there's a way to get spam flags invalidated by posting something innocuous, then editing it to be spam, then rolling back, then editing it to be spam again
@gparyani Yes, this has been an obvious exploit since they first implemented invalidating spam flags in a rollback. It's one of the reasons that we don't edit out spam content. If a spammer engages in it, raise a custom mod-flag, which are not invalidated upon rollback.

@angussidney @NobodyNada I followed the steps mentioned on Angus' link, and it gave me "OK" status. So, is there really a problem with hard drive? Before I checked, it was crashed for once. I was using Chrome at that time. Can't it be a RAM issue or any other software?
Yesterday, I clicked on "Check for Solutions" in the flag list. It took 2 hours to complete, but I fell asleep so I don't know what really happened.

how open should we be about these things? I silently committed a CVE fix to another comment earlier this week but I'm thinking we should have a procedure which should be as open as possible without being sensationalist or anything like that
@AJ there was a ticket which was raised by NobodyNada I believe, hang on
it's still hardcoded to look for mentions of Japan so we should probably find other keywords to add, or reshape it into something like "90% of Post is Gratuitously Capitalized Like This"
A blue screen will be have a "critical" status. I'd also recommend checking slightly before the blue screen to see if you can find any interesting errors
@NobodyNada The crash message appears on the blue screen. And it just gets not-responding. My laptop became not-responding a couple of times, but got crashed only once.
if you want to try memtest86+, you download the image, burn it onto a thumb drive or CD, boot from the drive, and let it run overnight or something (it'll just keep running for as long as you let it)
@AJ yep, here's a fun read: superuser.com/questions/907474/… (to be fair, memtest is a much higher load than hibernation, but it is still nothing compared to DRAM refresh)
Maybe this is a genuine recommendation but, when a new user shows up and says "Hey, look at this website!" it does look a lot like spam. — David Richerby12 hours ago
By SE's definitions, it's not spam when placed on a question which is requesting the information. To be spam, it must be unsolicited, or there must be undisclosed affiliation, or disclosed affiliation and too much (e.g. all of their several+ answers are promoting, or they promote in unrelated posts).
@AJ not sure, I guess the error is intentional because it wants to prevent unilateral destruction by a mod but still collect your feedback ... but I'm not a FIRE developer
@AJ Not as I understand it. My understanding is that MS refuses to cast flags for moderators on the sites they moderate, and FIRE only casts flags through MS. Thus, FIRE won't cast spam flags on sites where you are a mod.
IIRC, a check is performed for each user in a batch once per day. I seem to recall it mentioned within the last few months when the check was started manually shortly after an election.
@AJ From a UI point of view, if FIRE was capable of casting flags for you on the site you moderate, would you want some additional notification or indication that the current site is the one you moderate? Personally, I'd think that the large site name/logo at the top of the FIRE popup would be sufficient indication (it's not like people are going to forget they are moderators). However, I guess it's possible to get into the zone such that you might not notice if there's a lot of SD reports.
I'm asking for input wrt. the UI, as it's certainly possible for a userscript to cast such flags, even for moderators. Thus, that may happen in the future and I desire the UI to reflect what people want, but to also reduce/prevent inadvertent actions (i.e. casting binding flags when not intended), while not making it inconvenient to use (e.g. having a confirmation popup every time you click to flag on the site you moderate).
I agree with that, but I'd also like to be responsive to what others desire. My impression has been that there has been a significant reluctance to facilitate casting flags for moderators on their sites. Thus, I'm trying to tread a bit carefully. Personally, if I was a mod, I'd find it quite frustrating that the tool doesn't work on the site where I'm most effective.
@AJ eeh, it was worth a try. Do note that it isn't a definitive test for whether your hard drive is broken, it could still have an issue. Honestly, I don't know what else the issue could be - it's definitely not pycharm's fault, and not a RAM error either, otherwise you would have come across the issue a long time ago
