@Stiv I'm assuming this is RHODODENDRONS (bushes)? Before S, which presumably can mean "school", RON (Harry's friend) pursues RHODODEND (anagram of "odd horned" as indicated by "beast")
Also not sure how beast is an anagram indicator: is it because it's an amalgamation of the letters of "odd horned", and this amalgamation can be imagined as a beast of some sort?
Oh wait, I double checked the meaning and I assume it's the noun senses of savage/crude/violent which is being used for "beast", but my question still stands since "beast" is a noun :0
@oAlt That's the correct answer, and I was using 'beast' in the 'wild thing' sense, such that a something beast could be a wild arrangement of something. May not be standard but you seem to have got there nonetheless...
@msh210 ZEUGMA = GAUZE* has M(e). defn: as quoted from MW, "the use of a word to modify or govern two or more words usually in such a manner that it applies to each in a different sense or makes sense with only one (as in "opened the door and her heart to the homeless boy")". So "losing blood – and my cool" is also an example of a zeugma.
CCCC: Remove outer part (or parts) of an image of plants? (4)
Here's a quick one. The country I'm in is going through a typhoon that's predicted to be quite strong so I might lose internet access if I waste any more time
If (4, 3, 15) means "I am Liam", then 14 is a feminine name.
If (15, 3, 7) means "This is his", then 6 is a way of greeting someone.
Construct a meaningful phrase for (8, 7, 9) if 15 is the name of a country.
CCCC: He directed a TV show about a furry brown alien, a film about a retired black-ops agent, and a romantic comedy about a man who helps people find love accompanied by a farm animal (6,9)
@msh210 : HIRSUTE (furry, TIL) = ET (alien) + US (you and I) returning after HIR ("third" (with) screening of the outer limits). Screening here has the denotation of keeping out/removing/filtering out something.
Usual folks! Each ellipse corresponds to an as-yet-unknown category - two tiles are placed for you - and each remaining tile belongs to at least one category - so the question remains - which goes where and why?

I have a physical Pentomino puzzle lying around, which contains 2 F pieces, one Y piece, one T piece and one W piece. The area into which the squares are supposed to fit in is just a little under 6 units in both directions. What layout am I supposed to use here? Is the solution to rotate a specif...
