@Spevacus BTW: we normally watch blockspot domains without the TLD, because Blogspot has a domain named "blogspot.*" in almost every TLD, which can be used to get to the user's subdomain. So, this would normally be: !!/watch- drabu7demonspells\.blogspot. It's not a big deal. It's just something to keep in mind. It took a few reminders for me to start remembering to do it. :)

@Makyen I'll remember for next time. Thank ya! :)

@Catija I'm sure we're happy to use whatever terminology you want for profiles/accounts, but if you want people in general to use that terminology, then I'd suggest that the dialogs/UI SE shows be changed to consistently use that terminology, as users in general don't really have another place to get the terminology from.
Currently, the dialog for creating a profile on a new site says we're creating an "account" on the new site. In fact, it says it's a new "account" at least 5 times, and that creating the profile/account "will automatically link this account with your accounts on other Stack Exchange sites."
I know there are a variety of other places SE uses "account" in reference to the profile on each site (e.g. the "accounts" tab in the user's main SE account pages). Ironically, the place where I've seen the SE UI use the term "profile" is for the user's "Network profile" link in their site profile/account pages. It's going to be a significant uphill battle to get people to use "profile", unless SE changes to using that terminology in all, or at least most, UI elements.
Basically, it'd be nice to use "profile", but getting people to use it consistently is going to be ... difficult.

@Catija If the site says we're making accounts, we're making accounts.

:sigh:

shrug

Y'all are... more knowledgeable about the site and the network than the average person. My intention in mentioning it is to share that knowledge. For most users on the site, they may only have one profile, so they are, essentially the same thing. To use the term "profile" can needlessly confuse people who really just don't need to understand the difference.
Y'all don't have to change how you speak about it... that wasn't my intention... I screw it up regularly myself, but I try to use the correct term.

@Catija If we do that, the new users will tune out|ask stupid questions|try to correct us.
When in Rome...

I use it all the time and I've never had anyone "correct" me.

If Caesar calls it an account, who cares if it's a profile. We all call it an account.
Because Caesar said so.

I feel like you're being rude and... maybe that's just me but I'm not fond of it.

That's not my intention.

8:49 PM
@Mast I agree. You're going too far.

Any part in particular that went too far, for future reference?
I have enough hills to die on, I'll try to stay away from this one.

Mostly it was just continuing to bash away at the issue.
(at least from my POV)

Overemphasis. Could have stopped at "When in Rome..."

Ok.

8:54 PM
@Mast, Catija is trying to be helpful with explaining this terminology. It is helpful to know it. This is just a spot where the site makes it difficult to adopt the terminology in all things. Continuing to point out that it's difficult, or that other usage might be better, just rubs her nose in the fact that it's hard.

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Potentially bad ns for domain in answer (1): Link obj files into blender? by Wookie on blender.SE

FWIW @Catija I appreciated the clarification and found it quite useful. I'd always found the terminology that the site uses confusing, in that it does call them "accounts," which struck me as confusing because it wasn't clear what was linked to what in what way, and your explanation made it a lot clearer how it's represented internally.
Which is to say: thanks, and also +1 to Makyen's note about the site's terminology

@Makyen Again, didn't intend that.

@Mast I would have been surprised if you did. I assume you were just on a roll. It's easy to do. Unfortunately, it's also easy to go a bit too far, particularly when you can't see the non-verbal reactions of the other person/people.
