I pretty much followed that ^ progression and stopped at enterprise-y routers (ubiquiti) after a few years on custom firmware (dd-wrt). don't see much value in going to pfsense with the additional fiddliness. YMMV.

@Ave I think the traditional solution has been to have the vdsl bit in a physically separate modem :P

and just bridge it with the auth happening on the (custom) router

consumer routers are more integrated

the separation works really well for me because I have two WAPs at opposite ends of the house, that cooperate beautifully

I went to this clinic and the consultation was BRL 40 (saw the health plan slip) and they x rayed me there and then, and it was like BRL 55 and the doctor examined the results and prescribed some light medication and it was all done in less than USD 25 (of which I paid exactly zero).

I have difficulty understanding why a country like Brazil would look at the model of health care the United States has built and say, "You know what? We don't even have as much money as they do, but we want our health care system to suck just as bad as theirs!"

the only thing the US has going for it is that the standard of care is good... but actually getting proper care, especially in non-emergency situations, is quickly vanishing from most peoples' budgets.

and the standard of care is NOT world class, by any means. it's only good.
