Sup
@WesleyDavid nah, not a mod. Planning on standing next elections
IM ON A PLANE
@Cole Did you bring snakes?
I knew I forgot something
Except the one in my pants. Just kidding that's like an earth worm
I'm ready to be home
O_O
00:22
Fun fact: su on OS X doesn't have -c
Think I'm gonna nap for the next hour
Later
see ya
@MDMarra really
hmm
@MDMarra no need!
I think I need to review why one would use su over sudo again
00:25
@ewwhite Oh, I know there's no need
@mossy What if the sudo program is not installed
But most OS X terminal utilities are BSD ports, right?
On OS X?
Yeah
oh nvm

Wow, that many?

-I is specified.
Nice. I wish I knew that one before
Woo! "Visited the site each day for 30 consecutive days. "
I had 102 last month until I missed a day
> 1177 days, 794 consecutive
(that's just stoopid)
00:33
Alright i get it
Stick with it, kid. You'll turn out just like us.
On the other hand, run. Run fast and run far.
I want to be like @WesleyDavid when I grow up.
2
@mossy No son, no you don't
5
Let me tell you about @WesleyDavid
The calls for the day have stopped... that was one full day of work.
@ewwhite On to the side work!
00:36
1. He used to be into science, and then he dropped that to persue other interests. Not a good move.
2. He still harasses @voretaq7 for a video of a lizard masturbating
3. He lives in the desert. I'm all for hot temperatures, but the desert is pushing it.
@MDMarra no, configuring firewalls to allow my new data center access to my client sites.
Oh yeah and 4. He's always asking you to pimp out our Australian friends to him
lol
@MarkHenderson You know you'd do it if you could.
@ChrisS If I had good looking female friends that I could pimp out, I would totally pimp them to myself first
00:41
Someone in this chat told me that buying these MX cherry blue switches was a bad idea.
And leave him with my sloppy seconds
I don't know who it was but, you were right.
@mossy You did it anyway and they were shit?
Jan 9 at 18:32, by Chris S
@mossy I'm sure the Blues would be fun for a nostalgia keyboard, but not for serious use.
...
You were right.
These things are LOUD
It was cool for a week
00:44
@MarkHenderson They're not shit... They're just loud when you can get the same tactile feeling without the noise.
Blue have apparently been studied and found to be the best for extended typing... Like a transcriptionist.
I can't really get used to them.
I'm using a scissor keyboard right now.... I dislike it for typing, but it's hard to find a laptop with anything else.
This on is also 90% normal size... Some people like that, less travel between keys. I'm not a fan as I've got fat fingers.
That's what I bought.
The hardware is great
but the TICK TICK TICK TICK could drive someone mad
@mossy I thnik I have an old AT keyboard somewhere that goes TAK TAK TAK TAk when you type on it
It was awesome
00:52
the cherry blue based keyboard I use is not much louder than my logitech membrane keyboard
And then Honeywell came along and made such beautiful, quiet, nice keyboards to use... and then BAM. Bankrupt.
and quieter than the no name cheapie I had at the same time
I think I'm going to try the browns.
So, because "I know computers" I'm currently searching for stock photos of the new iMac to use in a brochure. Every. Single. iMac. Photo. is either head-on or rotated clockwise. But PC's are either head-on or counter-clockwise.
Why?
@MarkHenderson Think Different.
00:59
If you drove one of these you'd understand.
@mossy w.t.f?
>.>wut
So, I just get an SMS from my wife "Probably going to get my period tonight. lol sucks to be you"
This is my life now.
Where did I go so wrong?
:(
@scoe
@ScottPack - that's what you do in there? I'd be doing something totally more nafarious
01:02
@MarkHenderson Not a whole lot of nefariousness to do.
Like every time my wife is in the shower and she goes "Can you throw me some underwear", well, she knows what kind of underwear I'm going to throw her
(i.e. not the comfortable kind)

Q: Setting up a cloud "backup" system

OthelloAdminSo, here's my situation: We have a file server here at the office that is used to store all of our documents, with nothing being stored on the local machines. Pretty standard, and for the most part, this works well enough. However, we have some users who have laptops, and want to be able to acc...

