[feature-request] Add 11s as a trigger word for SmokeDetector. (exhibit A, B) @ManishEarth @Undo @hichris123
Hmm, depends on if it continues like this.
Strange numbers seem to be spammy in general. (But there's no good way to figure out whether a number is "spammy" or not, as far as I can think of)
Google it.
No, really. Searching "baba ji" finds spam.
Lol
Of course, Googling the title of every single new SE post is impractical
Meh.
It might find dupes. ;)

[ SmokeDetector ] All-caps title: KENDO UI FOR ASP.NET MVC - TREE GRID on stackoverflow.com
@Doorknob why?
It can be done. I have a Google search scraper thing.
Okay, sleep time.
@Undo Because we get ~1 question / second
I'm pretty sure Google's not going to like you
Oh right.
Okay, really sleep time. Bye.

@Undo mm, no I don't, sorry.
Seems like Chris does though.
btw @Undo, can you tell me, does OSX come with the md5sum program/command by default?
21:45
@Undo when you're back, ping me.
22:00
eh, nvm.
22:10
@hichris123 whatcha need?
@Seth I think it does. This machine has dev tools on it, though, lemme check on a 'clean' machine. And it's not md5sum on OS X, it's like this:
$ md5 -s "foo"
MD5 ("foo") = acbd18db4cc2f85cedef654fccc4a4d8
I think it is installed defaultly.
@Undo Was wondering how to set up SmokeDetector, but I'm figuring it out.
I'm doing a side project with a ML/text-analysis thingy.
Wanna add an answer here then @Undo? askubuntu.com/questions/17764/…
Was trying to figure out if my answer would cover Mac too, but if the command and syntax is different it won't.
@Seth why? It's asking for a solution for Ubuntu, right?
> How can I check the integrity of a downloaded Ubuntu CD?
Applies to more than one OS.
We support questions about installing Ubuntu from another operating system.
Look at the first couple of answers.

A: How can I check the integrity of a downloaded Ubuntu CD?

UndoOn OS X, the md5 command is installed by default. It can be invoked as such from the Terminal: $ md5 /path/to/myFile MD5 (/path/to/myFile) = b046a6bd326bb705349162abad3dce65 It can also take in strings with the -s method, which is useful in some cases: $ md5 -s "I like cake" MD5 ("I like cake...

22:26
That's great. How about comparing hashes, since that's what the who issue is. Does it have a flag for that?
I don't see one in man md5, @Seth
hm.
I'm not in Ubuntu at the moment, but there has to be a shell way to compare hashes.. hm.
You'd think...
You're the guy who said you would take SE off your nice list, aren't you?

I don't know that guy

Q: Why is the earliest allowed birthdate 1/1/1920?

Santa ClausI was doing a little poking around my profile, and when changing my birthdate I discovered a limitation: Oops! There was a problem updating your profile: Birthday must be after 1920/01/01 Okay, so that means the oldest valid age on StackOverflow is 94. At first glance, that might...

;P
Damn I have an impersonator
No, that's you, I got that link directly from your profile ;)
So, whatcha doing here? Kind of a lonely place among SE chat.
@manishearth free? I'm wondering why you decided to multi-thread SmokeDetector.
@Seth It's a long story. But in short, I got here from google
22:46
@SantaClaus That's... interesting.
@Seth I started by following a link in a comment on this question meta.stackexchange.com/q/237001/229166
@SantaClaus That's an interesting question.
Well it was
Do you know anything about this Ryan Seacrest joke?
No I don't.
Interested in learning the answer though.
Well I guess I'll leave you to your lonely chat room
22:56
@hichris123 Uh, posting can take time and block the rest
also, posts come in pretty fast
hmm, okay.
@ManishEarth So if I was going to put titles in MySQL & do a post request, it would be better to multithread?
@hichris123 yes
though, sql with threading is painful
keep a queue in that case, with message passing
:/
ok.
@ManishEarth Why a queue?
@hichris123 you do NOT want to do mysql in threads
or any sort of file I/O
race conditions and all
create a queue for all the mysql magic, and execute it in a separate thread
have the main websocket thread, and the small findspam.py threads
@ManishEarth ok, since I'm doing a POST too - would it be best to do this? main websocket thread, some findspam.py threads for the POST, and another for MySQL?
23:05
@hichris123 what does the POST do?
@ManishEarth gets data for inserting into MySQL.
@hichris123 passing it to PHP? (a) why? (b) if the POST is doing I/O as well, best use a queue, but this shouldn't be a big problem
@hichris123 why not do the mysql stuff from findspam.py itself?
sorry, from ws.py
@ManishEarth No, not to PHP, but to another site for more info.
@hichris123 exactly, where?
(text analysis)
@ManishEarth api.monkeylearn.com/api/v1... etc
23:09
@hichris123 oh, like that. Just do that in a normal thread
in the individual findspam threads
Ok.
So do I need to explicitly create another thread?
(I think not)
@hichris123 no
@hichris123 but use some form of queue and a dedicated thread to clear the queue for the mysql stuff
23:34
@Seth?
