Vote reason not accurate

Hmm, I thought plagiarised stuff are to be deleted than just closed

Sid
They should be.

Yep, people with VTD powers can VTD.

Yeah

Unfortunately, we, the plebs, don't have such privileges.

4:02 PM
I'm looking for a volunteer to create 6 Cryptic Clues with specific answers for an upcoming puzzle.

mumbles about all of the privileges losses when the site went live...

If someone volunteers, I'll ping a mod and ask for a private room.

@Mithrandir I'll be happy to give it a go

@Deusovi @GentlePurpleRain You here?

@Mithrandir I'll play

4:03 PM
Emrakul doesn't count anymore?

@IAmInPLS we can still flag, right? It's slower, but IMO more appropriate

@IAmInPLS Seriously unable to read your puzzle without: "We all live in a yellow submarine..."

Don't see Emrakul in the list of users that are in the chat :P

@Ankoganit Yes, exactly

You could still ping him :P

4:04 PM
@Khale_Kitha They are not the Beatles, sorry :-)

ping @Emrakul ^

hehe

I have to go, have fun solving it!
@Sphinx I summon you
(this works sometimes, i promise)

(I'm teasing, IAmInPLS)...
Silly Rhyme Scheme: ABAB ABAB AAB...wait

3
Q: Beware of our kingdom!

IAmInPLS We all live in a kingdom Sometimes big, sometimes small We bring shivers, happiness or boredom Among other emotions you'll recall You want to see the last of us first? Doing this, I suggest not to Or for you, our bond will be burst Curiosity's a bad thing, you kn...

4:06 PM
wait that actually worked

Nope
Just coincidence :P

Sid
@Techidiot If you are here, in your riddle, does the three elders mean the first 3 letters of something? Or the first letters of 3 different words?

@IAmInPLS Am I right?

@Sid Not sure if I can reveal that right now. Though, not sure if it gives anything :)

@Mithrandir IAmInPLS had to go - but if that's NOT it I'll be surprised.

4:13 PM
@Rubio On mobile

If it doesn't give it away, Tech - is the appropriate

Well, this is not it technically :-P
You're very very very close though.

Awww. TOO BROAD hammer
:)

Sid
Must be a tv series then.

:-) @Mithrandir What do books contain? And look at the title, and you're good

4:15 PM
Oh....well now I know the answer, lol
But he's too close for me to answer now, without being unfair
That was a massive clue :P

POLONIUS ... (to HAMLET) What are you reading, your highness?
HAMLET. Words, words, words.
obviously, books contain words. muahahaa

Though there is merit in not meeting every one. Because therein lies the fun of re-reading a book and realizing a detail you missed, before. =D
@Matt See, I never would have guessed that because I hate that guy.. lol

I've never seen his videos

I couldn't get through more than a minute

but I know he is an immensely popular internet personality
which fit the hint in the comment

4:19 PM
Yeah

I don't usually watch vlogs or let's plays

I watch lets plays, but not the ones where the "personality" has none.

Which youtuber is this?

the gaming youtuber

4:20 PM
The youtuber, period
#1 most subscribers by far

it's also why I left my answer a little informal

No offense to your answer, but - dear God, that's a stupid puzzle. "How NOT to do a Rebus" should link there.

...lol

Yeaaaahhhh not the biggest fan either.

4:21 PM
Don't even get me started on the "hint".

Kind of falls in line with the "don't make red herrings just for red herrings" rule, too.
Kinda of? wth am I typing..

Oo, I really REALLY want grid logic to be the next fortnightly.

We're due for one, no?

Why write in red herrings when the solvers do it for you? :P

Sid
Who is that guy, again? Unfortunately, I have never heard of them. And what was the point of the pi being reversed?

4:23 PM
'rebus' is catching up.

Just a red herring, from what I can tell, Sid - no purpose.

@sid he's a Swedish guy who plays games. And people watch him play games. And he's very popular. He also makes dirty jokes.

he also likes to yell

Oh yeah. Mostly because he plays freeware horror.

