The Emperor is annoyed that the crowd routinely chant out of step at the Empire's largest amphitheatre. For example, they are supposed to shout phrases in unison such as "Hail to the Emperor, he is great!" and yet they always sound like a rabble.
All powerful though he may be, he realises he can...
You have discovered a map to some buried treasure on an island the shape of a circle. The map has 9 markers which represent posts situated on the edges of the island.
The 9 posts are located; North, North-Northeast, Northeast, East, South, South-Southwest, West-Southwest, West and West-Northwest...
Brushing away the tree roots hanging from the ceiling I realised that the unicorn had stopped.
“I will not go further,” he said in his deep, rich voice, “you know the prophecy. There is only one who will be the hero, who will defeat Him who holds the Powers. There is only one who will pass thro...
@Mithrandir Up to you. I expect I (or the other denizens of PSE, in comments) will figure everything out eventually, so it depends on how quickly you want the puzzle solved.
Full disclosure: These clues are part of Day 9 of Daniel Peake's Puzzlevent
I am new to Cryptic Crosswords and I'm stuck on a few and would like some hints to solve them (I'm NOT looking for full answers, just nudges to try and help me work them out). I understand that there is often a definit...
@Sphinx Does this fall afoul of our policy on ongoing competitions? It's not really a competition per se - there are no prizes and no 'winners'. But it's definitely an ongoing thing where the solutions haven't been posted.
(@GarethMcCaughan, I see you're online now - thoughts?)
I wouldn't call it a "competition" - as I said, there are no prizes, and as far as I know no recognition for solving. It's entirely for the fun of the solvers. So I think it's probably alright?
It's not obvious to me whether he's going to be, e.g., saying "Congratulations to X, who solved everything". Certainly no prizes. Meh, I guess it can stay.

I feel as if my challenges are a bit too extreme for many, so here is a more simpler conundrum to solve. The cipher used is the same as the answer to this riddle:
When is a cipher like a person who never cheats?
Here is the key that will help decrypt the encoded message. I'd advise that you...
Note: I have invented this puzzle myself as far as I know. I'm certainly not aware of having read it anywhere else. I have no idea whether it will be hard or easy.
A man is imprisoned in a strong steel cage with a steel floor. The cage is open at the top but the vertical bars are greased and c...
This is a pure dissection problem, with no added twists. Cut the holey octomino (i.e., a square with the middle third removed) into several pieces, and reassemble those pieces into a square with no hole. Aim for as few pieces as possible.
My solution uses 5 pieces. Is it possible to do better?
