@Mithrandir it's RE-CEPTION!

@Rubio It's like the Google Easter Egg

Do you mean recursion?

It's an Inception reference

Yes. Google 'recursion'

But, hey, I need rep too :-)

didn't know it was a dup
I dunno that it's bad, actually. I thought it was cute.

10:57 AM
Nah, my bad not a dupe
Well, I won't say cute
I would say too easy to make it into a puzzle :-)

well. I'm not sure what to call it. certainly not clever

yeah. that.

10:58 AM
This one was better
Spoiler: it's the same answer :-)

that's ... beautiful.

@Rubio Sure, but I just wanted to clarify in case anyone was seriously worried about that possibility.

mornin' @Randal'Thor :)

Afternoon :-)

Hello cap'tain

11:10 AM
@Sphinx Unclear what you're asking?

Actually, as Ankoganit said, it's more of a joke than a puzzle
Maybe the reason to close

It's a very common question too
I mean, I'm okay with people sharing/passing on other's questions, but at least don't make it something you can find on yahoo answers.

@IAmInPLS Oh, now I get it (having seen the answers). Maybe it shouldn't be closed after all then. I stand by my downvote though.
And this is a much better version:

Hmm. Lunch time. It's 1:30, and I haven't eaten yet...

@IAmInPLS Oops, sorry! :-P
@Rubio Nah, it's nearly midday here.

Oh, I know. Hence the quotes hehe
I meant you're just getting caught back up in here is all

You could be implying that I only wake up at 11, of course ...

11:32 AM
Entirely possible :P

Or that when you get out of bed and when you actually wake up may be different times, some days by hours. That certainly wouldn't be the voice of experience or anything . . .

I should probably stop stalking Smokey and go eat.

1:07 PM
Do we need to close this one for plagiarism? puzzling.stackexchange.com/questions/47518/rebuses-are-back

yes

tl;dr : this puzzle is entirely taken from an off-site resource found on the web
Alright, I VTC with a custom reason

Heh. So did I, 9 seconds after you...

I didn't felt like editing anything after checking that. Bad

@Techidiot The right thing to do is to close it :-) leave your answer as it is, in its actual state

1:11 PM
close it yah

Yup!

At first glance I suspected it came from elsewhere. I just didn't feel like looking for it.

Yeah. That kind of "nice looking" pictures :D
And far from being cryptic

What's happening to PSE these days? :-X

1:16 PM
New year. New idiots.

It's gone.
I had someone report it to Smokey :P

Smokey?

I see.

1:43 PM
@Rubio I'm confused why this needs to be flagged...
Or was there some other answer I'm not seeing?

Deleted now @dcfyj
It was basically an insult

Ah, that kind of lovely...

Also it had this word!

2:06 PM
@Techidiot As mentioned before - it comes in waves =D
And hiya, Deu

Yeah they do!
There are too many unanswered and unaccepted ones now.... Pushing down some good old ones..

I'm just glad questions get answered on PSE. On Arqade, nearly all of my answers gets +1'ed then ignored (probably by OP) or marked answered, and never seen again. I have several green +1's over there. lol

Q: Edward and Bruce

Enigma QUWZTF Z'QAQ UXTRO SXURM YYYQZ MMMD' Turning my back on you A la a dramatic insult Like Edward and Bruce I spoke for him But I am not big and furry Where was I born?

He's been hiding from us

2:18 PM
:/ But....
"Guess what I'm thinking."

Hm?

For me, the benefit of the doubt for now

Yeah - but clearly a good definition of the "how not to do a puzzle" example.

I think almost any enigmatic runs the risk of being so labeled
I'm with @IAmInPLS - giving benefit of the doubt, for now.

I disagree.

2:20 PM
Not necessarily.

An enigmatic puzzle is a "PUZZLE" in which the means of solving it are not necessary.
This is basically picking up scraps of random paper, off the street, and assuming that they relate to each other.

Every first letter headed towards TALIB...AN but remained incomplete

Well, we're basically given that they do.

We can definitely make that assumption, yes - but the puzzle needs to define a correlation or we're back to "Guess what I'm thinking."

Autobinomonorownonomicrogram ... oh, my.

2:22 PM
Again, not necessarily. I'm not a fan of this puzzle either (at the moment) because it does seem very guess-what-I'm-thinking-y.
But there's technically nothing wrong with it at the moment.

1
Q: Autobinomonorownonomicrogram

humn   ☆   Be the first to make your own nontrivial autobinomonorownonomicrogram   ☆ “Impossible!” you scoff?   Might indeed be, except that your autobinomonorownonomicrogram may be infinitely wide and include leading 0s, as in 01 or 0010. $ \requir...

I'm certainly going to disagree with you, Deu.
And I'm looking for a link to explain why...

I think I could make a puzzle in that format that's a lot better. It's not the format itself that's the issue.

I just like to listen to the google lady say it here: translate.google.com/#en/en/Autobinomonorownonomicrogram

Rodney McKay: "It might as well say 'bing-tittle-tittle-bop.'"

2:29 PM
That question got upvoted in a few seconds :) I am still going through it :)

His puzzles always astonish me
Though I haven't tried to solve any

Yeah, I love humn's presentation style

Yeah. True! They are some awesome graphics.

His other recent puzzle is still unsolved, and is pretty cool

He definitely loves his LaTex, hehe

I am still a jack of mathjax :D

Jim
What puzzle were you all just recently talkin about?

Which one?

Jim
@Deusovi these comments

"Edward and Bruce"

2:53 PM
So, the smily murderer
Did anyone find the culprit?

