@SmokeDetector Appears that it might match what was requested. There is a free level of service, which may fit. I did not do a detailed check.

@JF Any chance you know/could explain to me how to integrate a couple hundred lines of ES5 JS (or whatever brower-runnable js is) into metasmoke? Ideally I'd want to make a package that could get included via webpack, so it ends up in the unified file webpack generates, but really anything that works is fine. It'd just need to be able to expose some objects that would be usable from the webpacker js.

@thesecretmaster ack
what are you trying to do?

@SmokeDetector ignore-

7:45 PM
@ArtOfCode I've got a ~600 LOC tag selector lib that I want to integrate where ever domain tags are used.

"tag selector"?

Think SE /ask tagging UI

aye, what part of it?
tl;dr: what's this thing do

The tagging part?
Makes it easier to tag things

Got the Fiddler link?
It's pretty neat.

7:46 PM
Yep

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Few unique characters in answer: "We all" or "all we"? by user81344 on ell.SE

Anyway, your best bet is going to be to throw it in a file in app/javascript and import it in the files you need it

@ArtOfCode app/javascript is all es6, right?

nah
well, most of it is, but it's version-agnostic
ES5 works just as well

Ok. I kinda want to keep it external to MS as a separate lib (I wrote it for a different project, and I don't want to maintain it in 2 places), but if that introduces tons of extra complexity I don't have to.

7:50 PM
hm, I see your point
okay, next choice is to publish it as an npm package that we can require

How I do that?

How's it function? Does it assign stuff to a window global? ES6 class? ES5 "class"? IIFE?

Well, currently it scans the page for inputs with a class, but that can be changed pretty easily.

The TL;DR is you need a package.json specifying some stuff and an NPM account

7:53 PM
Full version?

@thesecretmaster uh... yeah. At this point I'd look up NPM's guide on publishing a package, cuz we're about at the extent of my knowledge
I think I have a couple packages on there, but /shrug

Ok. Do I need to care about ES5/6/Vista/10?

lemme see if I can find out how the require bit works
pretty sure it basically just runs main
aye

So I just need a file with main defined?

{
	"name": "fancy-tag-library",
	"description": "optional but recommended",
	"dependencies": {
		"my_dep": "^0.0.1"
	},
	"devDependencies": {
		"my_dev_dep": "^1.5.2"
	},
	"main": "your_code_file.js"
}
something like that

fill it in with useful things, remove dependencies if you don't have any

my 2 cents: torch it @Federico

Aaaaalmost :(
Unless you mean 20k

if enough people agree is spammy, I am ready to nuke before going to bed

nah, meant 2k. I'm at 333, nowhere close :D I've also raised a mod flag about the username

@SmokeDetector I removed the offensive paragraph. It has been deleted by user-votes, but with at least 1 R/A flag active.
ninja'd, sigh :-)

@Makyen yeah, that's why I didn't flag the answer specifically...as for the ninja, that's simply the explanation of me not actually flagging the post :-)

(even though I could have flagged it with a custom flag)

@thesecretmaster your main file will just be run as-is, so treat it as browser code. I think.

8:15 PM
@Federico looks like a complex case...well, I think it's kinda spammy, given that very similar answers have been given by others, and I'm not even sure if the answerer actually read the posted description
one of those cases where, if it were to be reported here, it would've most probably gotten zero feedback :-)
