@ByteCommander TCOM is short for the Smokey instance named "The Call of Midnight". The name is unique enough that only one of us has it, and it's the "Testing Things Without Affecting Actual Smokey Instances" dev instance I use
which connects back to a PyCharm debugger instance
so I can do better debugging

Cool thing

still laughing at 9 - 6 = -3 though

@JF for reference, 9 million before, 6 million killed and 6 million fled to the US. 9 - 12 == -3. Which is still horrible maths because it assumes the entire US population fled during WW2

I think there's no point analysing it really

Well there's a few other places. I think there's been stuff on History and other religion sites
But definitely should not be on on SO

@quartata That might help, but looking at the list of tp, there are a good number on SO (which may, or may not be the same person).

FWIW right now it is explicitly enabled on SO

@Makyen I would say it's likely coincidence.
When you're trying to troll/spam you just want to make up a name... John is a very common name.

@quartata How about we require the username match of ^John$ also not match (<code>|https?) in the body. I've tried a search for that. It catches all of the existing messages by the troll in the last month. The "John" posts in the last month which it doesn't catch are all clearly other spammers.
It doesn't get things to a perfect TP/FP/NAA, but it does reduce FP by > 50%.

@bro Does that mean the body data isn't available to the "John" detection code? If so, that seems like a ...wrong... way to organize things. But, then again, I haven't actually looked at that code, so there might be some reason for organizing it that way. I must admit that I'd assumed detections were passed a data structure containing the post and any associated data/pre-processed data, etc. and that they would return a structure indicating the pass/fail of the detection and what matched.

11:38 PM
@bro There is. it was one of the first things I added
@Makyen Normal checks just take a string, and so are called separately for each component. whole_post checks do what you describe
Smokey has very lazy roots
