@AviD you expect me to read a whole 7 minutes of transcript before ridiculing PHP?
@Simon yes
@RоryMcCune its like the next line
Logic is similar to Cubase in many ways and completely different in others
@AviD nu uh there were three lines between the end of your bit and that bit .
and then you've the elite team who will scoff at anything that isn't ProTools
12:01
pfft
I looked to the end of your bit, didn't see a mention of ghetto source control and typed
You looked at the end of his "bit"?
I used copy based source control in some of my early delphi projects.
@kalina yes, meaning section of text and not any other scurrilous meaning you might choose to take from it
@RоryMcCune but I thought everything was a euphemism
12:03
@CodesInChaos yeah I used to do that to, till I got burned and lost some code.. now I use proper source control
I'm not sure, but I think my first project using real source control (svn) was written in php.
@CodesInChaos my days as a PHP coder it was tar -czvf source.tar.gz source and e-mail to myself
@kalina even that?
@kalina BUT I WANNA SEE IF THE GRASS IS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE
I'm not sure if I want to dare.
12:08
@Simon listen, it's good
what does that even say
"want to dare"
I'm not sure if I'm even sure.
pls let me be French Canadian in peace.
@kalina is that a euphamism?
@RоryMcCune Not bad but it was a slight country feeling to it which usually makes me insane.
@RоryMcCune is that a euphemism?
pls, you didn't even spell euphemism right
12:10
48 secs ago, by Rоry McCune
@kalina is that a euphamism?
eupha
@Simon it has good guitars though
can't go wrong with a good bit of guitar
Like Bluegrass is one of the very few genres that make me want to rip my ears apart.

Q: Can someone help me with the pCloud Crypto Hacking Challenge?

Peter KovalovYesterday I was browsing thru reddit and stumbbled upon this hacking challenge bt cloud storage company pCloud. https://www.pcloud.com/challenge/ Seems like they have file encryption like Spideroak and Tresorit but claim its better. Can someone give me hints with where do I start. Im a student ...

pls
"I can't even make microwavable 1 minute rice without fucking up"
LOL
Yeah she has skills.
12:21
@Simon ahh I wondered where that came from ... the comments
Yep.
yeah I do boggle at someone being able to play that flawlessly (to my inexperienced ears anyway) all the way through
TIL that it's Friday LOL
@TildalWave \o/ Friday
that changes plans somewhat
I can haz moar beer
12:23
Friday Friday, gonna get down on Friday
must be a bummer being someone who works weekends
and Fridays the start of the working week
WHICH SEAT SHOULD I TAAAAAKE?
@Simon misread as gotta go down on Friday
was like, huh, do I know you
@RоryMcCune I kinda work any day I want but Fridays are special in a way that nobody takes me seriously anyway :D
pls
12:25
@TildalWave you freelance, or does your company just have a loose interpretation of "working week"?
it's just never finished during normal work hours
@TildalWave ahh :/ that's the less good version. Although we're similar, many jobs aren't really scoped to be completable 9-5 Mon-Fri
@RоryMcCune not really tbh
because then you work for 2 days per week instead of 5
I'm unsure why that would suck
especially since "working" is basically "going out"
@kalina It seems that I've solved my delay issue on my TB-3 last night, it might actually be somewhat useful now.
@kalina well everyone's out partying/relaxing on friday and you're working
12:27
@RоryMcCune by providing the party...
My D provides the party too.
yes, I have had that Monday morning feeling on a Friday afternoon
where I just want to cancel and I have no energy and fuck it bed is so comfy
but really, it's not working like working is
@kalina well your work location is likely a bit different to most offices...
Nah, she plays for startups in Silicon Valley.
@Simon even if I did this, that would still be a bit different to most offices
12:29
True, it'd be at some nurdz mom's house.
or Google's campus
which would still be unlike most offices
I feel you're missing the point and I'm bored of the repetition
Yeah we can move on.
12:42
well that killed the room
12:59
@RоryMcCune I managed 100% on that song on rock band... Eventually
And Tina S unfortunately had no feeling in her playing, which somehow makes the soulless speed of DragonForce even worse
@kalina Roro just called all women soulless.
... How?
I'm just trying to revive the chat by igniting everything on fire.
Copying your hero (ine)
wot
13:04
@RoryAlsop it's still an impressive technical achievement :)
@Simon it's a subtle allusion to the fact that @kalina is your hero
@RоryMcCune oh, I agree! I've seen DragonForce play it live and they made more mistakes than she did
@RoryAlsop although doing it in a concert as part of a set must be way harder
than in a recording studio
Yeah - it does show the difference between someone like Steve Vai, Joe Satriani or Eric Johnson live and folks like DragonForce. Some can play while running around/singing/entertaining the crowd, others need to stay still and play
And different ways of holding a guitar...
13:14
and prince being a nutter (but good with it)
13:26
@RоryMcCune I have noted the lack of response to this comment
maybe that's why he's so mean to me
@kalina yeah @Simon is trying to throw people off the trail of the fact the he idolises you
I reckon he'll have a MLP tattoo by now
pls
@Simon you've not got the tattoo yet?
re-pls
13:39
@RоryMcCune cutie marks
13:55
Can anyone confirm the main part of my answer here?
0
A: Role of derived keys in EAP-PSK in WPA-2

