Shell scripting is my primary language because my jobs have mainly been to maintain the thing so more specialist developers have something to run their C(++/#) things on.

Shell things were needed to enable the C things to work so the science things could run on them.

a GLib-based C REPL would be, while far less syntactically sugary than something like a scripting language or C++ or C#, still be usable and provide scripts that work fine across Windows/*NIX without hacks or platform-specific code

good string library, good file library, good network library, optional SOAP implementation, optional XML and JSON, optional graphics (GTK), etc.

The others of us who are using matrix.org, roota.cc, or Bob/CanadianLuke/Geek's server are up and running. Does your server have packet loss? Ping timeouts? Saturated uplink? 100% CPU on the Synapse process?

I mean I had 100% CPU usage on the Synapse process for an extended period of time while I was federating #matrix:matrix.org, something that is a known issue and you're explicitly not supposed to do until they fix some bugs, and I was still able to reliably chat in #ra...
