Hmm. Some analysis by WCCFtech explains why the AMD Vega launch is delayed and will start with a workstation card: wccftech.com/…

7:36 AM
should I worry about segfaults being logged often in /var/log/syslog?
May 18 09:18:46 ip6060 kernel: [1185467.457140] Chrome_ChildThr[10298]: segfault at 0 ip 00007fe0ee3d8a83 sp 00007fe0deafe410 error 6 in plugin-container[7fe0ee3d0000+3a000]
May 18 09:29:02 ip6060 kernel: [1186084.105144] Chrome_ChildThr[10796]: segfault at 0 ip 00007f768ad58a83 sp 00007f767b3fe410 error 6 in plugin-container[7f768ad50000+3a000]
(firefox crashes but it says chrome.)

Bob
@satibel The browser chrome refers to the non-content parts of the browser. It's got nothing to do with Google Chrome.
Menus, toolbars, etc.
plugin-container is ... iffy. It was only used for NPAPI plugins (Flash, etc.) but I think e10s might use it for content processes now.

oh, ok.
seems like renewing the profile might do it.

8:14 AM
nope
doesn't do it.

morning
working from home is weird

Borning Murgi.

@Burgi I find myself more productive, sometimes

this is my first attempt

9:09 AM
Can I format a link, in a comment?
if so, how?

@djsmiley2k [description](www.example.com)

9:26 AM
@djsmiley2k Not always an option, mostly financially. Plus, back up too often and the RWare will be in the backup too. — Weckar E. 19 mins ago
He answered without a bounty! XD

@Rahul2001 Thank you. That was a good read. Very informative.
Also, me[at]rahul2001[dot][com] can still be webscraped. You obviously underestimate programmers.

@Nick No, I just have really good spam filters

scrape this, djsmiley2k@gmail.com
\o/

I don't know how to generalize this answer further. Except maybe by doing a weather forecast. superuser.com/questions/1210418/…

flag as too board

@Burgi Better still, close as too broad :)

if you have that ability
i'm getting flooded with emails about stuff breaking in the office

Because it's lunch break? :D

10:48 AM
because i'm the only one with the whole plan in my head
also people can't read
@DavidPostill this guy is doing terrible edits: superuser.com/users/598527/user598527

@Burgi the bane of IT. "the Foo has encountered a 'don't use bar' error" -> "why do I get this error?"

@Burgi Bus factor 1! \o/

i know
i've dumped loads of information in the wiki but no-one bothers to read it

@Burgi That's how you use a wiki

:)

11:01 AM
It's mostly for you. So that you can look up the information faster when people keep asking you

^^
We have a huge wiki here
for the 50+ clients
contains lots of info, and lots of crap :/
I'm slowly sorting out one or two clients pages, whom i deal with almost explicitly.
but screw the rest :D

@djsmiley2k still better than 0.

wtf
@Burgi indeed
worst, edit, ever.

@djsmiley2k done.

@djsmiley2k told you

Bob
@djsmiley2k guru3d is alright, but original source is better

Bob
@djsmiley2k Any reason you need this one in particular, anyway?

@Nick did you really email me?

Bob
hmm
idk *shrug*

11:12 AM
i might have fumbled that edit

But it was one of those "we decided we want all images to be https instead of http" edits! /s

Bob
CI link there
there's also a github repo by the same name but no releases uploaded under it
the guru3d and the german link you found are probably more stable
@djsmiley2k it's not a completely pointless edit...
jpg screenshot replaced withh png
no ugly artefacts, and smaller filesize

Hi. If I alrady have a .crt file, can I simply click on Complete Certificiate Request in IIS to add the cert?

@MyDaftQuestions The chat isn't really ideal for questions

but it is allowed...

11:15 AM
.... yes

I haven't read through all of it but it looks like it would contain that information: digicert.com/ssl-certificate-installation-microsoft-iis-7.htm

11:32 AM
Yes I did that. Certs worked. Now a new server. I need to know how I can import these certs. Is this type of question on topic here?
Or server fault

Well if you have the actual files you would just need to follow the part about binding the cert to your site.

