@Undo I don't see why not. If it's a useful answer which simply lacks attribution, then edit the attribution in. The don't edit spam guidance is for cases where people edit the spam out. This is completely different.

We're not talking about removing the link from "Click here for Viagra", only about adding attribution to otherwise useful posts whose only sin was not knowing how uptight we get about this sort of disclosure.
@SmokeDetector FWIW, this is the Richcopy spammer: metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/post/106031
That both educates the user and keeps a useful post, while flagging as spam would have done nothing useful at all.
@SmokeDetector Isn't this a spam? He is going on posting use Robocopy

@JakeSymons uh, good question. Actually, now that I think of it, it's only useful if you think Smokey has missed a post.
Otherwise, you know Smokey doesn't think it's spam, or it would already have posted it here.
@Glorfindel Oh yeah, so if I post might have been missed, such as when there were certain posts missed on graphic design before
JAD
JAD
how do you check if something has been scanned already?
That's not possible.
@JAD Although you could use the post link and do a chat room search to see if someone has previously put it through this room
16:02
For some low-traffic sites, you can use !!/queuestatus to check if there are still posts waiting to be scanned, but you need additional digging on the site itself to see which posts are actually in the queue.

@JakeSymons that only really tests if it has been reported before
16:32
Should I report that chat bug I mentioned earlier on meta, as I think it has something to do with the grammarly extension I added
then it's probably not a chat bug, more like a grammar extension bug.
@JakeSymons That sounds like a bug to report to grammarly.

I wonder if we should use pipenv for Smokey. It looks like it automatically creates a virtualenv to install packages into, and generates a lockfile that ensures all of the instances have the same version of each dependency.
@JakeSymons I encounter that from time to time. Typing text into the message box at the bottom of the screen usually gets rid of the extra space.

None (unless you plan using capturing groups)
If regex are case sensitive, what do we do to ensure we catch a site, for example, if they make it all caps?
[ck] is one letter shorter, so it's better :P
one character
@WELZ most (all?) regexes in Smokey are case-insensitive.

@Glorfindel Plus teams, but they probably won’t have spam problems.
(if they do, they’re much easier to deal with permanently, too)
@art how would I obtain credentials and things for running a proper Smokey instance? (I have no plans of setting one up to be alive on a regular basis, but I'd like to have the option available and I have some free time to try to set it up)
@Mithrandir someone sends you creds via Keybase, and someone gives you the runner role in metasmoke so you can generate integration tokens
sounds fun
Got a Keybase account? I can send you Smokey creds now off the top of my head, GH creds will need to wait until I find my SSH keys
I don't as of this second
21:51
You may need an invite... if you can sign up without one, awesome, if not lemme know and I'll ping an invite
Hmm. I'm running this on a USB version of Ubuntu. So I'm assuming that this isn't device-specific and once I have the creds and stuff I'll be able to use e.g. the MS integration token on a different device?
Affirm, though I'd recommend genning a new MS token for each device you want to provision
makes it easier to deal with in the event of a breach

@quartata I just tried that, !!/pull is still running into an error

hmm, Keybase does not want to install on my USB Ubuntu
@Mithrandir you don't need the app, you can sign up on the website and I'll ping you an encrypted message you can decrypt there too
22:08

why do people hide the "sign up" thing behind the "log in" interface
@Mithrandir ugh...
you do need a key before I can encrypt stuff though :P

technicalities
@ArtOfCode I think I managed to do thangs
22:13
So in order for someone to run a SD instance (even a testing one - to a specific room) requires the MS and GH keys?
What (else) do I need to do in order to make the test one?(I've done the rooms_custom.yml) and that's where I'm kinda lost
@WELZ If you've done the custom rooms, essentially you need to set up the config file and then run it. I think.
@Mithrandir paste the contents of that into keybase.io/decrypt

22:38
what version of Ubuntu
17.10
on this USB
@WELZ In code, there will often be statements which are disabled by commenting them out. There are inline and block comments. Exactly what indicates a comment is language dependent. "Uncomment" means make the lines/code active, usually by removing the characters (see above) which are causing it to be treated as a comment. In this case, line comments are indicated by a line starting with #.
Got it, thanks!
Okay, I think I'll kill this Ubuntu running off a USB and spin up a new one tomorrow and see what I can do then.

yeah I know
@ArtOfCode 3.6.2
@WELZ that version should work
23:01
@quartata already satisfied...
did you actually run both
come to think of it you can't even do this on stock Windows because you need a C compiler
so I doubt it's already satisfied
It's going now...
doing something
I'm going to have to continue this later.... still some weird issues
you need a C compiler
to build regex
@welz did it stop and complain when building 'dulwitch._objects' extension?
@quartata dulwich also
that one is probably optional
but
23:14
that is in theory the first dependency that needs a compiler
The difficulties in teaching non-techies to run instances are non-trivial, eh?
(I say as a complete non-techie)
@Mithrandir define non-trivial :P
@quartata being stock or not ain't exactly an issue, you can still get a C compiler
but basically, yes, more or less
I meant stock as in "you probably haven't bothered to get VS"
23:23
is undo around?
usual semi-around, what's up?
just asked a Q in the election chat.. Undo seems to have stats on everything - but then you're pretty good with that also

in 2018 Stack Overflow Moderator Election Chat on Stack Overflow Chat, 9 mins ago, by Yvette Colomb
Are there any stats on how people go in elections between one election and a later election? We have a lot of candidates who have run before (most of us actually)
Define "how people go"?
@quartata I guess my computer just wasn't meant to be. Haha
well it's not that :P
@Undo how they perform.
23:32
I told you what you need, it's just that really there's no point in going through the effort required for it on Windows
as in a 2nd time candidate over a 2st time
if you don't already have a dev environment
I don't have stats on that handy, but they'd be easy to pull
@quartata Alright, thanks for all the help anyhow!!
which would be better, go through the effort on windows, or create a dual boot with linux and go through the effort there?
:P
23:34
you wouldn't need that
@Undo I've moved our discussion on this into the election chat room
just use vagrant
/virtualbox :P
vagrant is virtualbox
well
ok
virtualbox is one of many providers for it
but if you're using it locally it's the one you use by default
well, TIL
so if you have git installed then you have mingw
could you setup an instance in that?
23:40
yeah probably
@Andy runs an instance on Windows
@WELZ do you have git bash?
Yep
is there another way I can do it?
@WELZ try installing in git bash instead
so run the same commands
you may have to install python again in the git bash