Was just looking at that, too
(And honestly, "Smily Murderer" just makes me think of the show: The Magicians)

I'm afraid of basic knowledge of popular culture
How popular? What culture?

I can't get "Gun Pow Ah" out of my head, which is useless, because I can't find a way to match it to anything

@Khale_Kitha I just started watching this the other day... it's like Narnia meets Hogwarts

So it's hard to reinterpret it

Yeah, but it's a bit more like Narnia meets Hogwarts, while looking over Torchwood's shoulder.
The clue on that makes me think more of my original idea of Awe-filled Heart or some synonymous idea

Strange thing is only the E seems to be filled, but I may be wrong

Could be for simplicity's sake

Just solved auto[noncommittal mumble]gram!

yep

2:58 PM
lol, Deu

I suspect that rebus is something along the lines of "Heart filled with wonder"
but what movie that would be, is beyond me

Yeah - I keep leaning towards that or bursting with awe
but not really bursting, per se

so @Deusovi - I don't suppose you have any ideas on this pesky CCCC?
8 hours ago, by Rubio
I feel like this has to be SOUND _ _ _ _ with "[to] rely on acoustics?"= def. but I can't find anything suitable for the blank that works with accordingly [to] which I'd expect to give something from {ergo, thus, so+to, as+to}.

I keep wondering if "It's a wonderful life" is related.

Well, I do have ideas.
Nothing conclusive, but...
I think "designed [well]" is actually the definition.
"accordingly to rely" could be homophoned (heard "on acoustics", perhaps) as the wordplay.

3:09 PM
hmmmmmm.

I'd split it on the comma. So the definition would simply be "Designed"

Yeah, but the comma could be intentionally misleading

It could be. Nothing is certain.

I just can't stop thinking of accordion

... but death and taxes.

3:11 PM
The first thing that comes to mind, for me, is "Wayfinder"
Due to accoustic wayfinding.

Wayfinder?

I just can't relate it to "Designed, well"
Basically someone who uses their ears to see.
Think Daredevil

I'm not very familiar with superheroes
but that wouldn't work - part of speech conflict

Not really

wayfinder is a noun, "to rely on acoustics" is a verb phrase

3:12 PM
I think of HARMONICS with acoustics as def.. but not sure if it fits the rest

Yes, well it actually say: "accordingly: to rely on acoustics"
Which a wayfinder would
As mentioned before, these things aren't always literal

Sure, but the definition part of speech would have to match up with the actual word's part of speech.

oh, I meant to confirm; "sounds like" indicators are, strictly, words that have the same sound—homophones—not mere rhymes. right?

That's something a wayfinder would do, but not a wayfinder itself.
A definition has to be... well, an actual definition.
@Rubio Yeah.

Yes, but my point, Deu...
Is that there's nothing to clearly state that it's a definition of the word we're looking for. That's an assumption you're making.
It's not necessarily incorrect, but it is an assumption.

3:15 PM
Well, if WAYFINDER is the answer, then there'd have to be a definition somewhere, and "designed..." doesn't seem like one.

As I said.

I'm with the "designed well" guess, with accordingly probably being SO then homophone for "to rely"?

The ? is suspicious

Oh, you mean it to not be an answer? Then I don't think any wordplay could modify it.

What if there's a hidden wordplay

3:16 PM
Arguing about it isn't productive, at this point.

Or, the right half could hint a word like "Listen" or "Hear"

Possibly, Tech

The only real options we have out of the standard repertoire are charades and homophone. Charades adds length, which we can't do to an already 9-letter word
@Techidiot Hm? What do you mean?

Does the ellipsis mean anything?

May be a few letters from here-and-there to form a word?

3:18 PM
@ChrisCudmore Nothing I can think of.

Is this will's 'evil' double def?

@Techidiot That'd have to be indicated, and I don't see an indicator for that anywhere.

and so on. etc, et al, infinitely prolonged

@TheGreatEscaper Don't think so

Ooh, that's actually possible.

3:19 PM
He said he will keep it for an actual puzzle

^

Ah okay.

Surface reading of first half could be COMPLIANT. Now, can we make it fit.
Would allow ... as a charade.

3:44 PM
Wow, didn't see that it was that disputed: puzzling.stackexchange.com/questions/47513/…

That thing should be closed in my opinion. The guy actually says that he has brought it from the internet. And it's more of a joke than a real puzzle.

Jim
Now I just really want pizza

Add the humour tag maybe?

No, he said he heard it from his boss.
Other people are the ones complaining about it being from the internet.

Sid
Same thing.

3:50 PM
Well. Yes, but no

That's more of a joke than a puzzle

Sid
His boss has a terrible sense of humor

We do allow unoriginal things here, as long as they have appropriate attribution and as long as they're not distribution-restricted by their original copyright

Sid
Well, yes but...

He gave the attribution he knew of, so either he's disingenuous or he's not plagiarising

Sid
3:51 PM
That's not even a nice puzzle... bah. Whatever.

(and it's all over - hard to argue for copyright restriction)

Well, that's not original, but that shouldn't much of issue cuz this is basically a chestnut (?)

so can't really attack it on plagiarism grounds.
on grounds that it's lame, or not a puzzle, perhaps.
As for being a chestnut, I'm not convinced; did you know it, or know it was "out there" before people started posting about it?
I know I didn't.
I have no problem with people downvoting it, or wanting it closed because it's a joke or not a puzzle (or both)
I just think "it's not original" is a bad reason to want it closed.

i've serious problems with the there

As do most of us.
