@Kris an alternative, but if you're seeking help on specific open source software, you're more likely to get in contact with developers or experienced users (who can help you properly) compared to around here
this channel is 30% socialization and clique chit-chat (headphones, our personal dedicated servers, our pets, or in JMG's case, himself...); 30% general help with whatever people come in and ask about; and the remainder, SE-related stuff like meta.SE post discussion, election discussion, Q&A discussion, etc.
just had a computer(computerA) restart after a powercut and not start up. I had another computer (computer B) with sublime text editor on it and loads of files open from computer A opened as m:\blah\bleh which linked dto c:\bkup\blah\bleh on compA. Now M wasnn't accessbile since comp A was down. I took the hard drive out of A and plugged it into B's USB. It connected as F. I then used SUBST to make an M drive point to f:\bkup\blah\bleh And held my breath, and sublime saw the files.
@Ramhound eh... I'll say that when I'm reasonably sure but can't test it to be 100% sure. better to give an answer pointing in the right direction than leave the asker not knowing forever

Also, when you ask about something you've tried and you say "It doesnt work.", tell people why or how it doesn't work. What results do you get, and how do they differ from what you expect?
@allquixotic oh, not much... just logind using a chrooted & bind-mounted dir, being completely impossible to kill and not showing any active sessions, making the dir impossible to umount, then hanging the entire system...
had to reboot the live env and install/compile zfs for the 500th time
This is moving the boot drive up from the bottom of the HDD list to the top.
Intuitively, this shouldn't have made a difference considering the other drives had nothing bootable on them and VMware should have just gone down the list
