@WesleyDavid I am always sober at 7.57am on a thursday. But then again, maybe I'm the only one...

Ugh I dont want to go to work on Monday

Quick to the HVAC units! Let's sprinkle bath salts into our air supply!

heh. yelling bird

My chat bot sends me a text message any time fisting is mentioned.

@MarkHenderson Wow you get to work early.

9:00 PM
@mossy fisting fisting fisting

@WesleyDavid 7.30am dude

fu

thats what happens when your clients work in construction and plumbing

@MarkHenderson That's early.

YELLING BIRD WILL FIST THIS CHAT'S WHISKY HOLE

BLISTERS: NATURE'S LUBE DISPENSERS

MAN CANNOT LIVE ON DICK ALONE BUT A DECENT SIZED COCK IS A HEARTY MEAL FOR A SMALL BIRD SUCH AS MYSELF

@MarkHenderson Do they need someone in a North American time zone to do some admin work

@MarkHenderson I'm still eating breakfast then.

@MarkHenderson ew

@Cole I had resisted posting that one for SO LONG

9:01 PM
@WesleyDavid No but I have whored myself out to NA so that you dont have to be on call at night
(it didn't work)

now you've RUINED the surprise

@voretaq7 FOR WHY

@ewwhite good

So here's today's WTF...

@voretaq7 Nothing you consume will surprise me.

9:01 PM
Anyway there's almost no admin work I do for our clients, most of it is project management

I'm leaving work soon, get your WTFs in

Action Required!!

If you know of a vendor who is unable to e-mail Kroger, please have their e-mail administrators follow the steps specified in the following article: http://clintboessen.blogspot.com/2010/12/451-440-dns-query-failed.html.

If the vendor continues to experience issues with e-mailing Kroger after following these steps, please have them contact Kroger’s support center at 1-800-952-8889 and say, “desktop” to log a ticket.

IF IT LOOKS LIKE A DICK AND SOUNDS LIKE A DICK IT'S PROBABLY A DICK SO STOP QUACKING AND SUCK IT
I want to know what a dick sounds like

@ewwhite hahha

What’s Happening

An issue was discovered on 1/28/2013 regarding multiple vendors not being able to send e-mail to Kroger.

9:02 PM
My cat is kneading my blanket like cray right now. He's like I LOVE YOU BITCH KEEP PETTING ME WHILE I DESTROY THIS BLANKET

I'm still flabbergasted by the fact that they have email in Australia already.
3

YOU REALLY PUT THE "OW" IN "MOUTH"

ur cat is awsome @cole

@MarkHenderson much like a duck, I suppose that depends on what it's doing?

@ewwhite Hm. I have something from a few months ago about Kroger...let me dig it back up.

9:03 PM
Balls sound like "slap slap slap" and a vagina sounds like "squelch squelch squelch", but what does a dick sound like?

Paint me like one of your French girls

@Cole um... OK? ::grabs paintball gun::

@MarkHenderson Hey, I have that book! Squelch, squirch, squelch, squirch.

@MichaelHampton So based on that, why should I change anything about my Exchange setup?

@ewwhite Oh yeah, Kroger's proxy server was prefetching pages from one of my clients' websites... by the hundreds.

9:05 PM
@ScottPack Dr Seuss?

@MichaelHampton bluecoat?

@DennisKaarsemaker Dunno, don't have that logged. But whatever it was, they fixed it pretty fast... partially since whoever was visiting the site wasn't supposed to be.

@MarkHenderson We're Going On A Bear Hunt

@ScottPack they're usually in the same neighborhood as the leather bars... or did you mean the other kind?

@voretaq7 I meant the other kind.

9:09 PM
If ever there was a day to drink on the job, it would be this one. This datacenter move is trying to kill me.

@voretaq7 In related news.

@sysadmin1138 We're all currently drunk off of our mental health issues - welcome aboard!

@ScottPack I've seen worse looking bears

@voretaq7 Who hasn't?

@WesleyDavid Oh lordie. Every time I think I have a key dependancy nailed down the damned thing comes loose again.

9:11 PM
@MichaelHampton I mean, that's the sign of a bad IT department, right?

@sysadmin1138 That's why it's usually better to let a weaving dissolve instead of picking it apart. Sure, it leaves a viewable residue, but at least it won't blow up in your face.

@ewwhite I went back to look at what you posted, and it was replaced. So I'm not sure?

