> whenever anyone comes to you with a get rich quick scheme, it's them getting rich, not you
Telexfree (stylized as TelexFREE) is a trade name owned by Telexfree Inc, that became best known for its operations in Brazil held by Ympactus Comercial Ltda after it was involved in an ongoing investigation and trial for allegedly operating a Ponzi scheme, and later for having its operations suspended in USA by SEC under the charges of operating a billion dollar Ponzi and Pyramid schemes. Telexfree Inc. owns the rights to the Telexfree brand worldwide. The company was created by Carlos Roberto Costa, Carlos Nataniel Wanzeler and James Matthew Merrill after the change of its former corporate name...
> On April 2014, an investigation in the United States confirmed that Telexfree worked under a Ponzi scheme and handled more than $1 billion worldwide.
> The Public Prosecutor of the Telexfree case (...) and the Judge (...) have reported death and kidnapping threats after the court's decision to freeze Telexfree assets and operations in Brazil
I remember back around 2013 everyone and their dogs was sooooo excited about this amazing opportunity to get free money!
People would sell their homes and spend all their life's savings.
I need food.
3
Do you have food?
Ir lazers aren't visible by the naked eye though, unless you have some sort of night vision. I've been wanting to build me a face melting ir lazer for unexpected visitors for quite sometime
@qasdfdsaq Who the hell stars this shit?
Not I.
16:13
That was me. Sorry if this was annoying.
On mobile right now.
@ThatBrazilianGuy Do you have food?
I know I might be starring a bit, er, indiscriminately, so feel free to tell me to stop if you don't like it.
16:17
@ThatBrazilianGuy I'm confused. Do you or don't you have food?
@qasdfdsaq We all have food.
We all are food.
Food is all that is, was, and will ever be.
He who controls food, controls the universe.
Yeah I don't get what you're saying at all
Bob
Bob
@bwDraco Eh, that's fine.
Stars are there to be used.
The only time I've ever told someone to stop starring was then they starred some 20 random messages in a row, and did the same thing the next day... and the day after...
2
(...psst that was not an invitation :P)
In that case, I'd probably raise a mod flag.
Bob
Bob
@bwDraco I generally prefer to deal with things in-room as much as possible.
Asking nicely does wonders.
Owners can clear stars if it's really necessary.
We can also pseudo-delete messages apparently (not purge, but at least remove them from this room)
Jumping to "call in the mods" can escalate when all I really want is to calm everything down.
16:24
I wonder what'd happen if you moved a starred message to trash
Bob
Bob
(Of course, there are some situations where flags are a good choice ... but I consider that a last resort.)
Does it stay starred here? Does it become starred there?
Bob
Bob
*cough*
1 message moved to Trash
It's often hard to tell what should and should not be flagged here in chat, unlike on the main site.
Bob
Bob
@qasdfdsaq It gets starred there.
Whoever starred it can go check if they can un-star it :P
16:26
@Bob Heh!
It wasn't showing as my star, but when I tried to star it again it un-starred
Yay for UI glitches
@bwDraco you got to feel it
Bob
Bob
@bwDraco It's a judgement call. I can't really answer that, because I honestly have a bit more power to directly take action than you (...that I discovered today anyway), but assuming I couldn't move messages then...
If it's a NSFW onebox from someone active, I'd ask them to un-onebox first probably.
I suppose that as my temperament improves, I'll be less likely to make mistakes like this. This shows I'm still very impulsive by nature.
Feb 3 at 6:26, by Journeyman Geek
@bwDraco funny thing is? I'm an impulsive hothead by nature. That said I'm a self aware impulsive hothead :p
Bob
Bob
If it's a NSFW onebox from someone not really active (and likely to not know how to edit, or miss the 2 min) I'd consider flagging.
I still stand by my promise to not make moderation decisions on emotional impulses.
Bob
Bob
16:30
If it's an inappropriate (subjective!) comment... generally I'd stick with asking nicely.
you don't really want something NSFW here, do you?
Bob
Bob
Actually, overall, I'd say flags are more for repetitive or continued poor behaviour.
@jokerdino No, not really. But the big problem with flags is they often come with suspensions, when it's not really necessary most of the time.
It's a giant automated hammer.
I wonder what happens if someone went and flagged 50 messages in Trash
Don't try it, pls.
Beyond 50 mods turning up and going "What's going on here?" "Dunno, shrugs"
Bob
Bob
16:31
@qasdfdsaq If it's a noticed pattern? Probably a CM getting called in, and said person getting suspended.
I and all other hapless blue mods get annoyed and you will be thrown out.
Yup. Let's not abuse flags.
If it's one of the hot CM's I volunteer
Tough luck then.
Hm, I need to go check on the new additions to the CM team.
Bob
Bob
My personal policy is "try to get people to act better. if they insist on misbehaving then whack them".
Some people take the "delete it and let meta[.SE] figure it out"
16:33
Wait, only mods get alerted? I thought I read somewhere that all high-rep users get alerted
Bob
Bob
@qasdfdsaq Spam/offensive alerts all 10k users
And high-rep users get to vote on a flag, though a single mod vote overrides that
Bob
Bob
Mod flags only go to mods
Hmm, that explains why some non-mod users seem to turn up randomly when flags go off
I'vr dealt with quite a few flags. I wish the system provided at least some context inline.
Flags go to everyone on the same chat server.
Aug 1 '15 at 15:23, by DragonLord
There are three chat servers: chat.stackexchange.com, chat.stackoverflow.com, and chat.meta.stackexchange.com.

