I like your thinking

but we are not very strong in Metasmoke devs, how do we scale it so that we don't burn out our Rails fu?
it already feels like I'm reporting more bugs than I'm contributing over on the Python side /-:

@tripleee Current pace is sustainable. We can't get everything we want done yesterday, but we'll get some things done
@thesecretmaster maybe we should

11:21 AM
Hello
Which routes were you testing?
Also, is MS behind some kind of caching?
And what kind of computer is MS running on?

Looking straight at prod logs here, a bunch of requests to some of the API routes
@thesecretmaster EC2 t2.small I believe

Woah. And a DB on RDS or on the instance?

(virtual host, though, it's running a few other things too)
Local DB

How much other things?

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Bad pattern in URL body: List imported watch-only adresses by Kerem atam on bitcoin.SE

11:23 AM
I guess the monitoring thing for SObotics is hosted on the same box?

@Undo two things: (a) what command(s) are you using to run MS prod, and (b) what else runs on the MS server?
Guessing Sentinel and Redunda?

I have a theory that MS is running with only one worker, whereas we ran SCOT with 2:4 IIRC
also caching - MS doesn't have any

2:4 or 2:6, I've forgotten

We had a discussion a while back about increasing MS reliability/speed/decreasing bus factor, one option raised was to create a new t2 instance with just the DB on it so that we don't run into as many threading issues

11:26 AM
But yeah, 2:4 == 8, so 8x speed, so that'd make sense.
@angussidney I'd offer space on an RDS instance I have, but the DB has sensitive stuff I'm not sure I'm allowed to touch.

@thesecretmaster MS DB needs to be something Undo has full control over, in any case

@thesecretmaster that's been exactly the problem, it's not like we are scarce on people who would volunteer to host it
there's a Teams post around general sustainability discussions by yours truly from a few weeks ago but it never really took off

Could MS get broken up into a sensitive stuff bit and a non-sensitive stuff bit?

If we had more Rails dev capacity... maybe

That also allows for rolling deploys which is a nice thing.

11:31 AM
@thesecretmaster don't know, potentially. Will know better when Undo can say what it runs with now

@tripleee AFAIK that's mostly waiting on MS additions, and it would probably be the most beneficial thing we could do for the org ATM, so I'd classify it as one of our top priorities

@angussidney exactly, and so if somebody with Rails skillz wants to cut their teeth on something reasonably nice and well-defined, that's probably where they should start

11:32 AM
Yeah

@tripleee needs Rails skillz and serverless skillz. I dunno what I'm doing with it

@ArtOfCode I'd say that the readme is fairly well defined. This section looks good. Sorry btw that I didn't get around to that summary that I promised, I started but got sidetracked
Anyway, basically MS has a master token of some sort, you'll need to ask Andy/Undo about that.

Ando / Undy, let's not go there </M.A.R.>

MS will need to be able to give/revoke etc authentication tokens for users/smokey hosts (sorta like our API keys/Smokey keys, actually these could be granted alongside smokey keys)
There should be some sort of page which displays all blacklist items etc
Ideally it should also allow people to edit the blacklists directly from MS
Same story for notifications - some sort of notifications management page would be nice
This hasn't been added to helios yet, but we'll want similar functionality for blacklisted/whitelisted users

@ArtOfCode Should the command live in the Capfile or someplace?

11:37 AM
@thesecretmaster shrug
Cap is black magic to me

All the API routes you need should be listed in the README

@ArtOfCode Maybe we need that ^^

could be
needs Undo to have a free afternoon to look at it

You'll need to ask Andy/Undo if the fggqk618ri URL is still correct

MS will probably want to keep some sort of cache of the blacklists/notifications in its own DB so that we don't have to call the API every time it wants to do something
Really, you don't need to know much about serverless at all (based on what I've seen), unless if you're going to contribute to helios itself of course

@angussidney that can go in config

@Art where can I find the snippet that makes the sidebar user images smaller (so the starboard has more space)?

So is that what you were sorta looking for @Art, or is there something which you want me to clarify/go into more depth about?

@WELZ I thought I remembered Glorfindel said he had a CSS hack for that but I can't find it

I reckon there's a bunch of screen real estate that could be better used if we had some sort of userscript/stylish thingy
In all of it's freehand circle glory
Of course, we probably need to optimise this thing for newcomers

Too many... freehand... circles. Cannot... compute... explodes

@angussidney you have a non standard screen ratio?

Yeah, 21:9 ultrawide

better to plan for a 16:9

12:01 PM
Fits 3 windows on a single screen, makes games look amazing..... when they support it correctly.

80x24 is the standard

@WELZ of course. I still think that there should be enough room to move things around
Remember, it still has exactly the same number of vertical pixels as a standard FHD 16:9 panel

Someone should make a userscript that turns everything in chat into their own windows - with an X to close them - (like toolboxes in Photoshop). Then everyone can customize as they see fit

And most importantly.... we need to add our own logo to the bottom right

Ubuntu has a platform called Launchpad which is pretty nice e.g. for its ability to link to and track remote issues (Debian, Sourceforge, Redhat, Gnome etc)
in more concrete terms, we are currently pretty focused on individual spam domains, but the tagging facility helps group and link them; for a start, maybe a convention for linking a domain to an ... Issue? Ticket? Report? which can be pending, closed, or rejected, and maybe some additional states for "more info requested" and "sent to the wrong place" maybe?
and maybe somehow link (tag? Again?) related issues
