under the hood it occured just like a automobile, from a simple combustion engine that worked to a nightmare of interconnected stuff , that runs just as fast, and gets the same MPG but can never be returned back to the can of worms it came from.
i liked XP a lot, but had to upgrade for hardware sake. Although if i had ever had 64bit (ability for more memory) i may have stayed with it longer.
On the other hand i also must stay "current" so that becaomes another reason to keep going into the pit of complicated messes and porer programming Method.
I have Windows 8 on my laptop, but I knew before buying it that I preferred Windows 7. I was so mad when the drivers for 8 didn't work on 7, which prevented me from downgrading.
Yea some people will keep saying "it is all still comopatable" but whatever THEY DO on the computer read e-mail go on the web and watch yousatube , they seem to be oblivious to the loads of hardware out there, and stuff you can plug in and all.
but none of this has really changed, Intel had "instruction sets" on thier processors that would speed up the world, it took about 5 years before these instruction sets were used (for the stuff needing them). but lukily they stayed.
sata express is 10G/S vrses 6, and uses the same connector, but like other things is more direct to the processor (for speed).
we get to trip over all the new technology as it evolves into a working item slowly. which would not be so bad if it then did not dissapear again.
so for OSes i far prefer the 2nd edition of them, let someone else experiment and fail, i would rather have it when solid. I assume for 8 that would be 8.1?
I like to image my system, in order to upgrade I have restore my pc back to clean image, use my slow internet to download a massive update file, install it, re-image my system, and then re-install everything to create my various image stages. It's a lot of work.
if I was familiar with what's under the hood it might seem more worth it, but for someone like me all is see is a startmenu button.
re-install, the answer to all fails :-) which would be fine if it didnt take me like 2 Weeks to get it all on there and cleaned up and tweaked off and all.
in the registry, in the appsdata , in the users folders, and strewn about in other places, even including the (toss everything there) the system32 folder with stuff that not only does not require to be there, but does not belong there.
I am putting in a new motherboard this month, one one side i am like "piece of cake just re-install" on the other side i should remember what it really takes to get the 150 thing back in there i use (some portable).
@RobinHood Microsoft more than once has told programmer to keep the registry more clean, I can tell you for sure they did not listen, including microsoft.
@RobinHood I have a Asus Hero VI (haswell 1150) and one aspect of it has died so my memory does not work right. So i am going to put a gigabyte z97ud5h thing (same basic thing) in its place.

I figure it would cost me about $2500 to do the 2011 thing to the fullest extent. get the 8core xeon thing. because I Need both single thread speed, and things i do that take time are multithreaded (like encoding).
That's the key to building. Anyone can buy the best of the best if they have the money. Building realistically means knowing enough about what you do on the comptuer to decide where you can make cuts. Sounds like you know the drill.
I was wondering if someday , some person at a electronics recycling location, would say "hey what if we could take all these old ram chips, and a li-ion battery and make something FAST out of them"
ram is so many more times faster than even 2SSDs in raid 0, but it will indeed not catch on unless we can get $300 1Terrabyte (or something) because it is recycled :-)
It's always so sad when you browse around on sites and see people trying to sell outdated FULLY FUCTIONAL ram for scraping.
I bought an old XP laptop for use as a dvd player, and it only came with 256mb of ram. I was able to upgrade it to 2GB of ram for less than $5, because old ram is so cheap to buy used.
@RobinHood i am using the samsungs EVO version with 250g the first 30 for the OS, and the rest for the "stuff that didnt need to be on the system disk" partition.
I would love to run my OS from ram. I think that's where technology should be headed, rather than nand which is just a work-around for the real problem.
I have used ramdisks quite often, now that i had 32G on the computer for long enough to realise it still doesnt much help, i was thinking of converting a full 16G of it over to that use.
for me it is the files that are about 1G work with them a bit, encoding , reading the data, checking audio and all, then eventually they have to return.
They ARE in the OSes system cache, cause i can see them in there, but (as far as i can tell) the video and audio programs are not using them direct out of the system cache?
A programmer can decide to have the stuff streamed bypassing said cache. another solution is called a "block cache", 3rd party software that instead of files, it caches blocks of the hard drive.
@RobinHood yea i mean i would work with them 4-6 times, so i would have to put them IN the ram, work with them, then send to storage. Because it still has to go back, i have not done it.
@Bob I normally wait for updates to get collected into a service pack then I install it. In this case though I'm just running XP in a vm for fun so it's not worth updating.
no i do not like nor have ever required water (to move the heat 1.2 feet ) but the right really good air cooler instead , lots of mating of surfaces and all.

