@SmokeDetector I think this might be spam, but not completely sure. Looking at the history of this link, there are a lot of questionable "answers" basically saying the same thing. This one in particular feels like a low-effort question, to the point that I'm not sure it's a genuine question.
@SmokeDetector I'm going to say this is spam. Given the history of the link and the fact that their profile picture is just a screenshot of the site, I believe the only goal here is to shill the link.
@Makyen I see some users being able to send commands to Smokey in SOCVR, but if I do it, It'll tell me I don't have privileges, is that possible to get?
For instance, if you are chatting there or something and want to provide fast feedback etc
@Cow You would have to be added to the list of privileged users for that room here, and in order to do that you need approval from a room owner. I think you can also just use FIRE instead though, since it talks with MS directly.
@Cow That's not entirely true. One thing we have to weigh is the cost of doing something. This user has been self-promoting for years. Would you mod flag each and every post they've made? Knowing that there's a pattern is useful
I mean, they have 84 posts with a link. And the few I've looked at are making the reference inside otherwise helpful posts. As a mod, you have to weigh all that
@Machavity Also, I just want to emphasize, that I think you guys do an amazing job and I understand that it's complicated, when it comes to users who contribute a lot to the site
@Cow FWIW we have another user who does something similar. And that user refuses to change so they're on a year ban. Useful posts, but way too many links
@Machavity That actually makes me more confident to read
thanks for looking at the flags btw
@Machavity the problem with Dmitri T though is that almost every single answer has a link to blazemeter, which he works for, just take today for instance, I just checked the last 3, and he's done a lot. They all have links to the site, it's crazy
@Fastnlight Just as an FYI (since you're here), be careful spam flagging single instances of lacking disclosure. Spam flags need to be clear and those often aren't. Sometimes just warning a user that they need disclosure is all that's needed.
Spam flags get the most attention, so it's tempting to just red-flag everything, but remember those flags carry special penalties so we're leery of sustaining them when there's no clarity.
@Cow I mean, I think you're supposed to custom flag one but include enough information there that a mod can identify the problem. For example, you could include a link to a SO search for all posts with that domain
There's about 7k mod flags still open. We've not been able to catch up on AI flags after the strike. There's an election coming at the end of the month, tho
@Cow That pattern looks like it's already caught by Potentially bad keyword in answer and Potentially bad keyword in body Append -force to the command word(s) if you really want to add the pattern you provided.
> MADE IN USSR! > MADE IN COMMUNIST RUSSIA BY ANDREW GAIDUKEVICH WITH WIRELESS ASSISTANT! > During years of Power of Putin, Medvedev, Grudinin, Zuganov!!!!
Honestly, I think it does nothing. Downloads a bunch of pages - sequential IDs of posts, then echoes some stuff and lightly modifies the downloaded HTML I can't see it do anything useful. I suppose another tool might then pick these up for later processing but at best this script scrapes a few things.
I think -S means read from stdin for password, so it's trying to put in 12345 as your password just to execute the su -c command.
And I think su -c is supposed to have an argument to execute as a command afterwards, but here there was nothing. So I guess the whole script won't even do anything. Probably nonsense after all.
@Cow If you paste the multi-line code for the bookmarklet into Firefox' URL line in the bookmark create/edit dialog, it should be auto-converted to a single line.
