@forest @Jis12yearsold. your two avas are... confusing still. Is that image CC? Could we maybe add a border around each for easy visible reference? :D
@Warlock Yes, UNFORTUNATELY some people ruin things for everyone by trolling and other means so there may be smaller issues
@Warlock uh, you trust google more than SE? :D
Just use the local log in. I'd recommend avoiding disposable email services but there's not much wrong with using a unique email from some provider IMO

3:32 AM
@JourneymanGeek Actually not.

@JourneymanGeek That makes sense. I'll do it. Thanks for the tips!

(I think forest might disagree with the not using a disposable email but there's been instances where accounts have been hijacked for trolling)

1 hour later…
5:50 AM
Right Evan. I'm expecting the next thing you say to be about information security. Bye!
I mean, its fine to discuss other things but I'm not seeing anything else either.
@forest that looks reasonably shiny.
Though - I do wonder what sort of scenarios that's for - I mean I get what it does, but not what the intended use is

A: CEH & Comptia Pentest+

Lian Security GroupObviously, CEH is much more popular. as mentioned above, they have a huge overlap with each other. Again, CEH is more advanced. I suggest taking the course even though you can not effort class. (personally don't like pentest+)

I know this should be flagged as something, I'm just not sure what to flag it as.
Some people could easily find it "rude or abusive", no?

@JourneymanGeek It wasn't. It was a diatribe on meta. I have suspended him on this site.

@RoryAlsop Main meta, or did he do one on yours too?

infosec meta

I'm aware of the former, that's why I stuck my head in
Ah!
@nobody NAA? Spam spam spam spam SPAAAAAAMMMM!

thanks for spam flags geek

8:51 AM
@RoryAlsop Why would I pass up free spam flags :D

I wish I was 10K+

diatribes are always interesting

@nobody it gives a few useful things (I always get confused on sites where I'm not 10k when I try and do some basic moderating) but it isn't that exciting
@nobody not especially - no explanation as to why he thought it was appropriate on a security site rather than a politics site...

@RoryAlsop I'll trust MechMK1 this time. He told me the deleted stuff has a lot of funny shit

8:54 AM
@nobody thanks @MechMK1 :-)
@nobody one of the things you will see at 10k is the amount of stuff that gets deleted really quickly by the community. Like, nonsense, crazy rants, spam etc

Yeah like posts by people high on coke, asking how they could flood the internet with electricity.
Read something about that in the old chat logs, but couldn't view the post itself because it was deleted

9:31 AM
@nobody wasn't that a short lived meme?
flooding with electricity?
@nobody We usually get the really paranoid ones
yanno "My cat hacked my cellphone"

@JourneymanGeek Yeah, the time when Benoit, Tom and all were here
iirc that meme derived from a question on some other another SE site

9:55 AM
@daya No, it was on Sec.SE
Actually, found a screenshot of it

@JourneymanGeek a border?

@Jis12yearsold. one sec

Anonymous
Whether we like Evan or not I urge everyone who can to donate to that fund. Or any fund that helps Palestinians :)

i.stack.imgur.com/WrtbX.png pardon my terrible image editing skillz
I had to switch mice and I'm still getting used to the new one

Anonymous
Ah, I see. You think this border will be visible even at such a small size?

Well, still better than white on white

Anonymous
10:30 AM
Sure, I can change it I guess, if you think it will make it easier to read.

Anonymous
Or distinguish.

It would be appreciated.

Anonymous
Drat, someone still hasn't answered forests question.

Anonymous
Yay. Both important petitions got 100,000+ signs.

Which means they'll be "considered" for parliamentary debate.

Oh look at that - Biden considering removing the block of a ceasefire.

What a kind hearted soul...

Anonymous
Too bad he already sold Israel nearly a billion dollars worth of rockets hey

@RoryAlsop Not sure what for, but you're most welcome!

Anonymous
@forest Yeah that always stood out to me. Even if I cannot understand them entirely.

@Jis12yearsold. At first I thought it was ironic, but it's actually high quality

Anonymous
10:48 AM
@MechMK1 What was ironic? :D

When someone says "high-quality answers" I usually assume it's the opposite

Anonymous
Oh :D

Source: Dude trust me

Anonymous
Hahahahahaha.

