See, I get the same behaviour from SU ... until the image reaches viewport width, at which point it stops increasing size.
The image you picked started small enough that it doesn't hit viewport width at max zoom.
If you force a smaller viewport ... it causes horizontal scrolling.
That's really all it's about; whether images should be allowed to overflow the container.
With browser zoom implementation, to the site there's no difference in viewport size between a large display zoomed in and a small display. So if you try to "optimise" for the large viewport with zoom, you end up with horizontal scroll by default for anyone with a smaller screen. Not nice at all.
I've said it before, the only way to get the behaviour you want is for the browser to treat zoom differently.
Try your same test with a larger image.

also, the situation with IGPs is fun
Before sandy bridge, and AMD's APUs an IGP is a seperate chip on the motherboard, connected to the same bus as the video card port
so it was one or the other, and using a discrete video card would completely and automatically disconnect the onboard video
with SB or IB there's a specific setting (which carries on to newer intel cards)
Not sure how AMD does it
But you could, say, find a intel board with onboard s3 or nvidia graphics