16:39
@bwDraco Do you just have a searchable database of your old chat messa- oh wait.
Has he gone into echo mode again?
@Bob he's gonna quote one of his messages again to answer you.
@qasdfdsaq we are talking about flags and flag abuse.
It's not abuse if you yell surprise first! Oh wait...
Going off Dave's suggestion I was actually tempted earlier to see how long I could go where I would write nothing and every reply would be by quoting a previous message
No thank you, Elisa.

Hello, people. Suppose I have a JPG file, which I want to use in an example, but don't want to use the actual JPG file. Now, is file run on the JPG sufficient to produce something similar?
Bob
Bob
@jokerdino I think the only thing I can do on a whim without repercussion is a bot-ban :P
16:49
02_03_2016_008_047.0.jpg: JPEG image data, JFIF standard 1.01, resolution (DPI), density 109x109, segment length 16, baseline, precision 8, 141x825, frames 3

Bob
Bob
@FaheemMitha "something similar"? why don't you want to use it? what do you mean "similar"?
@qasdfdsaq took you this long to find something to respond with?
@Bob didn't you kick off an episode for doing such a thing in the past?
@Bob Oh, I don't want to make this particular JPG public. But I want something which has the same size and resolution. If possible.
This seems like the kind of question that has already been answered somewhere...
in The Bridge, Feb 4 '13 at 15:49, by Grace Note
@fredley Not much available in these parts.
Bob
Bob
16:51
@FaheemMitha ...but you don't care about the content?
Just ImageMagick convert it to blank white?
@Bob No. Anything would be fine. As long as it is non-empty.
Bob
Bob
@jokerdino Huh? Oh, I don't mean the reaction. I meant in terms of official SE response.
@FaheemMitha ... blank white with a single black dot in the middle?
You're going to have to define "empty" too :P
Raster images don't really have a concept of empty.
@Bob The JPG is long and thin. I'm trying to split it in half lengthways, and place the two pieces side by side, and convert it to a PDF (using TeX). But I'd like a substitute to work with.
@Bob Fair enough. Random text would be fine.
Bob
Bob
@FaheemMitha So... colour gradient?
Yes, an unwelcome appearance of the Paper Clip.

@Luke they last 10 hours?!
@Bob Black text on white would be fine.
Bob
Bob
@FaheemMitha If it's a one-off, open in an image editor and just chuck a large colour gradient across it.
@Bob well, SE could ban the bot.
Bob
Bob
@qasdfdsaq Depends entirely on usage.
@jokerdino True. But that would be a massively overkill response.
@Bob Ok. I guess I could just tell GIMP to color the whole thing grey or something.
Bob
Bob
16:55
@FaheemMitha For an image, a colour gradient is literally easier than text most of the time.
Bob
Bob
@FaheemMitha I suggested a gradient cause it's easier to tell if a split/combine worked :P

@Bob gradient means a gradual decrease in shade from one end to the other?
@Bob I remember balpha banning a bot because it greeted him.
Bob
Bob
@FaheemMitha A gradual change. In shade, hue, whatever.
@Bob Yes, splitting would be easier to see in that case, true.
Bob
Bob
@jokerdino Let's not drag that back up.
16:56
@qasdfdsaq sí, senor.
@Bob Ok. Thanks for the suggestion. Would GIMP be a good choice? I'm in Linux.

I knew it. They're going to pierce the corporate veil.
Feb 28 at 22:54, by bwDraco
The U.S. government could go so far as to attempt to pierce the corporate veil and personally charge Tim Cook et al., at least on the basis that Apple's open letter to customers on this issue is attributed to Cook.
They could go so far as to put Apple, Inc. on a denied entities list. This would bring their business to a screeching halt and send their stock tumbling through the floor.
The basis for this would be that Apple is actively aiding terrorists, no matter how ludicrous this claim may be.
Feb 28 at 22:53, by bwDraco
For some reason, this Apple-FBI standoff could lead to a criminal charge against Apple. By providing encryption that cannot be broken and by refusing to backdoor iOS, Apple could conceivably be charged with providing material support for terrorism under the USA PATRIOT Act.
ya know this just displays everything we have always thought. all this STUFF in the systems has always had a backdoor. everytime 1-2 people refuse to put in the backdoor they either QUIT, or it makes the news.
My next wonder is Intel IME , NIC device that works when the hardware is in the "off" state and new "remote" program for the hardware itself.
Do i care if they want to nazi into my computer? NO, i just dont want them slowing it down :-)
Only a matter of time before the United States government charges Apple and/or its officers with an actual terrorism or related crime (including providing material support for terrorism) under the USA PATRIOT Act.
!!/wiki providing material support for terrorism
In American law, providing material support for terrorism is a crime prohibited by the USA PATRIOT Act and codified in title 18 of the United States Code, sections 2339A and 2339B. It applies primarily to groups designated as terrorists by the State Department. The four types of support described are “training,” “expert advice or assistance,” “service,” and “personnel.” In June 2010, the United States Supreme Court upheld the law in an as-applied challenge in the case Holder v. Humanitarian Law Project, but also left open the door for other as-applied challenges. The plaintiffs in the case had...

for all the people who ever said "intel,microsoft,facebook,twitter is Not spying on you your being rediculous" You were right, they are not spying on you, they are just Forced by "national security" to assist in the government being able to spy on you.
And the #1 problem which Nobody has discussed, POWER, knowing all insider information , for trading, business deals, new products. Sure they are supposed to keep it internal, but if you knew you could make 1 Million dollers, because technoink is comming out with a stock changing product, do you Sit on it?

this is why the privacy breech is "unconstitional" but does anyone use that known argument? "national security" trumps the constitution.
I think we're going to enter a state of martial law. The government could suspend the Constitution altogether.
