@Makyen heh, truth. well now we know that verified full backups are done every 4 hours on the hour give or take so we're not in that much danger of losing the data - may not be on Undo's S3 all the time, but it is readily available :P

@Undo I can't seem to find the sample-config...

7:31 PM
@Daniil you're in the charcoal.all team, but not charcoal (which is where the file is)

user435118
@NobodyNada Oh, how do I join the "charcoal" team?

only people with SD creds are in the charcoal team

and you don't have SD creds/privs yet I don't think
so you don't have sample-config nor are you in the 'charcoal' team directly
i think

user435118
Oh ok. Can someone in that team give me the sample-config please?

@Daniil sample-config contains SmokeDetector's usernames and passwords for SE and GitHub

user435118
7:33 PM
@NobodyNada Can they be redacted then? I want to update my test instance's config but I don't know how I'm supposed to input the token

@Daniil Sure, gimme a sec

user435118
So where do I get my token?

you're not in the group of SD runners
you would get your API key from Metasmoke
but since you're not in the relevant group you don't have the ability to get the key. and for GH you need the token to push to GH

@Daniil You only need that to push to GitHub (for !!/blacklist and friends)

(E:Can'tRead)
you also need an MS api key though to really function on things overall but i don't think you're in there...

user435118
7:35 PM
@NobodyNada So where do I get it?

@Daniil you don't have access to it
because you don't have the SD creds for GH and such

user435118
But I want to push to my GitHub

user435118
So where do I get the key for my GitHub, or I don't need one?

hope you have a totally independent fork with all the URLs changed in the configuration

@Daniil Give me 5 or 10 minutes and I'll poke around to see whether or not that's easy to do

7:36 PM
because those links/URLs are hardcoded
@NobodyNada the GH links I think are hardcoded

user435118
I think we're talking about different things here

@Daniil you're looking for the GH Access Token right?
for git access?

@Daniil you want to run a testing instance of SD that pushes to your own fork of Smokey's GH repo, no?

# Set metasmoke_key if Smokey isn't running on the same machine (localhost) that metasmoke is

# You can keep all of the following unchanged if you like to

# Set the location for metasmoke here if you're running it. See github.com/Charcoal-SE/metasmoke.
@Daniil ^ redacted sample-config

user435118
7:40 PM
@NobodyNada What options do I want for the token?

Woah Smokey's user and pass are just "redacted"? Your security team's wild! ;)

user435118
Hang on, why are non SD runners in the SD runners team?

@Daniil Probably just repo or public_repo, not sure
@Daniil Some people don't run instances anymore

there were more people running instances

e.g. my instance died a year ago and I haven't bothered to put it back online yet

7:42 PM
now it's just a handful of us
@NobodyNada well between me, makyen, and iBug who all have usually-24/7 instances, there's not as much need for failovers
but those who're still in the team CAN run SD instances, such as in a pinch
we can probably convince Nobody here to run theirs in an emergency case:P

We probably could tighten it up a bit, I'm not running an instance now so I don't really need access to the confidential information

user435118
Apparently, no more instances are needed though (I was told when I offered to run one)

@Daniil Probably just repo or public_repo, not sure

user435118
Is there anyone who's sure?

@ThomasWard yeah, I have the hardware ready to go, I could deploy an instance in ~5 minutes if everything went down

7:44 PM
@Daniil @Undo who has the full GH access
and would be able to say what perms SD has in the access token that we use

@ThomasWard runners all have full GH access, don't we? The user & pass are in sample config

@NobodyNada except user/pass is being deprecated, i meant specifically for the access token part

ah, there's 2FA so the user/pass doesn't work anyway. Sorry for the email @Undo, that was me

yep
hence my point about Undo
Undo will be able to say waht kind of access the PAT needs for a given account
but doesn't give out 2FA :p

I check all of them.

7:47 PM
@Undo so basically a full access key then

You have full access at that point anyway through user/password

@ThomasWard None of it should be hardcoded at this point. It's completely based on the user and repo in the config file. I believe I removed the last of the hardcoding when I was setting up my Windows instance. I've definitely had, and have, test instances running out of my GitHub fork with only changes to the config file.

@Makyen huh, interesting, I thought GH API was a little... picky.

@Daniil At least one of the rooms is private, which SD has access to, but whatever account you are using does not. You need to use a rooms_custom.yml to define the rooms you want to use.

@Rubiksmoose that still posts to SOCVR

ah
yes, so it would.

Hm... !!/report-local when? Only posts the batches of reports in the room it's reported in and Charcoal HQ?
;D

user435118
8:02 PM
@Rubiksmoose I really don't want a repeat of what happened in SOCVR /dev/null (read the transcript from here for the curious)

You shouldn't be reporting things that aren't spam. Full stop.
If there's a lot of spam, great. Then it should be posted to SOCVR as usual.
If it's not spam, don't report it.