RoraΖWhat you have to understand is that EAP is less of a protocol, and more of a framework. The terminology from this answer is valid because of the following quote from the IEEE 802.11i wiki page: To derive the PMK from the PSK, the PSK is put through PBKDF2-SHA1 as the cryptographic hash fun...

or just relentlessly tell me how stupid I am and it doesn't work that way at all.
@RoraΖ You are stupid and it doesn't work that way at all.
@TerryChia You know I saw it coming, and I just didn't have the energy to stop it.
@RoraΖ The DMZ, predictable since 1985.
@RoraΖ I got bored of the idea before I even finished typing, so I didn't.
14:16
@RoraΖ downvoted, not because it's wrong because I don't know if it's wrong or right, but because it's not written in a way that defeated my ADD before I got bored
removed downvote before i accidentally forget and leave it there
@kalina haha. I take it I should remove the entire section of key generation?
Nah, remove the whole answer and add the "aliens" picture.
@RoraΖ I don't know if it's wrong or right
you're asking the wrong person
partially because I don't know but primarily because I don't care
I care as much about you being able to post gibberish on some website as you care about the fact NI Komplete just started installing Polyplex
I give the least amount of fucks about that particular subject
for a total of zero fucks
I was just asking how to improve my answer, but yeah ok I get it. You don't care.
Polyplex looks somewhat neat.
14:25
@RoraΖ pls you should know by now I'm only here for the chat pls dnt b mad
(s/m/gl)ad*
@RoraΖ You're asking the wrong lads, we have no idea what this thing is.
pls @RoraΖ give constructive feedback on this answer I did that explains how audio compression works
pls pls pls
It takes the audio and then
it compresses it
BOOM, audio compression.
14:26
YOU ARE WRONG
STOP BEING SO WRONG - YOU'RE HURTING ME
You're just mad because I understand concepts so well that I explain them like a pro.
ahh look at you two, bickering like an old married couple :op
wat
I doubt @Simon is well equipped enough for me to overcome all of his other flaws
14:32
@kalina just like in moonlighting ! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Series/Moonlighting
I'm equipped like a turtle.
@Simon F....T....M....I
Fucking too much info?
pls roro don't swear
@Simon I was going for "Far" rather than the word you used
much lies
14:34
@Simon pls it's not my fault that's where your mind went
:OOOO
let's face it, who would want a girlfriend who is as damaged as I am anyway?
seems like too much trouble
Don't emo on this fine Friday.
I'm not emoing, I'm just being a realist
Lads, I'm getting half of my sleeve started on Wednesday @@@
14:41
@Simon it's fluttershy isn't it?
pls
@kalina yeah DJ girlfriends who get to go back stage at hot clubs, who would want that
(I'm guessing the answer is young people who like music)
I was referred here from my meta post: meta.security.stackexchange.com/questions/2024/… should I just post my proposed question?
I mean here in chat?
Sure, go ahead.
I was working in a plunker (an online HTML javascript demo-hosting site), and I wanted to download my work as a .zip file. I took the following actions:

1. Tried to download my work in a .zip file.
2. Chrome raised an alert in my download bar saying that the .zip file "may harm [my] browsing experience, so Chrome has block it."
3. I noticed that a file called `Unconfirmed 158006.crdownload` was actually added in my Downloads folder.
4. I renamed the file with a .zip extension (since I was expecting one)
14:48
This does not seem to be different than downloading an unknown zip from a website if you want to consider the case where Plunker distributes malware.
true
So if I simplified my question
I'm the most concerned with knowing if the download itself is a risk
The action of downloading a file?
Or if it only becomes a risk when I rename it with an extension
Or (more specific to .zip files) when extracting/using files
It becomes a risk when you execute it.
I'm not aware of a vulnerability where software is executed after getting renamed.
Yeah it seems unlikely that renaming a file would cause remote code execution.
14:51
cool. So would the question I have be on-topic as is?
Or should I simplify it down to what we discussed just now?
I'm surprised that Chrome still downloaded the zip file completely.
Were all your files there?
Yes
The only thing that happened was the file was downloaded as Unconfirmed 158006.crdownload
Just some random 100kB file
@RоryMcCune sure, that's if you look exclusively at the positives
how about the weird working hours, the being awake at weird times, the easy access to other guys and the paranoia that causes, the loud music at random hours, the doing what I want when I want, etc
and that's before even getting to the psychological damage
@ryanyuyu I'm pretty sure this is how Chrome sandboxes files but I'm assuming that it failed to delete it after "blocking" it.
blocking it doesn't delete it, it blocks it
14:55
@ryanyuyu It's absolutely possible that the act of extracting a zip archive potentially compromises your machine if your zip tool has vulnerabilities.
Is it likely though? No.
@kalina nothing wrong with looking at the positives!
Everything's possible #yolo
@kalina remember no-one's perfect
@TerryChia I feel like this question has already been answered.
@RoraΖ So has almost every other question.
14:57
@Simon yeah I suppose it was just a moment of developer paranoia
@TerryChia Oh yeah? WHAT HAPPENED TO THE DINOSAURS?
@Simon Yo momma sat on them.