No idea who you're talking about, but I usually watch NL and his crowd if anyone

4:25 PM
@Khale_Kitha typing like this: youtube.com/watch?v=npSVS9CJyPc&t=20

Ohh too trivial :|

haha, Rubio

I think mainly I use youtube to see the scores for obscure post-romantic music :) haven't watched 'standard' videos in a while.

I tend to watch prank videos :P

To each their own :)

4:26 PM
car videos. all the car videos.

Yeah - I'm not a fan of the site, in general, but sometimes get caught up, lol
All the car videos are belong to Matt.

Oof, I hope grid logic holds the lead. Been working on a very big thing that would be perfect for that fortnightly.

Right. No touching!

lol

ooh, wordplay is catching up too
;)

4:29 PM
(*stuffs the ballot box*)

Sigh.....Again?!

hides the ballot box

(Pulls all of the fish out of the ballot box)

hey give that back! I will not be denied my suffrage!

Help Help! He's being repressed!

4:30 PM
You shall all suffrage with me.

lol

Presses the button over and over...Represses again

in high school a joke petition went around to end women's suffrage
lots of signatures, even from some woman teachers
sigh
some people just want to be repressed
ooh, 5k total rep :D

That's awesome

I find myself noting the similarity between suffrage and Snuff Rage
Grats, Matt

4:32 PM
and ooh! grats!
I hit 10k total earlier. and 10k on PSE is not far off.
capped for the day though, alas

oh, boo hoo ...
:P

:)

Matt...

me?

I feel bad when I read these long puzzles and think to myself: Bah, that's too long. I dont want to read that.

4:33 PM
I have a puzzle all ready to post too. Now I gotta twiddle my thumbs until 0:00 UTC

........Then I remember my email puzzle..

omg that one

haha

my attention span still has stretch marks

hah

4:34 PM
Hahaa.. @Khale_Kitha I successfully read that one. ;)

You? I'm the one who had to write it and make sure that all of the details and dates stayed in order.
lol, Tech

but writing is your creative expression. get on it whenever the mood strikes

I still laugh when I periodically get a +5 from the Rick Roll puzzle, though

reading is grueling

Yeah, I'm really wanting to make something new....
I have something started, but can't figure out how I want to do the trick.
And that one, too (to whomever upvoted - thanks)
Oh, it was the Rick Roll one....*sigh at self*

4:37 PM
Who wanted to create the Cryptic Clues for me? Sorry, was AFK for a while.

I don't remember the first, but I think @ChrisCudmore was the second

I'm up for it, but there's probably more experienced crypticers who are happy to do it.

Yeah, TGE spoke first

So email tombquestwiki@gmail.com
(not my real account, but one I have access to :P)

Sure. :P

4:39 PM
is there such thing as a meta cryptic? a series of cryptic clues that when solved, make another clue?

If you create one there will be

There was a puzzle called Cryptic Chain

I think there was one where a cryptic clue solves the next
Yeah, the Cryptic Chain

what I have in mind isn't so much of a chain as a funnel

The funnel is cool.

4:41 PM
So like...I'm making this up on the spot..

It's hard to make a fairly long cryptic clue that doesn't have silly filler words though

There was one puzzle which when solved gave a cryptic clue

4 Clues whose answers are The, Beginning, And, The End, and the final answer is Alpha and Omega
Meant as a very 'base' example

I think it was posted by @Sid

yeah, that's what I was thinking

Sid
4:42 PM
Huh?

As long as you can pull it off, I say it's worth a try, Matt.
It's certainly tricky to accomplish

well I've never written a cryptic clue

@Mithrandir Not books, rather what books contain

you folks can be my guinea pigs

Words?

4:43 PM
A book is a kingdom

Na

pages, letters
stories

...

Sid
Chapters?

4:44 PM
^
this

Chapters is the answer?

It wouldn't let me ^ again, hehe
That was my guess too, but books was too close, so I didn't want to steal your answer =D

Yes! Chapters.