12:15 PM
@Burgi I don't see anything obviously bad.

2 hours later…
1:46 PM
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
that feeling when one department tries to poach you
only for you to be like errr ok?
and then 2 more departments go 'oooo we want you tooooo!!!!'

you are in demand @djsmiley2k
like me on my day off working from home

2:00 PM
150€, worth it? :p
32 itaniums x64

what the hell is it?
sure
do you have the space at home?

do you have like a 2KW fuse?
XD

need to see if I can put it in the attic? :p
@djsmiley2k *7.2Kw times 2

have you asked the SO?

tbh it's prob worth more than that in scrap value tbh
tbh tbh

2:05 PM
@Burgi nah, mother's house/farm, while I buy a plot and mount a shed.

ah ok

@djsmiley2k the racks are worth 100€ each x)

i now have visions of you loading it into the back of a 2CV and driving to the middle of a vineyard
while smoking
obviously

@satibel There's your answer then.

2:08 PM
:)

actually

WAMBLANCE!

(mine doesn't have the ambulance signs.)

i got the manufacturer right

@Burgi also mine is a peugeot J5

2:09 PM
its the same company!

same truck, same manufacturer, different company/brand :p

french cars don't work in the uk

@Burgi just switch the steering wheel side.

i think its more the general hatred of the english that makes them fail...
(its actually a hangover from the late 90s when they had no money and built bad cars)

@Burgi you just need to keep insulting them
then they run out of spite

2:15 PM
lol

everybody knows englishmen use peels.

only on the isle of man

2:31 PM
Just noticed, it's the isle of man. No woman allowed?

all the men there have three legs

don't you?
@satibel that side rearcar 0_0

neither do you...

dogs have somewhat more

ALL OF THE LEGS

2:36 PM
that's technically a car with 4 wheels.
2 on the front, 1 in the middle and 1 in the back.

oh god
I think I found the worst website ever

i've seen worse

which browser?

2:43 PM
firefox

are there any excel gurus here?

the logo and the favicon is breaking SSL
but it looks normal on my FF

ah, strange
So... these guys are the landlords of my employer
Oh, I'm apparently the webmaster for my school.

2:46 PM
@JourneymanGeek rofl

Ok. That template looks like the very same one we use

Bob
yea works for me too

Bob
@JourneymanGeek so... you pulled a @Burgi? :P

there are a crap load of plugins its loading

2:48 PM
hmm
No
@Burgi yeaaaah
I wonder if its the same shitty webdev

boss need to print a sheet with 10k lines, and instead of printing a page with columns A-H, then one with I-M , he needs to make line breaks, so I1-M1 goes under A1-H1.
is there a built in way?

@JourneymanGeek Author: StylemixThemes

Bob
I like how all the flags are incorrect in different ways.
Like the completely fucked aspect ratio on half of them.

Bob
And how France isn't even a flag.

2:50 PM
Tempted to post where I work actually

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Are you sure you want to be associated with them? :P

@Bob IKR? French flag is white.

lol
@satibel and a bit less french shaped. easier to see that they're surren.... OH YOU ARE FRENCH AREN'T YOU?

@JourneymanGeek I am.

@JourneymanGeek do it briefly then nuke the url

2:52 PM
^actual flag.

Just to note. For god's sake, make up a clever nick and stick to it
@Burgi got it?

yes
its loading VERY slow

Yeah, shitty shared host, and very badly designed

all the styles are in <style> tags :(

2:56 PM
53.78 seconds to load.

so... the first three course links? Were swapped around. The link to courses on the slider thing? 404...
Yeah, no one's noticed yet its slow

Bob
@satibel location. 11.7 secs here
probably Sg server
fine for AU, not so good for EU/UK

yup
local server

Bob
@JourneymanGeek you need to web optimise some of those photos
a 500 kB photo has no business being in a slideshow

2:58 PM
38.17s here

I ONLY GOT ACCESS TO THE WP SITE TODAY OK?