@Undo waffles, there's enough moving pieces here and I don't have enough information to butt in

@Daniil My recommendation would be to A) post a message in SOCVR that you're going to be reporting some posts that need more careful examination. B) !!/report the posts and include a note about the criteria you are using along with the reports.

user435118
@Undo Let's not get into a debate as to whether 20 links posted by the same user, who works for the linked company and plagiarized some answers is spam or not

Not debating that one way or another.
But if you're concerned about something being posted somewhere else because they might question it... then it's, by definition, questionable.

report-local should not exist.

@Rubiksmoose For things that are not obvious spam, the primary thing is that a custom mod-flag needs to be raised prior to the posts being reported to SD. It probably would have been best for there to be more than one custom flag (i.e. one custom flag on each post). A !!/report should be used instead of !!/allspam, so that a report reason can be included that explains why they are being reported and the evidence for believing the body of work is spam.

@Makyen That makes sense. And then trust the moderator to then submit the spam to SD if confirmed?

8:19 PM
@Rubiksmoose as I understand it, "prior to the posts being reported to SD" means "raise a mod flag, then report"

user435118
@Rubiksmoose Not mentioning someone specific, but since mods auto get SD privs not all mods are trained to use SD properly

@Rubiksmoose The !!/report should have already submitted it to SD. The important thing is to let the moderators have the larger context either somewhat before or at least at the same time as the reports go out and people start spam flagging.

@Makyen Ah ok, so it's not so much that the timing (SD report before or same time) is vital, but that flags are included for local mod context.
@Daniil That makes sense. I'm sure I have tons of holes in my understanding. Which is why I try to ask stuff and stick to what I am sure of :)
I wonder though would a quick mod SD training be something worth putting together? (because I know everyone has infinite free time for these kinds of things right?)

user435118
@Rubiksmoose :)

user435118
No complaints about you @Rubiksmoose :)

8:23 PM
You just don't know me well enough then ;-)

@Rubiksmoose Yes. If something doesn't obviously fall into one of the named-flag bins (in this case spam, but also R/A, VLQ, and NAA), then a custom mod-flag needs to be used in order to give the moderators the necessary context. It's OK to then have a bunch of people spam-delete the posts, but the context needs to be there when the moderators start responding to the flags

user435118
@Makyen The problem is that the custom flags may not be seen since the spam flags are high priority and rise to the top of the queue (if I'm correct)

Cool! I'm up to speed then. Also, useful to know in general even not for mass post reporting.

@Daniil At least in my view, they are all displayed at the same time.

user435118
@Makyen I'm talking about order, not time

8:25 PM
@Daniil AFAIK flags are aggregated by post
so if there's custom mod flags, then they'll be shown alongside the spam flags

user435118
@NobodyNada I'm not sure

@Daniil If you click on the spam queue, you are shown all flags on the post.

user435118
@Makyen Ok, didn't know that

@Makyen Wait you have a spam queue on SO?

I think for me it's just all in one.
Here's a dumb question that I can't find an answer to: what is Blaze?

Even when I was modded with 1k+ flags, the Spam queue was like... 4

Yeah I've been playing around with the site already.

@NobodyNada Tried again, still iOS 14 :/

user435118
I'll contact support

@Daniil What are you trying to do?

user435118
Restore to iOS 13

Restoring back to a non-beta is going to involve downloading an IPSW

user435118
When I restore from Finder on Mac, it restores to 14

9:54 PM
Yeah
Download a 13 IPSW from somewhere, option(?)-click the restore button
It'll let you select it
Otherwise restore just wipes user data and keeps the OS

user435118
Oh ok, thanks

@Undo I held down option but it still restored iOS 14, NOTE: My ipsw file hasn't finished downloading yet, could that be the issue?

... yes
Might be alt, not sure
It should give you a file picker to choose the restore file

user435118
10:11 PM
It doesn't, maybe because it's still downloading

user435118
@Undo Aren't alt and option the same thing? :)

user435118
I'm back on the main set-up screen

Also any idea about whenever I use 2FA, it always says that the sign-in was from Nottingham? I've never even been to Nottingham...

@Daniil Are you within 50km?

@Daniil IP address-based location
notoriously inaccurate

Because those locations tend to take the largest city near you, even if it's way away.

according to my IP address I live anywhere from Nottingham, to Stevenage, to Margate, to Oxford
@Mast *cough* London *cough*

user435118
10:24 PM
@Mast I'm within 240km :)

Close 'nough

user435118
I'm never trusting iOS beta software again after today

user435118
Now I have a queue of 300 apps waiting to be downloaded after my restore... :/

@Daniil that's why they call it "beta" :p

@SmokeDetector f Very broad but can be seen as a valid question

That is... quite the post.

Any other memories of the song would be a big help. Slow? Fast? Do you recall any words? Or when/where you heard it? Anything you can think of might give a hint to someone who can answer what song it is. — Aaron 3 mins ago