I would love to get one of those mountain tents. Basically just slips over you sleeping bag as a cover, but then has poles at the front so you don't suffocate.
i keep one of them hats with the net in my pack, incase of infestation. what was worse than mosquitoes, was there were very rare areas where black flies were like a polteguist, even marked by the government to not go there.

when camping i got one of them military surplus stores, and look at some military like gear. things like "alice" packs, the whole pack kit weighs more than i bring total. gotta have things last time and rough treatments.

another thing is i am walking in HOT climate, so having insulation stuck on my back makes it miserable, with a "frame" and a mesh air travels between me and the lunk of crap on my back.
Yea they have those new not-a-taxi services now, where you fire up an android app, and some clown with a car , acts like a taxi within the laws and gives you the same ride for 1/2 that. Taxi people are pretty pissed about it, because lots of thier money is spent because of government regulations the regular person does not have.

@Boris_yo correct, plus they use only the regular insurance they would normally have, no "dispatcher" as it is handled with the App and a server (i assume)

For the most part i think that computers replacing humans in all jobs where that has occured is a Complete Disaster. for some companies it is still saving them money, because people get NOTHING! instead. no service, no help. So the unloading of your customers onto a computer has been (in some venues) just dropping all support altogether.

@Psycogeek Initially app GetTaxi on Android was glitching. Your order would say no taxi available but next hting you know, taxi driver calls you and claimes he is waiting long downstairs for you.

speaking of self-service gas, ya know those Machines that "self" serve cost some $60,000 , and around here (along with $4.50/gal gas, they replace those machines quite often with newer ones. Sooo you could say they just traded up jobs, instead of serving and talking to people, they now "work for the machines".
relitivly the work level is probably similar, the cost are probably a bit higher, the socalization is way lower, and the waste is probably way higher.
Like any "investment" in some machine it was all going to pay-off in 18.5 years of the machines operation, which is all well and good if the machines ever lasted past the warrenty, or were not obsolete so quickly for the next investment.
the Credit cards that the machines operate by , were supposed to be way superior to having your cash stolen. Now when people have thier money stolen they have to spend 2+ YEARS of thier lives to fix the problems created in the machines by the Identiy theft.
I think loosing your wallet to a mugger would be easier then loosing 2 years of your life to a total finatial disaster that gets created by the "machines" special new plastic money system.
And when todays StageCoach gets robbed it isnt the bank that looses, no half the planet is exposed via the machines database , thousands of hours lost with people having to (at least) change thier passwords.
I worked with a person on a case involving thier (extra) property worth about 100K somone just went in and messed with the computerised paperwork (as opposed to on paper deed items) and his sister was spending about 1 year trying to get the property back, all much more complicated than that, but it seemed to me nothing that a good double barrel shotgun couldnt have solved :-)
nothing was ever resolved from it yet that i know of, and the computer did hold a trail of really odd things, just not enough to confirm what had occured.
Im running QEMU within an ubuntu image (of virtualbox). This virtualbox is installed in a windows 7(host).
The problem is QEMU cannot ping the host but it can ping the ubuntu image.

It's an used iMac with OS X Mavericks.
I want to do a clean install on it, and I have already erased the disk.
I attempted reinstalling it over the Internet. But it requires Apple ID....
So I created a new Apple ID on a Windows computer.
But now using it on the Mac says that the Apple ID has not been used yet in App Store.
I installed iTunes on the Windows computer. Logged in, and tried to confirm and verify all the terms of service, bla, bla, yada, yada, yada, then it asks for a credit card.
I found that stupid "help" article on Apple support site. It explains some kind of trick on how to kill two flies in on go! By pretending to "buy" something in iTunes you can select to create the Apple ID, and then the dialog will be different from the one presented to you if you created Apple ID on their website. But it's too late for me now. I already created my stupid Apple ID on their website. And if I log in on iTunes Store it wants my credit card information.
I don't have the LUXURY of selecting "NONE".

Why does it matter if I created my Apple ID via their website, initially. Or via the iTunes store? Why are there two different dialog options depending on the what path you choose to create Apple ID?
So what now? I have to open a bank account?

This is so sick on so many levels!
Please advise, if you know any other (except the official Apple) workaround for this narcissistical mechanism? Like, can I download the OS from some place and do a clean install?
Please excuse my language and understand my frustration. I have never been so worked up over a computer problem. What's worst, this problem is constructed for me by apple, it's artificial, not created by the computer itself.
