I think it would be useful if SD posted deletion reports (for posts that took more than two minutes to delete and outright delete the reports that were faster than two minutes)
Alternatively, if MS could publish the deletions through a cross-origin friendly websocket channel, I'd do the deletions myself
A poll endpoint would be nice, too, but I guess I can use the SE API

@JanDvorak we don't delete reports in here so that we have a log, but I'm not opposed to adding deletion reports. Could be done down the existing socket for smokey to post. There's also an API endpoint for posts that aren't yet deleted; don't know how useful that is to you.
@DJMcMayhem did you want your ms account approved?

If keeping reports is the goal, you could strike them instead. On the same note, if keeping reports is the goal, why are FPs deleted?

@JanDvorak a log of tp reports, that is

The idea is that even if I'm offline for a while, I know what needs to be flagged when I get to peek here

@JanDvorak we were working on a command to do that a while back... Don't know where we got to, though.

A list of posts pending deletion would be fine; I was imagining more like [id] -> [bool]. However, I'd prefer websockets over polling (and I believe the other endpoint would appreciate the same)

12:22 PM
In fact, that may be the API endpoint that takes ages to execute...

If I have a websocket, I'd only query this polling endpoint once per room load

@JanDvorak websockets I'd have to turn over to @Undo - I can make sockets work, but I know nothing about making them cross origin.

Cross-origin should be a single HTTP header - but I'm not sure, websockets aren't really HTTP

But honestly, so much stuff already polls Metasmoke, I doubt one more thing will make a difference as long as you're not polling twice a second
@JanDvorak yeah, no, websockets are definitely not http.

They start with an HTTP-like request and a HTTP 101 switch protocol response

12:25 PM
Sure, but their process/progress ain't http afaik.

True
I hope metasmoke is already cors-enabled?

The API is, yeah
as well as a select few other endpoints

Worst case I could poll it twice per second :-D

that's a bad idea
Once a minute would be fine. Still excessive, actually, but meh

No polling then, the worst case is going to be manual refresh
Actually, I might just open 100 websocket endpoints against SE's own API. The downside is that I don't know if I can close individual endpoints, and accumulating them over time might not be ideal.

12:32 PM
Keep a list of all your socket objects, they'll give you an individual .close() method

SE allows multiple endpoints through a single socket

Nah, just open 100 sockets. Easier to resource manage.

For them?

@ArtOfCode But it also costs more threads, look at smokey sometimes crashing with "can't create thread"

For you. You can close them individually. For them, 100 sockets is nothing

12:34 PM
Any chance I could get the same information through smokey's posts in this room, though? :-)

@Ferrybig any modern computer with hyperthreading will handle 100 threads without an issue
My PC can handle thousands of threads simultaneously or nearly so

If I'm being fancy, I could juggle two sockets at a time and discard a socket after I no longer care about any of its endpoints

@JanDvorak yes, I'm not against doing that, just exploring other solutions

@ArtOfCode Oh, haha yeah that's probably a good idea

@DJMcMayhem done

12:42 PM
Either smokey reports deletions in-room, in which case it's just a matter of listening to new messages that translate those messages to late edits (and is useful even without the userscript), or SDMS reports that out-of-room, which would be a websocket and possibly a second endpoint, or I scrape deletion data off SE, in which case MS might not need to be modified.

What are you planning on doing with this, anyway?

Just to avoid opening posts that have already been handled

Fair

so that I can just scroll through the transcript instead of opening everything until I hit a deleted post
Also, it's good to know your actions have made a difference - a great motivator

I don't see anything in the Review tab on Metasmoke so I guess that means there is no recent spam which didn't already get feedback from somebody else
it would be convenient if at least Metasmoke could somehow mark the ones which have not been deleted already in the Posts view

well, maybe. Need to figure out how to make the query not take all day.
Open to suggestions on a good, unobtrusive way to indicate it.

@Undo would using a where on the id on the last 100 posts work for speed improvements, since the primary key is by default stored ordered internally in mysql

8:25 PM
@Undo Jan suggested sending a message to here via the MS-Smokey socket when a post is deleted - sorta like the API feedback messages, but for deletions.

8:49 PM
@ArtOfCode when any post is deleted?

aye
any reported post

Might work for the inverse; sending messages when any tp isn't deleted within some timeframe
Sending deletion confirmation sounds noisy

when our websocket on it expires?
Smokey holds those at the moment, doesn't it?

Yes, but metasmoke could take them easily
Take over at the twenty minute mark or whatever
