die
literally

8:38 PM
@RoryAlsop beers sound like a good plan, what days would work? I'm testing from home all this week so all good to me :)
@LucasKauffman lol

@RoryAlsop nono. Comm team: Shog9, Anna Lear, Tim Post, Grace Note, Robert Cartaino. And Jaydles, sort of

@RoryAlsop A/C A/C A/C A/C A/C A/C A/C A/C A/C A/C

@RoryMcCune I have to go to London Thurs eve for a day, so before then
@AviD we don't do AC here - never been a need for it. When you want to cool down you open the window.

@RoryAlsop know the feeling got a client who is based on an airport, we have to walk 15 miniutes in the sun from the security office to the main building, really makes for good sweaty meetings :p

BTW has anyone come across a DNS/ICMP tunnelling client written in PowerShell, bit of a longshot I know...

8:40 PM
@RoryMcCune no but would be very interesting and shouldn't be too hard to do considering it's all just C#

@RoryAlsop ah, so thats why youre suffereing from the 27C. no AC...

@AviD well, and the suit

@RoryAlsop cool, tomorrow then?

@Adnan mmmm I might do that for BruCon

here I'm fine with the odd 37C, unless I have to go outside...

8:42 PM
@RoryMcCune works for me. Shall I bring beers to yours? you to mine? or both of us to the cricket club?

@LucasKauffman yeah I have a kiosk test at the moment no ability to get to the web no clipboard no mapped drives, but they forgot to lock down powershell and it allows DNS queries :)

@AviD I honeymooned in Greece and it was 44. But the islands were self-combusting, and I had to wear shorts and sit in the sea

I'm fair convinced that 20-22C is my temperature ideal

@ScottPack yep

And slightly overcast.

8:42 PM
@RoryMcCune you coming down to Ghent this year?

@RoryAlsop well, they dont really wear clothes there, do they?
@ScottPack universal.

Quick query over on TL about our top canonical answer as to signing messages, whether to hash/encrypt, hash then encrypt, etc. - am sorting through @ThomasP's posts, but does anyone know which would be best?
@AviD exactly
honeymoon was awesome!

@RoryAlsop I'll wander in your direction if that works for you :) or could do Cricket club? Missus has a huge test on at the mo' so she'll prob. be working on that..

@RoryAlsop that is a bit of a blatant combination of messages there....

@Scott - you are a Scot aren't you? Were you celebrating Andy's win yesterday?

8:44 PM
@LucasKauffman is gonna ask for pics...

@AviD thankyou thankyou

@RoryAlsop Como?

@LucasKauffman possibly although it's looking a bit unlikely at the moment, we're pretty busy and kinda hoping to move house around then so hesitant to book anything....

@ScottPack Andy Murray - won a big tennis thing

@RoryAlsop Whatever.

8:45 PM
@RoryAlsop dont specifically remember one about signing. I remember regarding hmac though

@RoryMcCune I'll order a community promotion pack, I'll just add a tshirt for you

@AviD hehe you managed to catch some sleep?

@TildalWave lil bit. very little bit.

@TildalWave he'll have practice by now

@AviD I can't even imagine the havoc that having that many children must cause!

8:51 PM
@RoryMcCune its fun! its just like on telletubbies.
@RoryAlsop you tend to forget...
I can do fine with the no sleeping, at least for a while.
It's the sleeping in 20 minute increments that really get to me...

@AviD of course the way to dothis is delegate as much as you can to your eldest, because kids love looking after smaller kids and babies
win win

@RoryAlsop truth.
and finding the balance in that...
else you find your 4 year old trying to balance on the baby's head.

@AviD we have friends who ask if our two eldest can come and stay...so they can help them look after their toddlers
@AviD yerr, that is true

@RoryAlsop sweet. babysitting is a good gig...

@AviD that then leaves us some time with our youngest, which is good, as she probably lost out on the attention deal

8:55 PM
another good thing is you get to see all the latest cartoons without looking suspicious :)

@RoryAlsop yeah, its important to still find time for each one...
wish I had a tardis...

haha, I meant to give each one attention...

@LucasKauffman on the DNS tunnel thing, I actually think it should be pretty easy in Powershell V3, there's a nice Cmdlet for resolving DNS names that takes different record types so that handles the retrieving end and then the sending bit is just encoding data and making requests..

@AviD there must be that half an hour of late evenings that the house goes strangely quiet even with 5 of them?