Anonymous
To be fair, 90% of the internet is people saying: "dude trust me".

Anonymous
10:56 AM
Then when he finally links his source, guess what the source says?

Anonymous
"dude trust me".

Anonymous
And his source? The same thing...

Anonymous
I'm convinced 90% of the worlds words come entirely from the top 10% of people in some way or another...

@nobody Ah, I didn't knew that before, but we used to use it a lot here

@Jis12yearsold. No they don't, everyone's words are their own. Trust me :D

Anonymous
11:01 AM
@nobody Hahahahahahahahhaha :D

@Jis12yearsold. I've actually won a few arguments that way

Anonymous
@MechMK1 You... You won an argument? On the internet? No way...

"Do you want an enlightening discussion or just a flamewar shitshow?" - "Let's try the enlightening discussion." - "Okay. In the source you linked, do you see any citations?" - "Yeah, they cite from [that blog]." - "And did you look where they got their info from?" - "...it doesn't say." - "So the information is just as trustworthy as the guy saying he made it up." - "Huh...yeah, I guess so"

Anonymous
Hah :D

In all honesty, I think conversation culture is declining instead of improving, simply because you can pick and choose your peers so easily.

11:04 AM
@MechMK1 Oh I thought you meant something like:
Guy: "Eh, what's your source for that?"
MechMK1: "Dude, I'm a hacker, I know!!!"
Guy: "hmm... Makes sense"

Anonymous
Hahahahah :D

"My source is the source code of the application"

Customer: "So now, please click on the link I placed in the bookmarks and--"
Me: "Yeah, I'm already logged in as admin"
Customer: "Wow, that was fast."
Me: "I mean, gaining access to stuff is literally my job"

Nothing quite like an innuendo on a Tuesday lunch time.

You just gave me a good idea...

Anonymous
later, im outta here :)

(kidding)

I think the funniest innuendo was in Borderlands the Pre-Sequel, when Moxie and Mr. Torgue were having an argument, and Mr. Torgue says he could be just as good as an announcer as Moxie
Then he says something about explosions and such, and Moxie asks "Where is the innuendo?" and Mr. Torgue just yells "Blowjob!" as loud as possible

Anonymous
lol

Man, Borderlands was much funnier before everyone was woke

11:11 AM
lol

Like, I loved the idea of a planet that was so hopeless it just drove people insane, and they just laughed at each other getting murdered in hilarious ways.

@MechMK1 Are you talking about earth?

But then everybody became gay, Moxie had to become the strong female lead who don't need no man mmm--hmmm!!
@nobody Yes

Anonymous
Isn't that just basically what happened in Jonestown?

Anonymous
Or as nobody said, Earth in general...

11:13 AM
Here we don't get guns from vending machines
Which would honestly be pretty cool
The first borderlands will always be my favourite
They took themselves too seriously and not seriously enough at the same time in Borderlands 2 and onwards
Like, the humor in borderlands 2 is so forced at times

Anonymous
I never played those games too much.

I know humor is subjective, but "robot makes dubstep noises for the 20th time" is not funny in my opinion

Anonymous
I never played single player games too much in general, I mean, I think it had a multiplayer but I didn't play that either.

Borderlands is coop, which is the only reason I ever played it

Anonymous
Oh co-op, right.

Anonymous
11:17 AM
See, didn't even know that.

Do you want to know a good example of how the series declined?

Anonymous
Yeah, sure :D

lol
@MechMK1 they also ran out of ideas
and it became MORE GUNS MORRREE GUNNSSSS

@JourneymanGeek I love when they say "We have 9 bazillion different guns!" and then everyone uses like the same 30 variants of the same legendary gun, because it's the best for that character

@MechMK1 More or less
and the twins were rather... uh...
Villans by numbers.

11:24 AM
Like, even if you just start to play, you quickly find a green gun that you like, then a blue one and then a purple one
Sooner or later you wouldn't even look at anything less than blue

or even pick it up to sell

Yeah, because it just wasn't worth anything
Which is why I like the idea of Gunfire Reborn a lot: Gun viability is tied to the level you find it in. the later in the game you find a gun, the stronger it will be
Any gun you pick up in the last few levels will be insanely strong
And that's really the downside of Borderlands' "Lootsplosions" as they call them: The overwhelming majority of it is just trash you will never ever use
What good are 9 bazillion guns if 99% of them are never going to be used?

