I assume that for 0 us the timer is too imprecise to show a difference and for 502 us the process is giving up its timeslice.

Kind of an odd timeslice if so, are you using a realtime kernel?

Use a timer that's intended for profiling instead of a generic timer, they tend to work better

500 μs looks way shorter than a reasonable timeslice

Feedback now arrives to chat in large batches long after the corresponding reports, long after I reply to them with FIRE

Hmm. Mine arrives immediately, assuming I'm the first manual (FIRE) flagger.

I flag with FIRE. Fire says it comes through, but no trace of that in chat
