Hi!

Bob
hmm. they seem to be laying conduit down the road

@Bob Knowing your luck they will stop before they get to your house ;p

its for gas

@Burgi lol

Bob
@DavidPostill not planned till late next year, so probably something else

11:11 PM
do you think smallint will be enough to cover values for NumEmployees?

Maybe now, but that could change in the future

@Burgi If smallint is 65,535 then that's a lot of employees...

@DavidPostill its signed

If it's signed, that's "only" 32,767

i think it'll be fine

11:17 PM
@BenN @Burgi Why should it be signed? You can't have a negative employee number

not sure you can specify if its signed or not

If this is MySQL, this document seems to imply you can, but doesn't say how

its SQL Server
meh it'll be fine

Does signed smallint work?

32,768, or 65,535 may not be that many employees if you run the program very long, since every employee will need a new number, not a recycled number from last year, or five years ago.

11:25 PM
its a total number of employees, not a unique employee identifer

@BenN smallint unsigned apparently

Ah
Oh right, we're going for unsigned

i've set the TravelRange to smallint already
if they can service anyone within range of 32000 miles they are astronauts
its a bit of a fudge tbh

It seems that SQL Server may not support unsigned integers, and probably won't. See connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/515502/…

Ah, nice find

Q: Why aren't unsigned integer types available in the top database platforms?

EhrykDatabases are usually very customizable with varying data types and custom lengths. It surprises me, as I try to look for the syntax to use unsigned int types that they are not available from neither PostgreSQL and MS SQL Server. MySQL and Oracle seem to. This seems like a glaring omission on t...

Just for a local source

the customer wants to email us spreadsheets to upload rather than allowing us access to their API
its a step backwards technology wise

Bob