Anonymous
Ask that to America...

Anonymous
Oh wait, they do use them.

Anonymous
:) Sell them too...

11:28 AM
I mean, that's how AR-15s work basically :D
But as I said before, I think Dr. Tannis is a perfect indicator of how Borderlands 2 declined

Much like her mental health?

In Borderlands 1, she arrived as a scientist on Pandora, and you first "meet" her through audio recordings she left all over Pandora

Actually, how they handled death too
Roland dying was... emotional. Lilith... uh...

@JourneymanGeek What made roland's death so weird was the New-U system
Like, I get it's a gameplay thing, but come on...

@MechMK1 Hyperion owns it
So he literally turned it off just so he could kill them
ONLY, if your char died...
New U time...

11:31 AM
@JourneymanGeek That's such a forced explanation

But I digress
My point is, Tannis started out as a "normal" person. She felt alienated by the conditions people lived in, saying that most of the inhabitants of the planet had the mental capacity of children
Later in the story, most of her crew dies and she is the only one who survived
And when you meet her, she is still completely pissed off at the situation she was in
And then she slowly becomes obsessed with the Vault (the McGuffin you chase)
Whereas in Borderlands 2 she is just "Random statements make me sound interesting"
No character to her at all, just "Look I glued a chair to the ceiling"
It's a good example of Flanderization

In the third, she went full mental and wanted typhon deleons babies

That's just so stupid. I would have preferred Borderlands to remain a "grimdark commedy"
As in "everything is so horrible, gallows humor is the only thing you have left"

Anonymous
Sorry to steer off but you know what makes me mad? When there's a streamer on Twitch who consistently has 100 subscribers but only 10 viewers.

11:37 AM
yup

Anonymous
That means his audience are just funding and funding him

@Jis12yearsold. ... uh... why?

Anonymous
Continuously

Anonymous
And I feel bad for them

Anonymous
Well, the person in question also streams 3 days a week

Anonymous
11:38 AM
and calls it his "full time" job

Anonymous
And well it is his job because he doesnt work

Anonymous
and refuses to work

Anonymous
so his fans are funding 100 gifted subs + a month consistently

Anonymous
its just wrong.

Anonymous
I actually think MOST people who want to be famous or are, have such a immoral way of getting there.

Anonymous
11:38 AM
i dont like it at all...

@JourneymanGeek I think in Borderlands 2, they tried way too hard to be "wacky" and just added random bullshit

Anonymous
its just weird to me#

Anonymous
its very low effort, that is my main annoyance.

Like, don't get me wrong, I found the minecraft easteregg or the dark souls easteregg hilarious, but everything else...?

Anonymous
you're living off the good will of others and only streaming 3 days a week and refuse to do anything else.

11:39 AM
@MechMK1 and then doubled down on it.
@Jis12yearsold. ah, 20th century panhandling

Anonymous
in my opinion, that is morally bankrupt.

Anonymous
if you want to be a streamer, then be one.

Anonymous
but to say you do it ful time and only go live for 4 hours 3 days a week

@Jis12yearsold. I have peculiar opinions on fulltime streamers

Anonymous
and eat up gifted subs... i dont like that. i think its morally wrong.

Anonymous
11:41 AM
as i said, you're living off the good will of others and you cant even be bothered to show them your effort or appreciation...

A friend of mine could be a twitch affiliate, but she said she doesn't want to, because "money should be given to someone who has a positive impact on society, and playing videogames doesn't"

Anonymous
Yeah, lowkey agree.

Anonymous
Although, I don't really care how someone spends their money.

Anonymous
If they want to donate to streamers, go for it. It's their right.

Yes, it is
But I respect the decision to not take money

Anonymous
11:42 AM
What I do have a problem with is people like this guy who live entirely off gifted subs, refuse to work another job, refuse to put any effort into "making it".

Anonymous
That is the real problem. TO say: "I want to be a streamer full time" and then work 18 hours a week is just... It's nasty.