@ScottPack BUT I HAVE A HAMMER

@ScottPack also I'm far more disturbed that you're verifying genders (and yet intrigued as to what "an acceptable margin of error" is)

9:13 PM
...
I will NOT photoshop the face of my account-manager in there. Tempting though it is.

Come on...

@sysadmin1138 Don't photoshop. Recreate with his actual face.

If I come through this weekend with any SAN points left, I'll be firing their ass. But I still need to maintain good relationships until after all my crap is moved.

OK, nerds. I'm heading home for the day
Try not to let @ScottPack get too comfortable

@MDMarra I find it adorable that you aim to make me uncomfortable.

9:16 PM
@ScottPack Hang on, let me order up the drag-bears

Dost thouh plan to blog about this?

@ScottPack Put a wig and some falsies on it and you got a deal

@WesleyDavid I'm not sure how I could make an appropriately Sec.SE blog post about drag bears.

@ScottPack Nice bear.
Those quads are a pain to stretch right.

9:22 PM
BSG is officially REALLY GOOD

@Cole No shit

Good thing I have no life lol

@Cole My wife and I knocked over all of BSG in about 2 months
We also did all seasons of 24 in about 6 months

I give the new guy a 2 weeks.

@mossy por que?

9:25 PM
@MarkHenderson I remember the good ole days of no kids. We would crank through those things. Three episodes each night, more on the weekends. Still had time to clean the house and go on hikes.

afternoon gents.

@ScottPack Sigh...

Did the site get a new style-sheet?

@MarkHenderson Those were the days....

@sysadmin1138 a little
buttons are bolder and some dialogues are missing the red border

9:28 PM

One of the buttons came right up and called me a rude name. I was rather put off.

@Cole eh. it's the guy that set the youtube account to 1 year of age and in return banned the clients google account.

I officially hate IE...

@MattBear What took you so long?

I thought we were all done with marking questions as OT simply because they could be answered somewhere else?

9:30 PM
@mossy doh

This Q sucks, but it's not necessarily OT: serverfault.com/review/close/54330

@MichaelHampton It never bothered me before, cause I diddnt use it...

@Adrian some slip through

now, sharepoint...

@Adrian He's a bloody user, not an admin.

9:32 PM
@Adrian that one is shared hosting though so OT

apparently now, if you open up an IE page during a presentation, you need an IE CAL for every person in the room.

IE CAL? WTF is that?

To client "Your mail is perfectly fine. There's nothing we should change. This is clearly a Kroger issue."

@MichaelHampton Can you point out where in our FAQ that we require that the poster be the sysadmin?

I
Just
mind = blown

9:34 PM
@Cole hows this for mind blowing... they are all robots!!!

@Adrian Hm, ask Iain. It's been discussed pretty extensively on meta. We simply aren't generally able to help "users" effectively (even if this particular question might be an exception).

Oh taht wasnt about BSG

> Server Fault is for Information Technology Professionals needing expert answers related to managing computer systems in a professional capacity.

it was about work

@Cole how do you get your mind blown?
would that be like a brainjob

9:35 PM
@Iain And I've had to deal with that exact same problem in a professional capacity.

Hi Cole,

TDI is updating the AD information from SAP and Lotus Notes. Things like First Name, Last Name, email, department, location, etc. Just a little nervous if TDI does something we don't plan on it doing, we could really mess things up. Any way to take a backup/export of all the user accounts including password information and then reimport if things were to go wrong? Just trying to be cautious so open to any suggestions.
I. Want. To. Cry.

@ewwhite Good man. Tell it like it is.

Like,
flko;gjfslkd'l;vsd;dsfsd;lkjf;lk;
That's my boss.

@ewwhite Hey, the Kroger sysadmin called me an idiot..

@WesleyDavid Client: Unfortunately they're not going to change anything and they are our biggest customer and we need to communicate with them.

9:37 PM
@Cole That's what causes drinking on the job. But I've fielded that kind of question before.

@sysadmin1138 I told him we need to do a System State backup of AD.

@ewwhite I hear that line so often I hate it. I got cold chills just hearing it then.

he came back with that, when I inquired what TDI changes in AD.

@ewwhite Yikes - well now this is a pickle.

I mean, if the recipient won't whitelist my customer... or at least fix their mail system, what am I supposed to do?