Clearly, however...

Sid
@Matt Go through Deusovi's guide and then, through the CCCC. That would be enough to write a cryptic clue..

4:45 PM
The answer excludes the existence of Build-Your-Own-Story books =D

@Mithrandir what difficulty level are you looking for

...sort of

Medium

I've been through it a couple of times, but I'll refer to it as I write

Finds secret [unintentional] clue in @Rubio's puzzle
Hehe

4:48 PM
@Mithrandir Yeah, that was me.
Sorry, had to go old code spelunking to fix a fix that was fixed.

@ChrisCudmore Do you want me to send you the list of answers too, and you and @TheGreatEscaper can split them?

Sure, Sounds good. Chris.Cudmore@ that google mail service thingy

Can you just email tombquestwiki@gmail ?

@Khale_Kitha What are you on about?

LoL, just joking about the 'Cipher' bit in your puzzle

4:51 PM
done
CC @TheGreatEscaper and we can collaborate.

Not unintentional. :)

What time frame?

intentionally meant as a clue? Because that's what I was referring to

I've got to head down to the Boy Scout Office for about an hour, but I'll be back.

There's two bits of unnecessary stuff visible in Edit that isn't really going to help, but is there on purpose one way or another

4:53 PM
I can just have two CCs for each word :)

Right

I've got 5 clues down already.

I hope someone is able to make some sense of my puzzle soon. I know @Techidiot actually hit on a few accurate guesses amongst his handful of off-base ones, so the stuff I hoped people would figure out is indeed figure-out-able.
Yes. That's a word. I just used it, so it must be.
My next CCCC will be (6-3-4). You saw it here first, folks.

@Rubio In that case I think I know what its answer will be.

@Mithrandir done 6 cryptics, happy to make alternatives for the ones you don't like.

4:57 PM
hullo @GarethMcCaughan, long time no hear :)

I'm horrible at cryptics, which is why I needed volunteers :P

Are you also proposing (11,5) and at least four instances of (6) and (3)?
@Rubio hi. I've been a bit quiet over the holidays, indeed.
er, sorry, my last-but-one comment is unclear: at least four (6) but just one (3). Oh, and I forgot the (5) associated with it.

@Mithrandir You may finalize your answer to that riddle. Don't think its a guess anymore :)

sets status to Creating puzzle; do not disturb for the time being

@GarethMcCaughan You lost me. :) that's ok, I'm on a meeting and half distracted

4:59 PM
@Mithrandir do you need the explanations, or is it alright.

@Rubio Then I'm probably guessing wrong what your (6-3-4) is.

A cryptic clue, for me, and you. Can you solve it? What will you do?
:P

Figure out able? XD

I'll try. If I need the explanation, I'll ping ya

Sent a few off.
Feel free to criticize.

Okay, Humn :P

@ChrisCudmore wanna compare? Feel free to email me at williamhu1201 at gmail.com
It'll be fun to see what differences/similarities our clues have.

sent Only did 4 so far.
And one reference might be too dated
I like some of those...

I really like your unsuspicious clue. Loads better than mine

5:15 PM
@Matt finally thought of something, though it may be a little simple, this time. I never can tell.

So @ChrisCudmore and @TheGreatEscaper can you decide on which are the best and send me an email please? I'm gonna be busy IRL for a while.

Yeah, will do.

Q: Cook's bark on the sea

Khale_KithaSlightly changed, I am Cook's bark on the sea I can, but I am, as targets may be. Upon the air, I'm part of change, though my name, itself, has had a range. My children, they number quite evenly, Except in the times where you may be. Repeating my start, but once before I end with the e...

@TheGreatEscaper I combined ours into a master list, and voted.

5:31 PM
@Khale_Kitha Cook's bark anagram's to "BOOKRACKS" which I guess may be a coincidence :D

Coincidence? I think not! ....oh wait.. I meant: I think so!
You just have books on the mind from IAmInPLS's puzzle, hehe

Lol. No..

