@iBug I wasn't questioning your statement that Lightsail instances are backed by the same hardware as the EC2 t2 series. I had just accepted your statements about that as accurate.
What I'm wondering about is if there are any limitations on CPU time consumption. In other words, I'm wondering if there's some limitation similar to the CPU credits used with EC2 instances, which limits the actual amount of processing you can do in a Lightsail instance.
The only statements I've seen of relative CPU capability between the $3.5, $5, and $10 Lightsail products are what's on this page, which just says "1 Core Processor" for each of them.
You've said the only part of the $5 plan which an SD instance doesn't fit in is the processor, but that it can work in the $10/mo plan. Saying that implies there's a difference in permitted CPU use between the plans, but I've haven't seen anything which states there's a difference between the processing permitted to the three different plans. Thus, I'm wondering what the difference between the plans is wrt. permitted CPU use.
@iBug Cool. I'm not disagreeing with the figures you've given for the memory the process maps, or the OS needs. I'm just saying that using swap space is a valid solution when more mappable memory is needed than the RAM which is available to the system. How much the performance of the system, and the Python process in particular, is impacted by using swap space for any needs above 512MB depends greatly on how the mapped memory is used.
I suspect that the prior instability with running an SD instance on a 512MB system was due to not allocating any swap space, making it impossible for the system to map more memory, which certainly would cause problems if more memory was needed for SD, even if that need was rare or intermittent.
All I'm saying is that the specifications I've seen for the Lightsail products don't inherently preclude running an SD instance on the $3.5 Lightsail product, but would require defining some swap space, which is both a very easy thing to do and there's plenty of SSD space available, some of which could be used for swap space.

@Makyen Do we care about "cleaning up" watch regexes like this one by converting them to use the
#obfuscated email
option? Or should they just be left as is.

@Das_Geek I'm not really sure what you're asking. I edited that specific regex, because the spammer demonstrated they were using obfuscation in the domain for their email. In general, we don't add obfuscation to detection regexes unless the spammer that's using the pattern being detected has demonstrated they use obfuscation in their posts. For this regex, no change was actually required for overall detection of the post.
However, while the primary purpose of the pattern is to detect the post, what's in the
why
data (i.e. the text actually detected) helps humans to evaluate if the post is spam. In the cases of email addresses, my impression is that it's a bit easier for humans to evaluate that the post is spam when the text detected is clearly an email address. Thus, I adjusted that detection such that it will pick up the domain, given the level of obfuscation the spammer has demonstrated.
Overall, if your question is "should we go through the watchlist/bad keyword list and proactively add obfuscation to all the email addresses", then the answer is no, we shouldn't do that. If we want to have obfuscation added to all email addresses, then it would be much more efficient to create a completely new detection which is exclusively for email address we watch/blacklist, similar to how phone numbers are now handled. That new detection could then handle the obfuscation as a general case.

@SmokeDetector The primary purpose for this watch was to detect, and have an additional detection on, a series of spam posts that were first posted as gibberish, but then edited during the grace period into spam (example). However, the last of those posts was 7.5 months ago. Since then, this has gotten in the ballpark of 175 FP.

During the last 7.5 months, it's detected 7 TP which wouldn't have otherwise been caught. However, all of those were relatively minor "abuse of the system" type of posts. Given that this watch targets usernames, rather than post content, my feeling is that we should remove the watch. Ideally, we would find an alternate method of detecting posts similar to those 7 TP which would not otherwise be detected.

@Makyen My apologies, I will clarify. The regex I linked earlier is long:
[\W_]*+(?:a[\W_]*+t[\W_]*+)
, and so on. My question was to ask if it was worthwhile to shorten that listing by replacing the long regex with the #obfuscated email
tag. There should be no difference in functionality, but it would make the watch item a bit cleaner. 15:56
@Das_Geek I'm not sure what you mean by
#obfuscated email
tag. Do you mean adding a regex comment like (?#obfuscated email)
to the regex? If so, I'm aware of no functionality in SD which is controlled by such comments. I've considered writing some functionality to be controlled by regex comments, but to the best of my knowledge nobody has done so. As far as I know, those regex comments, in the form of (?#comment here)
are strictly for human readability. 00:00 - 16:0016:00 - 00:00