9:39 PM
@ewwhite One of these days we will be the biggest client and we won't change anything and someone else will want to communicate with us

@Cole So they're not generating "undo" scripts or even logging which changes are made to AD?

@Cole Yeeaaah. We did something almost exactly like that at $oldjob (a university). We wrote the data import process so were less afeared of hinky-shit breaking things.

@Cole .csv export, if need be, import, and set all passwords to "thebossisadouche"

@Cole This is where I usually tell them "your shit can't touch AD until you prove it in a development environment, and you damn well better log every bit you touch"

@ewwhite Just keep nagging any IT contacts that you can and CC your client on them.

9:39 PM
@sysadmin1138 but password information?!

@Adrian they also fail the tests here meta.serverfault.com/a/3397/9517

This is happening this weekend.

@Cole Just go check the post-it note at the user's desk.

or... clone ad over to a RODC

@ewwhite You let management deal with it: "Hey, Kroger CEO, some one of your sysadmins is refusing to fix your email system..."

9:41 PM
@Cole THAT we didn't touch. But we did import all the address-book information including name-change stuff (but not account name).

I want to respond with "I'm high on Vicodin right now, but even I know that this is the stupidest fucking thing ever"

@Iain And I still think that it's utter bullshit that the rules are opaque to the participants. If it's not in the FAQ and easily discernable to new users, it shouldn't be enforced.

@Adrian shrugs

@ewwhite I've had the exact same problem with some regional ISPs in the US. One client has mail constantly rejected by Bresnan, an ISP in the mountain region. I can only make sure my client is rock solid with their sending infrastructure, SPF, DKIM, etc. and then take each rejected email on a case by case basis.

@sysadmin1138 oh and that's SIMPLE enough to do, I have no problems to doing that. but for 4000 users may suck ass.
but password information

9:42 PM
@Cole The big risk is that it'll scrozz the security principles in a way the end users find incomprehensible.

@Iain If nobody cares, I guess I'm done.

No need for a password backup.

@sysadmin1138 I think just doing a system state backup of AD would be the best, no?

@Cole Yeah, that's what it's there for.

why doesnt he create a VM DC, sync, then disconnect the VM from the network, and do his testing in there...

9:43 PM
@ewwhite In those cases I just track down any kind of contact I can find for the email system, or abuse, or support, or whatever. I keep nagging until I get a response and then track down who to talk to. I then save that address and keep bringing it up with them until they block me.

then prior to deployment, have a new VM replica spun up, disconnected, that way if shit goes south, downtime = 0

@MattBear what did we do before VMs?

@voretaq7 extra hardware

@MattBear mmhmm, so "nothing"

@voretaq7 Old, crappy hardware.

9:45 PM
@sysadmin1138 that's worse than nothing

@voretaq7 But it was a hell of a lot more affordable than buying new just for testing!

@WesleyDavid It's just shameful for a company...

@sysadmin1138 I need a new I7 extreme, 16gb of ram, SLI video cards, 3 30" screens, sound blaster fatality, raid SSD drives, and a blue ray burner
for "testing"
visual studio... installed
finally
I keep pulling wife aggro :-/

@MattBear How why what?

she doesnt understand why I have to stay after hours all the time...

9:59 PM
@MattBear tell her "Because money"

doesnt get the concept of working on servers outside of business hours
shes trying to make it either my career or her...

So, @ewwhite, it looks like they're now leaning pretty strongly toward Dell for these servers, based on price. How much cheaper would a... sane... build be?

do domain transfers between registrars really take 5-7 biz days now? I don't think I've ever waited this long before.

@HopelessN00b HP Renew!
@TheCleaner I've had it take about that long the last time I did it two years ago

@WesleyDavid Yeah, even with that, and Ed giving a good price (2k less), it's not enough. I do prefer Dell, but would like to avoid a mixed environment if possible. We have way too many other problems to deal with that right now:

10:11 PM
@WesleyDavid Took me like 2 hours

@HopelessN00b o rly?
@HopelessN00b Hmm... Let me price one up.
I mean, $2k on a server is a good cost savings.
Riiiight?

Q: Dcpromo run as Local System in Server 2008

Punkster812I am trying to have a service running on a Windows Server 2008 R2 be able to execute dcpromo in order to join and remove AD. In Server 2003, I was able to simply use Process.Start() in C# and provide the path to dcpromo and the path to the answer file provided by a user. However, in Server 2008,...