Q: Can malicious code trigger without the user executing or opening the file?

ahinathIf a file is downloaded from the Internet, and saved on disk, but is not opened by a user (if we keep autorun off), are there any chances that malicious code (e.g. a virus) in the file could trigger? I'm not asking about attacks that could be made while downloading, or on browsing to a site - im...

@ryanyuyu You've had a good reflex to wonder if trusting Splunker is fine.
Ooh that question title sounds promising
14:58
@RoraΖ Oh wow and it was asked recently.
@ryanyuyu quit the weed
@ryanyuyu The gist of the answer is, yes these things are possible. But they aren't often found in the wild.
Now it's time for beer
Awesome. Thanks guys.
14:59
Happy Friday everyone!
Everything is possible. Even the word "Impossible" says "I'm possible".
pls kalinuh
pls Simun
@RoraΖ Enjoy.
A special place where bears are ponies, pyros are ponies and mods are also ponies
15:01
And Simons don't exist?
what's a Simon?
as ponies?
I really have no idea what's up with women's obsession for ponies.
is that a serious question
what's not to like about ponies
horses are fantastic
ponies are cuter horses
thus even more awesome
like some kind of awesome fantastic super cute mini horse
makes sense to me. Unless you're a gambler better on race horses.
15:04
I'm so not impressed by horses.
well that's probably because they make you feel insecure
wat
They're horses, not lions.
@Simon have you heard the phase "hung like a horse" .. I would suggest that @kalina is alluding to this
@RоryMcCune Nope.
@Simon it refers to the size of reproductive organs on males
15:08
o lawd
@Simon so the implication that ponies make you feel insecure is an intended slight on the size of yours relative to small horses
</jokeexplainer>
I believe that the fact that I didn't even think about that shows that I'm far from insecure.
that that that that
@Simon no that just shows you're ignorant of the idiom :op
pls
I'm aware that a horse has one hell of a ween.
@Simon pls, it just means you avoided bringing it up long enough to use this line
15:16
Sigh.
What I do: "pls", what the world sees me do: "PLS PLS PLS PLS PLS PLS PLS PLS PLS"
actually when you say pls I switch it for swear words
@kalina AFAIK the build worked just fine with Windows 7. I'm going to have to assume the issues is PEBKAC related.
@DavidFreitag do you mean to say that @RoryAlsop is the problem?
Wow dovid, don't attack old men like that.
2
@kalina sorry to say it, but yes
15:30
@DavidFreitag that's disgraceful
Also, @RoryAlsop why did you switch from 7 to 10?
even I wasn't this dismissive when I built my PCs without issue
you're just straight up going "NOPE NOT MY FAULT"
which is exactly what somebody whose fault it was would say
Everything is compatible it should be recognized at the hardware level by the uefi
And once again AFAIK everything worked perfectly fine with 7
If he were here I'd be asking him about it, but he's not so I can only speculate
New City Gas sends me an email to tell me to not miss 3lau there.
pls NCG, pls.
@DavidFreitag so your solution is to use an OS approaching end of life?
that's a pretty poor solution for... well, anything
finished installing Rounds... now installing Scarbee MM-Bass
only 18 more things and then Komplete is installed
15:41
Why on earth do you have to reinstall all this?
well you see, when you get a new PC, it starts with nothing on it
and then over a period of time, you reinstall all of your things
and then you don't need to install them again
How many new PCs do you buy a year you donut?
oh, erm
about...
197?
about 0.4 PCs per year
so it isn't really worth automating it
15:45
I wonder if I were to buy a new Mac if I could just take my current hard drive and stick it in the new Mac.
I believe that it would work since it's pretty much the same hardware.
@DavidFreitag dovid, any idea? ^
otherwise I'd end up spending forever updating the script
@Simon I can't believe that somebody I would chat to willingly would say such a silly thing
as if Apple have actually put a removable hard drive in their laptops for like... ever
What? I upgraded mine to an SSD last year.
A Time Machine back up might be more appropriate though.
pls, apple solder their flash to the motherboard
pls.
@kalina no what I'm saying is that if there were a hardware issue it wouldn't have worked with 7
15:52
once komplete is complete I'm still not even complete
@DavidFreitag and what I'm saying is that if there was a Rory issue the universe would end due to the paradox created
@kalina Rory himself admitted that there were some PEBKAC issues during the assembly phase...
Here we go, I googled Polyplex and now I'm seeing ads of it.
@Simon I don't know apple hardware, sorry.
usuk
But if I had to guess, I'd say as long as the architecture is the same (same CPU type) and the OS is compatible with the hardware then you should be good to go
But that being said I wouldn't recommend it
16:04
@DavidFreitag you wouldn't recommend apple, good call
pls
Today is an overload of pls.
16:42
@DavidFreitag are you made from Teflon? Nothing sticks to you? Always slides off onto somebody else and becomes their responsibility?
I'm so glad I don't shop with David Freitag Computer Consultants LLC