Bob
it's 1700x1100
resize it down :P

just use better compression

Bob
@Burgi it's rendered in a box 2/3 that size

3:00 PM
why are all the children looking unhappy and doing the peace sign?

Bob
that edutrust logo needs to be PNG'd
224x140 JPEG, somehow half a MB

probably copied from the press kit
@Burgi You'd be unhappy if you were there too....

This is the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history!

Bob
the two guys in hardhats directing an explosion look so stock-photo-ish :P probably because it is

@Bob that's still horribly slow.

3:01 PM
I will eat my hat if it was not

Bob
@satibel 11.7 for final load (page ready) isn't too bad. styles, even photos, were loaded by 5s

the chinese business management photo has white western looking people in it...

Bob
@Burgi I think that one kinda makes sense, if it's targeted at westerners looking to get into chinese businesses? idk :P

stooooockarrrrrrrt
@Bob no its aimed at people from mainland china

3:03 PM
i can only assume that they think chinese people can't run businesses

Bob
@JourneymanGeek oh

never seen anyone from that class tho

Bob
> revolution.extension.slideanims.min.js

We seem to be running hospitality diplomas

Bob
why is this 30 kB

3:04 PM
Young landy asks me for directions. Says sir... every other word
I was almost like " I WORK FOR A LIVING"

thge guy doing the thumbs up in the "learn english" pic could have trimmed his nails

@Bob I have a list of plugins this uses at work
(thank god I am not the webdev. I'd probably have shot myself at this point) ;p

welcome to my world

Bob
WHY

its loading the slides through AJAX

Bob
3:06 PM
@Burgi the admin control panel?!
this is under the /wp-admin/ path!
of all the places to put it...

yeah thats normal for WP

Bob
@Burgi WP needs to go die in a fire.
4
also. why is it loading gmaps apis
I don't even see a map

its loading it across all the pages but only used on the contact page

Bob
@Burgi which is insane
even we only load it on-demand, and our thing's a freakin' single-page app

omg... my minion....

Bob
3:10 PM
@JourneymanGeek plus side. slightly less dodgy than the other one.

@Burgi is he goggling at the horror too?

he has approved a pull request from a freelancer that contains serious errors

1 hour later…
4:14 PM
I made a tag for the other day since I saw a few questions about it. Should a synonym tag be added for ?
I figured a wannacrypt specific tag would be better than the tag that was being exclusively used for wannacrypt questions

hmmm.... i'm not so sure that is a good idea

@Burgi do you think the ransomware tag should be used instead?

yeah

We could synonym to ransomware then

thats probably the better option

4:19 PM
Make that the de-facto tag

nod nod
aaaaahhhhhhhhhhh
work is weird
i don't get office politics
so arugh

I don't have enough rep to suggest synonyms, so someone else would have to suggest it

post it on meta

Guy who originally wanted to hire me to ops team, asks me if i'd be interested in joining ops team, but asks that I don't tell anyone he's asked me.

why are you being headhunted?

4:22 PM
One of my teamleaders clearly sees this, asks me after if i'm looking to move to ops (I'm not). Says I'd likely be bored (I agree and told the guy at the time that I didn't think the role would occupy me, and I don't want to be the guy who just flips between departments)
teamleader then goes, well what about sysadmin or network teams, that's more like the stuff you'd enjoy
i'm like.... well yeah,
so then he goes to talk to those teams to see if they got any positions coming up, partly because he doesn't like the ops guy xD

4:33 PM
@djsmiley2k Why are they looking for a new team for you anyway?

they aren't
they just know i won't stay on the service desk forever

So your team lead doesn't want you to join ops based on that he doesn't like the ops lead?
If that was actually the case, then I don't think he is well suited to be a leader :P

no
based on the fact h knows I'd be bored and wasted theret5gf
6which happens to be what i basically told the guy too
but he just confirmed it xD

4:57 PM
ANYWAY
feels good :D

5:30 PM
@GypsySpellweaver Changed to your design, but now it looks weird on mobile :/

@JourneymanGeek 51 html errors and warnings, 498 css errors :)

@DavidPostill rahul.tech IS VALID!!!
Check first line of source code :P

but it isn't semantically valid

@Burgi It is

im half expecting the devs at work to come and talk to me tomorrow

5:44 PM
<pre> is for preformatted text like code or the like

<!-- OOOH YEAH BABY! HTML5 Valid! -->
pretty sure that's not valid in html5 :/

@djsmiley2k Why not?
@Burgi That is preformatted text, just not code

there is a secondary part to HTML5 about semantic validity

oh actually ur fine

you should use the correct tags for the job

5:48 PM
@Burgi Mehh

it helps screen readers and is easier to debug styling issues

@Burgi gaah

gah?

