Kyle said "Ah, I was just lazy and didn't put anything in"
so, I didn't want to be that douche who had an expansive "About Me" section while the other guys had two sentences of "they work here, duh"
I had mentioned I'd just wait for them to actually put legit stuff in rather than a holding page, and, well, like most things here, if it's not mission critical it likely wont get done
But secretly, I was waiting for the 1k rep :P
Didn't want a flair icon that had low rep, I have repeenis envy.
amusingly enough, I don't think I have access to change that page.
certain pages in the stackexchange network are only edited by web designers
well, I have access insofar as I could trod in there and make it happen, but protocol-wise I think I have to ask one of the other guys here to make a change.
though, the x220 sored me on lenovo support. Had a broken USB port. took em 4 weeks to realise it was insured and i just had to pay a deductable, and i somewhat felt i was jerked around
@MDMarra: get a thinkpad keyboard. best of both worlds ;p
When I wan't to connect to a client this is the way I have to take: Laptop -> Terminal server in our admin domain -> Terminal server client -> Target server
@MDMarra They've mostly buyed dell gear here aswell, but the technical operations manager is quitting (and im getting that position).. trust me, within 3 years this is a HP-only shop :P
desktop wise, i build anything we use myself (which is rare). At the moment we have... what.. 2 desktop systems, 2 mini itx, two more i can pull for parts ;p
I read through a few days of transcripts and thought about this issue a bit. It seems to me that there is much confusion about some basic chat room governance issues, the clarification of which (from On High?) would probably help move this question towards resolution.
I'll list a few fundamental...
@pauska script are the basic level that also captures what you do to your machines, it is (albeit not a good one) a method to capture your config in a document(=script)
It's easier to say "When new guy is hired, run 'provision_stuff.cmd <username>' to set their permissions and generate their home share directories with all the right security'
@PeterGrace Well ok, I can admit that creating a user here is a tedious task at times, but thats only because they're cheap and wont let me buy signature generators and stuff like that
@jscott Dissapoint sure, I don't script, but as a good programming, scripting is no big deal for me. Y U NO is because everything that needs to be automated is automated in one way or another so I don't need to script anything. Half of what I do is "ZOMG ITS BORKED PLZ HALP" and getting this place into the year 2000
@jscott I bet... I will eventually start digging deeper, but I'm sort of falling into a desktop support role here, so I'm not needing to script as much.