I'm thinking Captain Cooks Barque -- Endeavour

It's just that Cook's bark sounds strange.. And there is "changed slightly" placed

I will admit one thing. The title is not a hint, per se, in this case. I'm just horrible at coming up with titles for puzzles.

5:33 PM
HMS Endeavour, also known as HM Bark Endeavour, was a British Royal Navy research vessel that Lieutenant James Cook commanded on his first voyage of discovery, to Australia and New Zealand, from 1769 to 1771. She was launched in 1764 as the collier Earl of Pembroke, and the navy purchased her in 1768 for a scientific mission to the Pacific Ocean and to explore the seas for the surmised Terra Australis Incognita or "unknown southern land". The navy renamed and commissioned her as His Majesty's Bark the Endeavour. She departed Plymouth in August 1768, rounded Cape Horn, and reached Tahiti in time...
@ChrisCudmore You may be right
This page has the exact phrase "Cook Bark" :)

Where?
Meaning: I didn't see it with Ctrl F

Cooks Bark
Search for this

hah, funny

And well, a lot of things regarding "sea" haha.. Again, a coincidence I say

@Chris voted, commented, added a suggestion for a new clue.

5:39 PM
sorry, back from beyond
looking now, KK :)

I thought it was going to be good

'A gun goes "pew pew pew"' - really? That just is silly.
I could think of much better things to hide 'pew'

Yeah...

heh

5:48 PM
@TheGreatEscaper Final Revision sent. Forward to the Bossman if you're ok.

And also 'die' : the scared face dies because gun shot

Confucious say: Man who fart in church, sit in own pew.
Yeah, I'm still a little up in the air on that part, PLS

Was good until you found the answer...

Yes...

@Khale_Kitha Will wait and watch how the things like "Cook's bark"/I can, but I am/ etc

5:50 PM
That tends to be the issue with several puzzles types, riddle and rebus included.

yeah, not a very cerebral puzzle

Having a little trouble understanding the intent of that sentence, Tech - sorry.

he wants to let other people figure out the parts that confuse him :P

oic

Haha
Nope.. I am curious to know the answer :p I can't make anything out of a few things in that riddle/rhyme
Should be an interesting one!

5:52 PM
@TheGreatEscaper I'm going to edit those in and send them off.

I'm certainly reticent about giving any clues on it, at the moment, for various reasons.

Nah. Don't. It's hardly been seen.

Alright, thanks @ChrisCudmore! I'm probably going to catch some sleep if I'm not needed around anymore, it's 2 am here.

runs into the room
Excuse me, TGE. You're needed in dreamland.
Exits

@Mithrandir SENT!

5:55 PM
@Khale_Kitha I am in bed, and have been for the past two hours :)

Thanks!!

Well I wasn't wrong! :P

Portable devices have made my sleep schedule rather bizarre.

There - Fixed it.

the I can but I am line cues "round" for me
you can round, and you are round, like a target

5:56 PM
You have the right idea.

Speaking of dreamland, any lucid dreamers here?

sometimes

Sometimes, but I tend to have a lot of control

Once in a while

never

5:57 PM
Ah god my sleep schedule during christmas went ridiculously wrong and now its really hard to get back into my normal schedule now I'm back at school. Not sleeping much at the moment so no dreams here :P
I usually don't anyway

I hate waking up from an interesting lucid dream. It's like having to turn off a good TV show in the middle of an episode.....that you know you'll probably never finish.

I usually lucid dream if I go to sleep really late (like now), and I can practically guarantee a lucid dream with very strong control in an afternoon nap.

You mention lucid dreaming and Mr Meyers shows up. Look out for anyone named Fred.

interestingly enough, my most vivid dreams happen during naps rather than night time

I was legitimately infuriated a few days ago when I was taking an afternoon nap, had set up an awesome premise, and was woken by the sound of my dad sneezing 6 times in a row, very loudly.

5:59 PM
Hahahaha

at night, I try to relax and then my alarm goes off

@Matt Classic!
