10:02 PM
ahhh
that blows ... that came out before i needed to destroy it automagically ... good luck!

@Zypher thanks.
I think the network errors I'm having is preventing GPO pushout to my win7 clients for the PS script (It flat out doesn't work on XP)
I got the script to work on one client, but it wouldn't run on the client sitting right next to it.

cannot find file..WTF?!

@BenPilbrow I like your editing script - can you make it highlight changes in edit mode too please ?

@Iain Where do you mean in edit mode - the preview box?

10:20 PM
@BenPilbrow in normal view mode it shows me what it thinks should be changed. When I click edit it all disappears - I'd like to see the script's suggestions there too

You mean like that?

I think so

@BenPilbrow I ran that on XP by the way. Haven't got over to 7 yet. Will shortly

@Iain I'll have a think. Hopefully it should be relatively simple to borrow functionality from other parts of the script and apply it there too

(y)

10:31 PM
@BenPilbrow same error on Win7

Ack that's crazy - it uninstalled Skype on my machine!
Sorry, I'm afraid I really am stumped now
I loathe VBScript/Visual Basic in general, and it's probably doing one of those weird things it does that is supposedly intentional

What's weird is where it is supposedly erroring out...

The WshShell.Run bit, right?
Hmm I wonder if you need to qualify "MsiExec.exe"

yeah. How would that look?
Oh, you know what....? Let me look at something.

10:42 PM
Same error

Gah
How are you running it?
Just double clicking it or running it by cmd?

just as a vbs script on the desktop as administrator
I tried both

OK, I don't think it will make any difference, but try cscript IHateVBScript.vbs /nologo

how's that again?
from the command line?

Using this one does it print out an uninstall string?
Yeah, open up cmd and type in that
Erm, cscript /nologo IHateVBScript.vbs ..... not what I put above :/

10:47 PM
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Essentials\setup.exe /x /s for your echo script
Oh, then it error'd out
on the second return
Input Error: Can not find script file "C:\Users\administrator\IHateVBScript.vbs"
I think it has something to do with
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Essentials\setup.exe /x /s
MsiExec.exe /I{95C9C76F-ECF3-40FA-94F8-5DDFB6BAF40D} /s

Yeah, I'm just doing a quick mod
I will get one of these buggers to work!

echo 1 came back with C:\Pro~... and the second one errored out Line 28 char 4

That's the MsiExec one, right?

yes

Same "can't find file" error?

10:53 PM
yep

Did it work with %Windir%\System32 prepended

the last one we tried?

Yeah

no, error

10:58 PM
I took out everything past wscript.echo UninstallString. It only returned once. Maybe it's not getting the uninstallString?
@BenPilbrow no error with what you just gave me, but I don't see Msiexec running, but it hasn't quit yet either...

Did the script drop back to the command line? I told it to wait for UninstallString to finish executing before returning
Ah shite, I left "Skype" as the tester in that one
Just flip the single quote on Skype and MSSE

yeah, did that as you mentioned it and ran it. hasn't dropped out yet
still running...

Heh, I don't know if that's good or bad :P

hehe

I usually use process explorer to look at the command line

11:09 PM
Hey guys I'm having an issue with a mod_rewrite... It seems to be messing up the php $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] variable. The var_dump seems ok, but it gives me weird behaviors when I try to compare it with other strings. As if the characters weren't what they seem, some kind of encoding issue? Does that ring a bell for anyone?

don't know php, sorry

I think it's an apache issue, linked to php though

@BenPilbrow procexp just shows it sitting there. Not doing anything
don't know apache either

haha ok

did you ask a question on the main site?

11:13 PM
Oh. I assume MSSE is still installed then?

I haven't yet
Thought I'd ask here if it rang a bell with anyone

You'll get a faster response posting a question there. But it is Friday after noon

I'll give it a try

@Enkay, you're going to get much more exposure on the main site. There's like 3 people here at the weekend. Thousands see the main site :)

@BenPilbrow yes

11:14 PM
haha alright
I tried over at stackoverflow yesterday
but didn't work out, thought I'd ask the sys admin crowd

No worries
This is more of a hang out than real online support

ok

Friday evening, rather. Man what a day

@Holocryptic if you have process explorer running and run the script from cmd, do you see it fire off another uninstaller program (MsiExec or the standalone setup.exe)?

thanks for the tip
later!

11:18 PM
Later @Enkay

crap, hang a tic
huh. It dropped out this time
but it's still installed
I don't see it spawning either
@BenPilbrow yeah, nothing.

Hmph

indeed

I'm really starting to run dry with the ideas now

hrm
well, I should probably head home in any case. I'm going to try and poke at it this weekend. If you have a bright idea, hit me up
add me to skype, even

11:25 PM
very funny :P

heh. But I was being serious
erik at egumbel dot com
Which reminds me, I'm supposed to skype with my mom on Sunday
(she's in Holland)

Can she actually work skype?

hehe. I had to show her when I visited last October
Once you show her how to work it, she's usually fine

I am very entertained when my mum tries to just use the internet. I can't even imagine what hilarity would ensue if I tried to show her skype!

It all started with a crappy webcam she was trying to install
I said screw that, just use skype
minus the webcam
the thing was ancient

11:29 PM
My Mum still insists on going to google and typing the URL (including www and .com) into the google search box and doing it that way. sigh

hahahaha

I know. I'm pretty sure she thinks the address bar (clue's in the title, Mum) is exclusively for putting www.google.com in so she can put the actual URL in Google's search box :(
That's the bit I don't get though. She types google.com into the address bar, but refuses to put any other addresses in it

but what if it's .net or .org or something? Then you get scary 404s or redirects!

I got rick-rolled on a 404 page the other day. Wasn't amused by that stunt!

oh .. that gives me ideas

11:35 PM
That's funny
I'll have to get drunk so my Dutch functions
If I'm not drunk I think too much about it, and get my Dutch and German mixed up
Right, I'm pushing off for home. The dog will have pee'd and poo'd everywhere, and I'll need to feed the cat.
catch ya'll in a bit

Sounds lovely :P catch you later

Boobity Boobity Boobity
