1:00 PM
I'm building review queues into metasmoke. I have this structure: sqlfiddle.com/#!9/854e0a.
rq is a review queue, ri is a review item, rr is a review result
Q has many items, item has many results, results belong to users

it's loading

Now I'm looking to get items in a specific queue that a specific user has not yet reviewed

sqlfiddle seems to be not loading
sec

I can do it pretty easily with a subquery, but... it seems like it shouldn't require one
create table rq (
  id int primary key
);

create table ri (
  id int primary key,
  qid int not null,
  constraint fk_ri_rq foreign key (qid) references rq(id)
);

create table rr (
  id int primary key,
  uid int not null,
  iid int not null,
  constraint fk_rr_ri foreign key (iid) references ri(id)
);

insert into rq values (1);
insert into ri values (1, 1), (2, 1), (3, 1), (4, 1), (5, 1);
insert into rr values (1, 1, 1), (2, 1, 2), (3, 1, 3), (4, 2, 4), (5, 2, 5);
^ IOW: one queue, containing 5 items, user 1 has reviewed 1, 2, 3, user 2 has reviewed 4, 5
so this query should be returning 4, 5 for user 1, and 1, 2, 3 for user 2

speak of the devil, another SQL conundrum here (possibly vaguely related): stackoverflow.com/c/charcoal/a/366/24

1:04 PM
Seems like it should be simple

@user5389107 Right? I think I've gone suddenly SQL-dumb

@tripleee "SQL issues: the sequel"

@user5389107 dbfiddle.uk should work

Actually, better test case is insert into rr values (1, 1, 1), (2, 1, 2), (3, 1, 3), (4, 2, 1), (5, 2, 4), (6, 2, 5);
(U1 reviewed 1, 2, 3, U2 reviewed, 1, 4, 5)
The "it sounds like it should be simple" query is this:
select
  distinct ri.id
from ri
left join rr on rr.iid = ri.id
where rr.id is null or rr.uid != 1;
but that returns (1, 4, 5) - but user 1 has reviewed 1

SELECT reviewitem.id
FROM reviewitem
INNER JOIN reviewqueue ON reviewqueue.id = reviewitem.qid
LEFT JOIN reviewresults ON reviewresults.iid = reviewitem.id
WHERE reviewresults.uid = 1 AND reviewresults.id IS NULL AND reviewqueue.id = 1

Basicly conceptually you want every item that is in reviewqueue 1 that also has no attached result in reviewresults for user 1
A subquery should only be marginally less performant though
(not sure if the above works though)

@ArtOfCode you should ask that on dba.se

@user5389107 it... does not, returns no results

@ArtOfCode In your query the OR is misplaced in the WHERE
Wait
Lemme check this

If rr.id IS NULL then rr.uid is null as well, because left join
so it can't also be AND rr.uid = 1

1:11 PM
Yeah I have to give this some more thought
weird should be simple as hell

well blow me down I might actually have to ask a SO question about this

select
distinct ri.id
from ri
left join rr on rr.iid = ri.id AND rr.uid = 1
WHERE rr.id IS NULL;
Your problem with your query is
That if you check for rr.id is null OR rr.uid != 1 you're getting some where 1 has reviewed and others have reviewed
You'd also be getting duplicates of where more then 1 others have reviewed

yup

The one I posted should work
Basicly it makes the userid one of the join conditionals

1:16 PM
bah, of course

took me embarassingly long to see that

hey I'm supposed to be good at SQL and I didn't get it either

@SmokeDetector I think we might just about catch that.

Huh, Blazer's janky graph producing logic actually produced an interesting graph for once

@ArtOfCode - I'd use a WHERE NOT EXISTS (...), as in:

);

CREATE TABLE dbo.ReviewItems
(
  ReviewItemID int PRIMARY KEY
  , ReviewQueueID int NOT NULL

sweet

I also want to point out I'm not a dba - just a software developer with a lot of contact to sql
so I'm pretty clueless on best practices and indepth optimization

Likewise
I've had to learn a bunch about optimizations because metasmoke's at the scale where it actually matters now, though
While I'm playing with crappy graphs, @Andy, this is the reason we've lost autoflagging accuracy:

sound engineer... interesting!

I had to too recently because for some reason we have 29 million delivery note position entries

1:35 PM
The first vertical is when we started autoflagging. The highlighted region is April, our worst month on record. The maximum weight we'd seen when we started was ~900; now it's 1277, almost 400 higher

that's an interesting looking graph, even though I have no idea what x or y is. ;-)

J F
@Art got a link for that?

So basicly we've been more carefree with adding checks and the total number of checks has also grown substantially which means every reported post has a higher average of reason weight because of the number of checks hit

J F
@MaxVernon x looks like time and y looks like weight.

1:58 PM
@ArtOfCode I'm pretty sure mine wouldn't be much better

How much do you know about Smokey/metasmoke?
@user5389107 Battle of the Queries!

I'm thinking an inner join with a table made out of a subquery

@ArtOfCode if that was for me, then not very much it would seem.

@ArtOfCode I'd come up with something similar
I expect it to be slow as hell - for every single interval, it has to re-calculate all the post weights in all of MS since posts aren't (can't be) indexed by weight

2:01 PM
@MaxVernon TL;DR: Smokey detects spam. When it finds things it thinks are spam, it reports them here and creates a post record in metasmoke, our web dashboard. Each report has a number of "reasons" associated with it - Smokey runs each post through a series of checks, and each check corresponds to a reason. Those reasons have a weight associated with them, which is essentially an accuracy score between 0-100.

Have you considered stuffing one of the subqueries (the one with postid - weight) into a view?

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Few unique characters in answer, luncheon meat detected, no whitespace in answer: PHP and MySQL login query by user9800634 on stackoverflow.com

We sum up those weights and use them to determine whether or not we should automatically cast some flags on the reported post.

tp- by Videonauth
tpu- by Stephen Kennedy
tpu by Filnor

Problem is, since we've added more reasons since we started autoflagging, weight is now easier to come by, so we've lost accuracy. What I'd like to do is create a curve, with weight on its x axis and the percentage of posts under that weight on its y axis; then, instead of using weight to kick off autoflagging, we can use its y value from that curve, which will adjust as we add more reasons.
@user5389107 yeah, it's been running for 5 minutes already
and yeah, fully locking up a CPU core