Service starting DCPromo??? Mah brains hurt.
Of course they were nicely squishy before I read that,.

10:29 PM
@MattBear Dude that sucks... But who makes more? :P

@sysadmin1138 WHUT?!

@Tanner I do... by about 4x lol

Yeah forget that.

@MattBear like I said, tell her "Because MONEY"
(you can also say "Because MONEY, Bitch!" but only if you do it in Aaron Paul's Jesse Pinkman voice)

Hell if I made 4x what my wife did she'd just stay in the kitchen all day and be happy about it.

10:43 PM
@voretaq7 So, is Walter going to die by the end of the season?

@MarkHenderson idunno, I'm not watching
I get very frustrated waiting for the plot to advance
so after the season is over I'm just gonna watch the whole thing again

Haha I do that sometimes too
Only problem is I'm officially caught up now and I don't want to have to wait

Plus really half the reason I'm still watching is 'cuz Aaron Paul is hot and the comedic value of Malcom's dad being a psycho meth dealer

@voretaq7 I saw him in another movie the other week too (no, not Total Recall) and i was like "Holy shit it's Malcom's dad. No wait it's Walter White, no wait..."
He's... versatile

@MarkHenderson he's been in a lot of shit but I never really noticed until after Malcom

10:48 PM
Argo, that's right
He was the CIA guy

yesssss

@ewwhite Oh, for sure, but from what I'm hearing, switching to Dells is saving even more (and I'm sure that's related to us switching our desktops and laptop to Dell). The bright side of that, though, is that we're not restricted to exact same hardware, so I might be able to sell the idea of a sane HP build, if it's cheap enough.

@voretaq7 Leezard Gallery - You're welcome. (No wanking though)
This picture is so cute it gave me a brain tumor then cured it:

awwww!

11:06 PM
@HopelessN00b arrrgh... okay
The BEST bet is to go with a 2U box. Rack or no rack, it's the cleaner choice.

Well, my future plans just got crushed

@ewwhite No problems with that from me.

@Jacob What happened?

@Jacob Get busted stealing a car with drugs in the trunk?

@MDMarra Not that bad

11:13 PM
Then you're good

@MarkHenderson If you know anything abut American higher ed

@Jacob I don't know what AM Higher Ed is, but I'm assuming it's something to do with university/college?

whoops
anyhow

I know it's expensive

I worked in higher ed for 4 grueling years
what's up

11:15 PM
I was going to go to community college get an Associates degree then switch to a 4YR and get a bachelors and beyond
It's an AAS degree meaning unlikely to transfer

@Jacob So go to community college for your core crap (english, math)

So go to another CC?

and study the cool/important shit when you get to the 4yr school

Plenty of them are feeders into larger schools in the area that have guaranteed credit acceptance

Think I decided on getting my BS in Management of Info Systems degree

11:17 PM
Like Montgomery County Community College feeds into Temple University here

@Cole This is what I want to do... I don't want to roll through CS -_-

@Cole That's the degree I have

@voretaq7 I think that's what I will end up doing; I should be able to get a few transferable computer classes in hopefully

@Jacob don't even bother

@MarkHenderson figure it'll satisfy the "degree requirement"

11:19 PM
concentrate on the core academic shit that you have to do
and just make sure you don't screw yourself on residency requirements at the 4yr school

@voretaq7 why?

@Cole It's pretty easy to cruise through

Nothing worse than having Public Speaking, History 151, and Music 201 as your last three classes because you put your gen eds off until the last semester :)

@Jacob because that shit is kerspensive if you do it at the 4yr school
spend the money on the classes you're really interested in

@MarkHenderson figured it would be.

11:21 PM
What value does an associates level degree hold?

Not much

@Jacob depends on the degree and what you want to do

I'd rather hire someone with a few nice certs over a 2 year degree

"not much" is a pretty good assessment though

@Cole what I assumed

11:22 PM
@MDMarra what about a few nice certs and a BS degree lol

@MDMarra I'd rather hire someone with experience over someone with any degree, or any certs that aren't from Cisco

Obviously much better
@voretaq7 depends
Two equally qualified candidates - the one with the degree is getting the job
Or, at the very least, the one with the degree is getting past HR

I figure by the time I do my BS I'll have that, 9-10 years experience and who knows what certs at the time.