@ScottPack I dunno. Throw out all the big ones?
@MarkHenderson I can't say that's ever happened to me.
So, is it just me, or is there a bit of a css problem on the main sites?
@ScottPack Only happened to me once or twice
Didn't happen after then
1 hour ago, by Stack Exchange
Our CDN provider is experiencing a DNS outage, we have removed the dependency for the moment and are hosting our own static content.
01:04
Why, pray tell, would she be request undies whilst showering? Wouldn't that result in undergarment shaped wet spots on pants?
Interesting that the css is considered dynamic, but the dynamic content isn't.
How did you quote that?
@ScottPack For when she gets out of the shower
If we have people staying over or whatever
-.-
I was just taking a screenshot of it, so I could save it in an png and upload that
(we don't have en ensuite, so its one shower for the whole house)
01:06
@MarkHenderson Ah, that's unfortunate. We have two, one on the second floor for the permanent residents and one in the basement for guests.

Q: Shortcut to skip forward or backward one word at a time in terminal

babonkI use iTerm on Mac OS X and I really appreciate the Linux/bash shortcuts of CTRL-A and CTRL-E for going to the beginning or end of a line quickly. Q: VPN (PPTP with MPPE 128) + SMB2 -> plain text transmissions?

Philip AllgaierSetup: I have a simple test setup: PC (Win7) and Server (Win Server 2008) and I open a VPN tunnel between the two of them via PPTP (encrypted with MPPE 128). @TheCleaner that woman recommending split horizon DNS claims that Microsoft recommended it as a configuration in Exchange ranger training...
I'd like to see if they recommend it in Directory Services training.
01:21
Exchange ranger? Is that an archetype that allows selecting software products as your favored enemy?
-4 to exchange rolls ?
while dual wielding postfix and exim ?
More like postfix and procmail.
Haha
It's the top level Exchange certification
Above MCM, I believe
Exotic Weapon Proficiency(Outlook)
It's where you pay like 15k to Microsoft for them to lock you in a room for hours with problems that make you want to freak out and quit.
01:26
@MarkHenderson I thought you asked that question about tail for a minute
And her point was weak. It was that:

