@RyanM Interesting.

@Mast It's a pattern I've been applying to a bunch of these that get spammed but also occasionally have their APIs used in code
e.g., I excluded the Patreon API and OAuth (...and a bunch of Patreon accounts that are mentioned in tool output) here but left other things because it's a common-ish thing to spam

Ehhh. To some degree, there's already enough punctuation and IMHO slightly easier to read without it. If it's causing inconvenience, I can try to escape forward slashes, but I default to whatever is easiest within the tools I'm using when writing it.

11:20 AM
Basically what you want is to catch everything from that domain except where the sub-domain or top-folder are api, right?

@Mast Correct

Sep 16 at 19:37, by Makyen
@tripleee Extra backslashes are convenient when one wants to be able to just copy and past it into different environments, some of which require the backslash on a /, whereas none of them operate incorrectly when there are extra backslashes. Having the extra backslash makes for less work and fewer errors when moving it around. I'm not saying we should have a policy of using them, just explaining why some of the regexes I write have them.

I think that's justifying why to not remove them, not why others should add them :-)

Thanks for all the stats dumps here - our web sockets are spread across 9 servers, so with one being wonky we'd expect to see a ~11% bad behavior rate. Given the above dumps, that looks to be exactly the case. But, this is something very hard to repro, they've been running for weeks. So instead of a quick fix, we want to narrow it down and figure out what's wrong where so we can fix the root. Is anyone in chat we could run tests with today? We can try rotating out each node to find the culprit faster. We can do this without, but your test suite already going would be very useful and welcome. — Nick Craver ♦ 2 mins ago

Hey all, any chance anyone running test suites for the websocket issue is about and has some debug time today? It'd be very much appreciated :)

hmmm, that may be TLS connection stalls during the rotation (we have a lot of sockets)

There are 2 options: you can do that, but we've cooked a NIC doing that due to heat - we use DRIAN which rejects new connections to that backend node
If we actually nuke the socket server process (e.g. a build), then yes that'll happen
Sorry, they won't move - they'll reconnect

@NickCraver The earliest confirmed indication we have that there were problems was this chat message from @gparyani, which was at 2020-10-13T10:55:30Z.
(cc @rene) However, that's a human noticing that functionality which is based on an SE WebSocket isn't working properly, so the problem started at least long enough before that such that a human noticed something relatively rare wasn't working correctly.
What wasn't working was that SD was reporting already deleted posts into the Tavern. Not sending reports to the Tavern about already deleted posts relies on watching a single WebSocket which is set to watch each question on which a post SD reports exists. That WebSocket is monitored for deletion notifications.
So, what was noticed was that some posts which were reported into the Tavern were already deleted at the time the report message was sent. Combined with the random nature of the problem, it's quite likely that the WebSocket issue existed well before then.
Given the timeframe, I'd consider it likely that something didn't come back quite right from the planned maintenance on 2020-10-13T00:00Z. The SE service blip that happened at some point after that (presumably around 2020-10-13T12:53:59Z) appears to have been after our first indications of a problem existing.

Spam, apparently.

@RyanM np. Overall, the general issue is the fact that detections change over time (added/removed/changed). This results in the weights we see now not really matching up to the historical record. While such changes should occur, it's not something which we currently take into account when determining the thresholds permitted for people to set their autoflagging conditions.