@MDMarra yes, but how often do you see two equally-qualified candidates?

@MDMarra Yeah I'm a public speaking class away from finishing my program. Have been for nearly a year >_>

11:24 PM
@MDMarra woord!

word?!
@voretaq7 We just chose between two that were very close

@Tanner Just do what my public speaking prof advised - open your speech with a shocking announcement to the audience

They both had the same degree though

(she told us she was a lesbian. Nobody even had the decency to pretend we were surprised)

So not exactly what we're talking about

11:25 PM
well if they have identical credentials and degrees there's only one solution.
Knife fight in the parking lot.

@voretaq7 The only shocking announcement I'd be making is that I've had far too much vodka to legally be seen in public, because that's what it's going to take to get me up there.
@voretaq7 hahaha

@Tanner well if you announce that YOU'RE a lesbian maybe people will pay attention

That would be fantastically confusing.

@voretaq7 We went with the guy that didn't say that sometimes he doesn't think things through and upgrades things that breaks other things

@Tanner that's the point of the shocking announcement :-)
@MDMarra so you went with the better liar -- good deal

11:28 PM
How shocking? "I eat my boogers when nobody is looking", or something more/less extreme?

@voretaq7 You mean the one that interviewed better? :)

@MarkHenderson idunno, her example was pretty awful
@MDMarra yeah, the better liar

@voretaq7 His specific example was that he upgraded exchange without a project plan and it broke apps that they had integrated with exchange for scheduling
This was a guy that worked for philly gas and water

How did he bring that up?

He just kinda blurted it out

11:31 PM
@MDMarra yeaaaaaaahhhhhh
so this was his first job interview, and he was like 22?

@voretaq7 "I sit on public toilets without wiping the seat first"

@MarkHenderson US public toilets, or aussie public toilets?

@voretaq7 I think they're bad everywhere

@voretaq7 He was in his 30s I'd guess and had a few jobs beofre that one

@MarkHenderson Yeah but I didn't realize the bush had seats

11:32 PM
Looks like a seat to me

oh you aussies

I have one of the latter ones personally
But with a deeper hole

Just thinking, kinda bums me out I didn't transition in my early 20's, or even before that. Wish I knew/could of/etc. I feel like I've lost so much time

@voretaq7 are aussies all rednecks?

@Cole How old are you now?
@freiheit No, but I'd wager 50%

11:35 PM

@MarkHenderson 26.

@MarkHenderson The flowers are a nice touch.
@MarkHenderson So in that kind of outhouse, there would be two kinds of brown snakes to watch out for.

Anybody know where I can find some good reading on Windows deployment? I've got a thick image and a WDS server, but now I can't figure out how all the rest of the pieces fit together.

@WesleyDavid And since it's Australia, both are highly venomous and/or poisonous?

@HopelessN00b I checked
@HopelessN00b a proper server is a DL380 G7. Search HP #583966-001
under $9k with VSphere licensing.

11:41 PM
Do you guys put your address on your resumes?

@Cole Yes

@MDMarra what about when trying to relocate?

@Cole yep
@Cole yep

@Cole Sure, why not?

@MDMarra just worried they'll be like "ummm"

11:43 PM
They need to know where to send the offer letter, right?

@Cole You lived in a shitty part of town? GET OUT
>letter
>not email

@MDMarra true
@JoelESalas I actually live in a very nice town lol
in a very good part of town, too
Recruiter told me to put my location as GA on Dice and Monster so recruiters will start calling me for jobs in ATL
@MDMarra did you see what my boss wrote back to me about AD backups earlier???

nope

@ewwhite Alright, I'll see what I can do with that, and get back to you by the end of the week.

Thanks
Mike
-_-
I responded with "Just do the System State backup with Windows Backup. I gave Chris step by step instructions." He hasn't responded yet.
This is why we need a test environment.

hahahaha
sobs It's true though
eww muscle spams in my arm. I got a SUPER painful muscle spasm in my right pec yesterday, I wanted to vomit.

@HopelessN00b hustle!

So I'm redeploying my test enviroment... Its Cole's production network...

Speaking of, @Cole, you were right about the burpees. My pecs and back are rather sore.

@ScottPack worth it, but yeah

11:59 PM
tick-tock... end of day

@ewwhite Oh, I will, but there's only so much I can do when the rest of the organization moves at a glacial pace.