However, with so many services requiring SSL certificates these days and the new requirements for proving ownership of domains included in certificate SANs, split-brain DNS is going to become a more and more common approach.
Such bullshit
Using ad.whatever.com for your AD and getting a UCC or SAN cert that covers whatever.com and ad.whatever.com is the same exact process as getting it just for whatever.com
You just have to fill out a few more names
Bogus corner cutting
/rant
@mossy I may as well ahve, the original guys question was so badly worded I closed it as a dupe
fwiw I have no idea what the answer would be, probably something involving a lot of 3-lettered programs
@MDMarra I interviewed at Trustwave. She's correct.
01:43
@ewwhite I'm not denying that there's a higher burden of proof needed for SSL, but it's not hard to prove that you also own a subdomain of a public domain
Phaw. Just get a wildcard and be done with it.
Would you guys be upset if i ask a random HTML question
Ok good.
@mossy No, we're bored, and making fun of you might relieve the boredom. :)
@ScottPack Exchange doesn't like wildcards
<dl>
<dt lang="en-US">Color</dt>
<dt lang="en-GB">Colour</dt>
</dl>
Why give lang
01:53
@mossy I've never even seen <dt> used in the wild
@mossy because?
ul ol w\e I'm curious why someone would take time to give language there
@Zoredache Fair enough.
Perhaps you have some javascript that filters out the filters out the bits that don't apply?
@mdmarra Your mom likes wildcards.
01:54
I know
@MarkHenderson I used <dl> when it was appropriate, which was a lot more often than it actually gets used.
@Zoredache Good point. Sorry I guess I'm in a specific html css mindset right now.
From what I can tell, the lang stuff is just for metadata
So our SSL license allows us to sign an unlimited number of certs under our domain with wildcards being extra. I'm guessing that's uncommon?
It doens't actually do anything
01:56
@Zoredache Thanks.
@ScottPack At $Univeristy we had DigiCert wilds with unlimited duplicates
Each duplicate was a separate CSR so they had different private keys
It was nice
It was only a few grand a year
@mdmarra Ours is with InCommon, but yeah. Any csr for a name under us.edu is "free". Certainly handy.
It makes SSLing everything reasonable.
In other news. Katie just told me that the principal at one of her schools is Mr. Literal. Last year that same school's principal was Mr. Boring.
Could be worse. My paternal grandmother had two neighbours whose last names (translated to English) were "Born naked" and "early in the meadow"
Excellent
We don't think that's worse. Literal and Boring are already in English.
Hello Everyone! Is anyone here familiar with LV?
*LVS?
02:11
@Bruce a little.
@ewwhite: Thanks for replying. I am trying to configure LVS-Tun on Ubuntu and am facing problems with that. Do you happen to know anything about it?
@ewwhite Run away!
@Bruce naw, I don't know anything about Ubuntu.
evenin fellas
So I have setup the director and the realserver. Director uses VIP which I have configured on tunl0 as well. I have taken care of ARP problem using arptables. The trouble I am having is this: I run a wireshark trace on my realserver on interface tunl0. I see SYN packets from the clients but the realserver nevers sends a SYN ACK. Do you know why that might be?
Please tell me if you need more details...
02:16
@Bruce I suggest writing a good question. That would need a lot more detail, I think.
Ok. Let me do that.
Thanks!
@Bruce That was fast.
mwahahaha
it works!
Thats what she said. Sorry could not resist
Kindly tell me if you need more details
@Bruce Don't worry, the real experts will be along to read your question soon enough. None of us know anything. :)
02:22
hahaha...no worries....thanks!
Silly hedgehog. Go find some gold rings.
02:39
Gold badges?
You don't need no stinkin badges!
i want one
and a shiny new toaster
wait... i don't eat bread
makes that a bacon cooker
i may make some, actually
Every time I sell an item and include shipping, that guarantees the item will go to either Maine or Florida.
02:51
and where are you
@SpacemanSpiff Phoenix Arizona
cool
i may be through there fairly regularly starting in March
@SpacemanSpiff Spifftastic
@WesleyDavid Are you sayin gthat they're cheap, or that shipping from Pheonix to the other side of the country is expensive?
@WesleyDavid If we're still friends in 15 years time, I will come visit you on my disneyland trip
I can't promise to bring any single Australian girls, except my daughter (if I have one), and she would be too young for you
@MarkHenderson Expensive. =(
02:58
@WesleyDavid Sudden random thought: when you rode the "twitchy" Fuji, where were your hands?
@MarkHenderson If I don't pussy out, I'll visit you when I move to Australia.
@WesleyDavid You moving here because Obama got a 2nd term, or because we're fucking awesome?
@freiheit Hands on top, and also in the drops. Drops were more stable.
@MarkHenderson Girls.
@WesleyDavid Fair call
@WesleyDavid yeah, tops/flats will be unsteady. Drops, ramps or hoods is the way to go. Except hoods are no good on that Fuji.
03:01
@freiheit Yeahhhh my 2 year old makes up sentences too
@MarkHenderson I might be down to become an aussie too lol
@MarkHenderson hows your unemployment rates/job oppurtunities etc?]
@MattBear Unemployment in certain industries is quite low. Not that many good IT jobs around though
The mining sector is where the real money is at, but that comes with its own challenges
Like fly in/fly out, no family life, and 14 hour days 7 days a week
That kind of job better pay enough to retire after 10 years.
I just want to go somewhere where people work for a living, and the government isnt all up in your business