@Jis12yearsold. If people were going to give me money for something I'm going to do anyway...

Anonymous
It screams entitlement. It screams laziness. It screams "i dont really enjoy thjs"

@Jis12yearsold. "I want to live a life full of pleasure where I never have to contribute to society"
That's what my ex wanted too

I'd probably take it, then donate it to charity :D

Anonymous
11:43 AM
@MechMK1 ^

Anonymous
BIngo... Exactly that, Mech.

She also wanted to "become a streamer"

Anonymous
I have nothing wrong with streamers. In-fact, I am a moderator for one of the biggest streamers on the platform. I have watched him for nearly the entire time he streamed (when he was around 30 viewers per stream).

Anonymous
He now has over 20,0000 a stream, every stream, without fail. But what I remember so clearly is that he worked a full-time job then he would come home and stream every night for no less than 8 hours.

Anonymous
For around 4 years he did this, consistently. No matter what kinda' day he had at work, he came home and played games and streamed because he loved doing it.

Anonymous
11:45 AM
That, I respect, a lot.

Anonymous
But what I don't respect is people saying they want to make it in a field (any field) and then they turn out to only work 18 hours a week and bitch and complain that even 18 hours is too much.

heh, I'm gonna disagree here. If random people are ready to pay me for slacking off, why not take the money?
Then spend the rest of your time doing something you really enjoy

Anonymous
Because it's immoral?

@Jis12yearsold. Morality is... relative?

Why? I'm not forcing anyone to pay me

Anonymous
11:47 AM
To some extent, Journeyman.

I mean, he clearly is happy with the arrangement

Anonymous
But not entirely...

Until it stops working and he's living in a box with no skills

Anonymous
I don't think morality is entirely relative... I think it very much is immoral to take money from "fans" so you can have an easy life and not even put any effort in for the money you're getting in the first place.

Anonymous
This is why I pretty much disagree with the entire idea of being a "celebrity" it's a stupid concept.

11:48 AM
@Jis12yearsold. Agree with that :)
But still, if I'm not worth it, why the hell is anyone paying me?

Anonymous
This doesn't just apply to streamers, I see this infosec a lot too.

Anonymous
People who work 30 hours a week and want to be Jann Horn,.

Anonymous
It just makes me feel quite sick... It's just so entitled it's hard to comprehend.

@Jis12yearsold. Do they become Jann? No AFAIK

Anonymous
No they don't. But whether they do or not is irrelevant, it's the fact they go around bitching and complaining as if they're owed something even though they are the problem.

11:50 AM
So by working 30 hrs they are just shooting themselves in the foot. :shrug: their life
@Jis12yearsold. Complaining without working is immoral, yeah

Anonymous
I mean, yeah. It is their life. I get that. But it's just immoral and entitled and I don't like it at all.

Anonymous
This is one of the many reasons I Interact with such a little amount of people...

Anonymous
Turns out the people I've knwn the longest are also some of the most entitled...

Anonymous
LIke my one friend who thinks he can earn more than me and he just got into cybersec this year through a degree

Anonymous
and i know for a fact when he finishes he'll be bitching and complaining im still ahead and he should be because "ive got a degree"

Anonymous
11:53 AM
its a wider reason for my hate of nearly everyone and everything, basically.

But if somebody is paying me for 10 hrs work streaming, then either they think my 10 hrs are worth it or something is wrong with the world

Anonymous
Well, I think when you throw in the mix of parasocial relationships and the sorts of people that do donate money to streamers, there's a lot of manipulation that goes on there...

Since I don't really interact a lot with the world, I can't tell which one

@Jis12yearsold. Or social engineering :D

Anonymous
Yes.

Anonymous
11:58 AM
It sounds laughable, but it's true. A lot of celebrities also do this.

@Jis12yearsold. Alright, so its the manipulation that is the immoral part

Anonymous
Well, the sad fact is that almost all of it results in manipulation..

Anonymous
Again, this is why I really don't like the idea of celebrities.

Anonymous
Or advertising much in general... I think it all ends up in a big pool of manipulative actions.

agreed, but still the manipulation is immoral, working 10 hours isn't
