Q: A group of six reactions

chandanr777 There exists a group of six reactions to six valid actions. Only one of those reactions can act as a valid action as well. When that valid action is the intended action, there is a possibility of reaction being same as the action. What are those six reactions?

@Stiv ABOUT = quintuple def!: "A fight" = A BOUT, "nearby", "in the neighbourhood", "almost", "concerning"
That's a wordplay + quadruple def though, right? (Is that still valid?) :00

9:42 AM
yeah wp+4def
and yeah wordplay and multiple defs aren't usually combined like that
i don't really mind it all that much in that specific instance though, the clue wouldn't work without "a fight" at the beginning and it's not like the wordplay is overly complicated

True (your last point is the most convincing for me)

One last callback to past messages for now (I don't wanna keep doing it):

Anyway, I've made more C4s inspired by HNQs, some of which are not exactly correct, but I wanted to get as close to the original wording of the question as I could:
The cryptic clues, inspired by HNQs, that HTM made were one inspiration for me to include PSE questions' titles into some of my C4 cryptic clues. :0
It didn't inspire me fully though (meaning to say that I've been wanting to experiment with making such clues for a while already; looking at past messages, and then at HTM's HNQCC's, only urged me further to start making the clues)

Hi. Is there anywhere to get comments on draft questions?

1:47 PM
there used to be a riddle sandbox but i don't know if anyone monitors it anymore

@Jafe ah.. I just found it
but if no one uses it that's not so good

asking here is also allowed :)

thanks! I think I will do that
how many people are in this chat room?

if you look at the room stats there are 10 people that are "frequently in this room"
not sure if there are actually just 10 or if the stat just shows the top 10

thanks

@AncientSwordRage This looks like TYNE AND WEAR = T_ Y_ N_ E_ A_ N_ D_ W_ E_ A_ R_, which is home to these Archives. The surface is also fairly literal.
'Port' here is being interpreted as 'left' in the nautical sense

Is a proof "left as an exercise for the reader" allowed as the answer to a math puzzle? A pattern is stated but no explanation given. puzzling.stackexchange.com/a/118101/69582

10:11 PM
@bobble I'd say this isn't against the rules, but it would make the answer a bad one
in this particular case the answer doesn't even attempt to answer the original question, though

@Stiv correct!
@Stiv the two rivers do actually follow those directions, which is quite coincidental!

It does sort of answer the original question. I mean, it doesn't bother actually doing the arithmetic, and it also doesn't bother supplying the mathematics, so it's a really bad answer, but if you squint it does actually tell you that the answer is 1+6+15+20+15.

Oops didn't mean to delete: in summary, I think that's a bad answer and I'm not keen on that "left to the reader style" on mathematics.se but at least then it's sort of understandable

And, although the answer is equivalent to e.g. Sayed Mohd Ali's, it's expressed differently enough that it's not 100% a duplicate, and it does (unlike all the other answers, surprisingly) at least say a few words about why it initially looks like powers of 2.