@freiheit It's typically 7 days on, 7 days off, but you're then cramming 2 weeks of work into 1 week, 500km from civilisation, surrounded by manly men
Although a lot of women are getting into the mining industry now, something like 35% of dump truck drivers are women now
@MattBear Eh, we're sort of like that here
We have a government that just lurves to censor though
03:10
@MarkHenderson eh never mind... how about new zealand lol
@freiheit Based on visual indicators or my testimony?
I just want to be left alone... I dunno if a place like that exists anymore
@MattBear They're even worse
For the most part they leave you alone, but if something is rated PG13 in the states, you can guarantee it will be rated M15+ here
We don't permit hardcore pornography to be sold, or produced, locally
@MarkHenderson Wow, really? No porn in Australia?
But with the internet, who gives a shit
03:15
Interesting.
@WesleyDavid Nope. Your local porn ship will sell it, but it's technically illegal
But who buys porn from a shop any more?
You get that shit off the internet
With F bombs on radio and TV and boobs too, Americans tend to think that Australia is a permissive island of nude-tastic permissivism.
@WesleyDavid Ah you're right, we DO allow that
You can only drop the F-bomb on non-commercial radio stations though
Boobs though, shit if it's after 8.30 you can hardly change channel without seeing them
Oh yeah we also only have 5 tv networks
@WesleyDavid visual indicators, like the brake being all metal, not covered in a rubber hood like modern road bike levers.
ABC (government owned), SBS (mostly government funded), 7, 9 and 10 (if they don't go bankrupt)
Oh yeah, and nobody owns a gun here
03:19
you guys have a pretty high violent crime rate too...
And if you do own a gun, unless you live on a farm, it typically stays at the gun club
How do you live without a gun?
@MattBear Oh yeah, plenty of bashings and bikie gangs
But our serial killers prefer to silently abduct before raping and burning people alive, rather than shooting them in schools
Much more civilised, you know
@freiheit Well... nobody else has them (except the hardcore crims, but you just don't go to those areas)
damn... I think I might just stay here lol
Between Australia banning gun ownership and America privatizing and seeking to imprison most of it citizenry, surely all the world's problems will be solved shortly.
@MattBear I want to know where they got those numbers from
Some of them seem off for me
e.g. police efficiency - I would have expected that to be in the 90's here
@MarkHenderson From the Department of US Homeland Truth Disseminated Abroad to all Non-Freedom Loving Wretches.
Bribes I agree with, it's a known fact that developers here just have to pay the right people to get whatever they want, and there's a high profile bribe case every few months
@MattBear Just look at the crime numbers though
Ergh, this array resync is going to take until 2AM to finish.
03:29
Murders committed by youths 88 8,226
Jails 	153 	1,558
Gun violence > Homicides > Overall homicide rate > per 100,000 pop. 	1.8802 	9.1
Gun violence > Homicides > % homicides with firearms 	16.3435 	39.5604
America is #1 in belief in police efficiency? That's a big nope.accdb transferred to my Windows 2000 FTP server with a 14.4k modem.
more research is required... but it actually looks like texas is one of the best places to move to, less crime, less government... more freedom
gtfo of california
@MattBear One problem: Texans.
@WesleyDavid Texans run a state with a lower then average crime rate, budget surplus, strong economy...
@MattBear ...doesn't matter still Texan.
03:39
@WesleyDavid George W Bush anyone?
...brb, wiping down my ESXi box with RHEV not that I'm bitter or anything. Okay I am.
@WesleyDavid why?
shit... I gotta go home!
@ewwhite ಠ_ಠ
No really...
03:41
VMware cuts my legs off, then expects me to say "how how" when they say jump. MFers and their licensing.
subpar product... RHEV is expensive, too.
And by RHEV I mean CentOS and oVirt. =P
Weak.
But yeah, their ground level package for three two-socket nodes is like $3k.
But at least I can use it UNLIKE VMWARE. >:-[
You're the only one stopping yourself from using VMware.
03:43
@ewwhite If their license won't support me, their support organization won't support me, so they don't have my back at any turn. I'll always be under the gun, having to hide what I'm really doing, not being able to use any official logos on my marketing pages. It's too much hassle.
Vmware doesn't want me, fine. I guess I'll have to wait until I get rich enough to handle their monthly points-to-dollars VSPP system.
Make your clients buy their own perpetual licenses...
don't become a hosting provider.
1) I don't have clients, really, in that sense. Just two that keep me afloat while I either try to get more (failing miserably) or pivot to some other work.
2) I am a hosting provider. That's my deal.
I thought you were targeting managed services...
@ewwhite But there's a lot of hosting with that.
And managed services is along the lines of #1 above, which for some reason I either get the "HALP my laptop is slow and needs a clean up!" requests out of the blue, or a big business wants to talk until they find I don't have, like, EMC or Cisco clustered Catalysts experience.
Just today I got a quote request through one of the online business directories I'm a part of. Dude couldn't get IE 10 to work and it had no internet connection or something. I'm thinking - how did you even find me? You see my business listing, I mention no where on there about help desk support or laptop repair.
04:14
And you won't do that work?
If I was starving I might do desktop support for a while. Though dumpster diving for food would probably be more pleasant.
Whaaaa

