Lunar Eclipse is down for replacement, after that's updated, Solar Flare will be going down
just wanted to give the FYI to all

3:18 PM
Wow, are we that good? We replace a complete Lunar Eclipse ...

3:34 PM
we can even configure the sun

and there's the new Lunar Eclipse

@ArtOfCode OpenSSL 1.1.0g 2 Nov 2017 is the latest I can get will that work?

that's extremely out of schedule!

3:35 PM
1.1.0 on Ubuntu has critical bugfix and security patches in g even though it's not the "latest" upstream variant.
details on the specific bug you were talking about would be nice though
compiling newer OpenSSL and installing it manually will torpedo everything in the underlying OS so it's a non-option to compile manually just to get Smokey to use it
glares at @doppelgreener and throws angry fireballs their way

@ThomasWard [dead]

i think Lunar Eclipse lost its notifications list though

time for some [tag:panic-driven-development] then...

makes a small pile of junk in the corner, then lights it on fire
There, NOW SmokeDetector can yell :p

OK, going to failover to Lunar Eclipse for a moment, so we can replace the Solar Flare.

@WELZ Solar Flare is now on an ubuntu 18.04 box, same with Lunar Eclipse now.
the chaos is it's not easy to upgrade openssl libraries :/

4:19 PM
@ThomasWard apt upgrade doesn't handle it?

@iBug you are implying that the OpenSSL version is bumped on every Ubuntu release the moment that a new upstream version comes out
that never happens because of the build-failures-hell that ensues
because of stuff on older libraries, etc. and it'd basically mean "Recompile Everything" and there'd be a ton of broken packages.
124
Q: Why don't the Ubuntu repositories have the latest versions of software?

Thomas WardWhy are packages in the official Ubuntu repositories older than the latest (upstream) versions from Debian Sid, PPAs, the authors, etc.?

^ relevant

OK I'll read that question.
My friend keeps on telling me Arch has everything as new as possible.
So Thomas how did you update OpenSSL on your Ubuntu machine? I doubt you compiled it from source :)

@iBug full OS upgrade of the container.
helps when Smokey runs inside containers :p
just hopped from Ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04, recloned/configured Smokey, and done

I thought you meant "OpenSSL isn't bumped from 16.04 to 18.04"
and it turns out to be "packages' versions are frozen for a paticular Ubuntu release", so it is updated when 18.04 is out

4:41 PM
@iBug you're right. But I've been running only LTS releases
because picky
so 18.04 i usually update to on the first point release
but meh.
I've been using it in servers a bunch and it's quite decent.
desktop, not as much :P

I didn't think you could update from 16.04 until 18.04.1 was out (wiki.ubuntu.com/BionicBeaver/…) I haven't looked to see if that's true though.

@Andy 1.0.2 has a bug in it that causes OS error #14 (bad address) on the flovis websocket
1.1.0 does not, so @ThomasWard that version is fine

Does that need a Smokey update or an OpenSSL update or both?

OpenSSL
Smokey could have some error handling added, though

Coolio

4:46 PM
wouldn't hurt to add the error handling
though I"ve got it updated anyways :P
been on my radar, I just usually wait for the first point release on an LTS :P

I thought I already had a cover-all except block, but apparently that gets through

going to be a PITA though to upgrade that host to 18.04. Think I'll wait on that until 2021 :P

@ThomasWard no, it just prints the text that matched

Looks like its as caught by hack(er)?\\b.{0,50}\\b(text|call|contact)

6:07 PM
@NobodyNada well I didn't mean the specific regex, I meant the matched portion of the text, from there you can determine the specific regex
the problem is we have several thousand regexes all combined into single-line captures

right

there's no possible way to find every single regex we're capturing on not without sacrificing performance to any degree
(i.e. check every single pattern one by one against a post, to ID which regex specifically caught it)

which is why I've been thinking about adding a command to search for the exact regex