Yes. I think I can do better than that given enough time.

6:03 PM
> The days of paying $1,800 for a ten-core CPU are numbered.

on ubuntu, su - is asking for a different password than my admin password. sudo is working with my admin password
sudo su works though. It takes me to root/home/usr
but install isn't working :( some other process is using dpkg
but there is no other process according to ps -a
I used to be good at this :(

Q: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/) is another process using it?

La Ode Adam SaputraI get this error when trying to use apt-get: E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable) E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/) is another process using it? How can I fix this?

dafuq, these people say to delete the lock.

@djsmiley2k yes, open thunder.wncry in a code editor.
and no, astley holdings pvt. ltd. is not a real company. I made that up.

6:21 PM
@Nick i don't have one :(

then, gedit or nano.

seems like too mcuh effort

Times Square crash, apparently drunk driver on wrong side of road.
Richard Rojas, 26 y/o of the #Bronx (driver) drove at a high rate of speed. 22 injured (4 critical) and one person is deceased. #TimesSquare
(offical NYPD Tweet)

@djsmiley2k lol,,, it;s just text.
@bwDraco dafuq is this. Which year am I in? Who the hell....

@bwDraco :/

6:23 PM
All information is preliminary: At 1155hrs a 2009 Honda Accord mounted the sidewalk at W.42St & 7th Avenue striking people. #TimesSquare
^^^ Went onto the sidewalk. Scary.
It was serious enough that the NYTimes app gave me a breaking news alert for this.

@bwDraco I used to scare my friends back in muscat with that.

er...
@Nick drunk driving or driving on the pavement?

@Burgi We'd be walking on the sidewalk and I'll detail how they could die at that moment.

@Burgi @Nick From what I can tell from the news stories, the car was on the wrong side of the road, then plowed onto the sidewalk. The driver has a record of drunk driving.

6:49 PM
hmmm
iu remember once
me, my wife and her friend were walking to hte club
and it was in a pretty dodgy area
anyway we stepped out into the road, what should be like a 30 zone
guy comes round a corner doing about 60+
i pulled my wifes arm, spinning them both into my arms
if I hadn't, they'd of totally been ran down by that guy

@bwDraco the good news is it being new york he won't have been moving very quickly

7:13 PM
@Burgi Being on the pavement he could probably go faster than the road...

who turned the rain on :/

@Rahul2001 Not in php, and not using the responsive designs, only for the desktop. Still, might help out some. https://github.com/gypsyspellweaver/gossip
The changes were only in the css enough for the desktop to look the same. don't know what CSS you have the mobile versions using, nor how else you have it set up. Once the HTML is good, then adjust the CSS.
@Rahul2001 I'm guessing you have different css for desktop and mobile. I couldn't see any responsive elements in the style.css file.

8:20 PM
Due to HVAC limitations in this house resulting in my bedroom getting extremely hot, I'm working from Bifrons in another room and using RDP to the Dragon instead. Despite the limitations of the display, it is still minimally usable for photo post-processing.
I'm typing this from a Remote Desktop session right now.
The connection is fast enough that there's no perceptible lag.

9:02 PM
> [...] While power consumption and heat may be minor issues for the typical PC user, they're a huge deal in the datacenter when you have thousands of servers consuming many megawatts of total power. The HVAC needed to get rid of all this heat multiplies this cost. Shaving a mere 5% off of the power consumption means cutting hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars a month out of the energy bill.

@djsmiley2k what do you hear?