Q: Can I watch live TV over wifi

Mark EvansI my city, my laptops wifi shows a wifi access point secured with wpa. And can be seen in any region of city. SSID is citychannel which is cable tv network in my city. as this wifi is available everywhere, is it possible to watch tv over wifi if I have password

I know it's closed, but still...
04:32
yawn
@ewwhite I'd lose money. Gas to get there, 4 hours time, I'd end up maybe making $10 or $20?
It's $10 I didn't have before, but is it worth it? These are people that are like "Fix my laptop for $50 because Geek Squad."
And they're 40 miles south in Chandler. I don't know how it happens, but every contact I get, even if it's BS "install laptop RAM for $25" work, they're usually 30 miles or more away.
The warhorse car I have? 8 miles to the gallon.
And its resale value is less than a nice Specialized. =P
And it's not really mine.
@MarkHenderson Hold me.
@WesleyDavid Cuddles for my snugglepie
I swear to god, if my wife ever leaves me your asshole better sew itself shut
lol
@MarkHenderson You make more money than me. For now!!! :cackles:
@MarkHenderson I dunno if I want an insta-family. She'd have to leave your son with you.
Were this any other group of people, this conversation would be highly controversial.
@WesleyDavid I can totally be a toy-boy... if you're interested in feeling ripped off
04:43
@MichaelHampton I have friends that dumpster dive for food - they know when the stock rotations are at supermarkets.
And there's no way my wife would leave the kid with me
And wow they make out with crazy amounts of prefectly good food.
Like, hundreds of dollars worth.
@MarkHenderson Awww.
Much as I like my tandem...
@Ward Kinky.
04:46
Oh wait, bike?
There are sometimes logistical issues
@Ward Excuse me sir but you have a car on your bike.
For both types of tandem...
@Ward You absolute fuckface. Taking up two spaces for your goddamn bike
Works better with a bigger vehicle
04:48
I would kick you in the nuts if that was my apartment block
@MarkHenderson Whilst you two fight... I can make inroads with the misses rubs paws together
@MarkHenderson I'd run you over with my tandem, then get my kid to kick you in the nuts. Then I'd explain I was only parked there while loading the tandem...
@WesleyDavid You would go for your friends sloppy seconds? At least you asked permission first.; And the answer is "fuck off and die"
I don't understand when I see an IT position that has a mandatory drug screening. Don't they know what it takes to work with users?!
04:50
@Ward How old is your kid?
@MarkHenderson I would, and you're welcome, and okay. =(
@WesleyDavid Let me rephrase. You can have a crack at my wife if I get to have a crack at your mum and your sister at the same time.
8, and she's got an awesome kick
@MarkHenderson As long as I don't have to hear or see it.
@Ward Hmm. Too bad. My son is only 2.5, I was thinking we could make them fight it out for us while we drink a beer
04:52
Except I'm an only child so would the neighbor girl work? She just turned 18.
@MarkHenderson Oh and this is Ward's son on the right:
@WesleyDavid Hmm, doesn't quite have the same emotional trauma for you as knowing your mum and sister had a threesome together
Much like Chuck Norris in "The Ultimate Showdown"
@MarkHenderson You saw that Jerry Springer too, huh?
04:54
Nope but I know it's a whole new genre of porn, except it's typically step-mum and step-daughter. Cos you know, obscenity laws and all that
@MarkHenderson Australia would outlaw the simulation of mom-on-daughter?
Forgive me, but is this not one of the creepiest nights of conversation we've ever had?
(Night for me, anyway)
I'm 6/8 correct on this quiz im taking and i have no idea how
@mossy Twist: It's a quiz on copraphelia.
04:56
wish i wasn't so fuckin smart all the time
@WesleyDavid Now that we're twitter friends I can show you pictures of my lunch and stuff. It'll be good times.
@mossy Isn't that supposed to go on Instagram?
Yeah I guess.
I signed up on teamtreehouse.com - It's pretty great so far.
05:13
Frickin' frick CentOS, your documentation only goes to 5.5?

@Mahnax Quite right, old boy.
@WesleyDavid Good show, old chap.
@WesleyDavid nothing changed
@Mahnax Pip pip and Posh spice, I say, what.
05:16
@WesleyDavid Tarry, I say, and doublequick.
@Mahnax Forsooth.
@WesleyDavid Prithee.
OK, I'll bite. Why is everything crazy here?

markdown-ate-my-baby ?
Bad markdown, bad! Down, mark! Down!
@Mahnax Are you a SysAdmin, praytell?
@WesleyDavid I don't think so.
I'll ask my boss sometime.
Okay, spend five years managing a medium sized business that still has 10/100 hubs and has their entire 20 year customer relationship database in an Access 97 file shared on a Windows 2000 FTP server that is multi homed, is the office's internet gateway using FreeProxy 0.9b, and then field calls from the CEO to help you set up his Okidata line-feed printer on Vista x64 running on his ASUS tablet.
THIS IS WHY WE HURT INSIDE.
Markdown also punches orphans.
And John Gruber is regularly assaulted with an unconscious Mark Shuttleworth who was only moments earlier dispatched with a shovel to the face.
05:23
@WesleyDavid That sounds horrible. I hope that they upgrade the Windows 2000 FTP server to Vista soon. It would make your life much easier, I think.
@Mahnax I want to in-line-upgrade my Win 2000 FTP server to a Peechee folder.
@WesleyDavid Haha.
A good question to ask right now is "why am I eating cold barley?"
@Mahnax Did you harvest it at the proper time?
@WesleyDavid The only thing I harvest is tears. I know nothing of barley.
@MichaelHampton Aha! Block migration in RHEV is supported in 6.3 and forward, so very new.
05:28
@WesleyDavid Who isn't on 6.3
@JoelESalas Your grandma.
Call up Grandma Salas right now Joel. You can't let family keep running like that.
I'd call my grandma but she's dead. Both of them. So I'll just sit here. Alone. In the rain.

@JoelESalas Check this out: alwaysonpc.com/mobile/en Thoughts? How are they making money - what's the business model.
Well, it's been fun, but I'm off now.
cloud of smoke
@WesleyDavid Well the app costs an extortionate $20
@Mahnax kk, hurry back!
@JoelESalas Yeah - true. It's one-time though. Not recurring, so barely offsetting anything.
