@Makyen thanks :)
@Makyen <3
@Cow o7 Happy to provide. This was in the "easy wins" bucket of things I thought I could do for SD. Another item, which someone may be interested in picking up, is handling conflicts between pending PRs and incoming watches (or the other way around).
@Spevacus The problem statement is somewhat simple: Users can propose a watch expression as a PR, a blacklister can come along sometime later and watch that expression themselves, and now the PR is a dupe. The solution is also easy to understand: You can either check pending PRs for the expression a user is about to watch (my preferred approach), or you can warn prior to approval that the merging for a PR would result in a conflict. In practice this is difficult though, because you have to parse the expressions that existing PRs have submitted (which you could parse the PR body for, because the expression is always in inline code format, or the title, since it's always at the end) and compare it to what the user's submitting. If it's a match (ignoring regex comments), send a warning and allow -force.
You would also need to balance this with the "Do we really need this?" question. Any blacklister (i.e. the only people who would be merging watch PRs anyway) can resolve a dupe watch conflict with two commands: An unwatch/unblacklist and a re-watch/re-blacklist. Or, if the PR is still up and unmerged and it's noticed by the blacklister, they can just close it with a "Sorry!" So... Eh. Not super needed, but an interesting problem if someone wanted to take a stab at it.
It would basically remove the need for the "Allow !!/reject-duplicate" PR that Sonic has up.

yeah it's really nice to be able to close it when you've made a typo or maybe a regex error

@Anerdw IMO, no, it's not too noisy, as long as there's a clear difference between actually autoflagged posts and posts that are not autoflagged. Having such a flag icon as a link is something my personal userscript has added to MS post pages for a few years now. Personally, I've chosen to have the icon not be colored and upside-down when there aren't autoflags. Feel free to create an issue on GitHub to track adding such a link.

@SmokeDetector k
@Makyen Whoops! Sorry about that. That was definitely a typo. I'm well aware of non-capturing groups and would have said that I do always use them. Thanks for catching and fixing it!
@Makyen The main issue is probably that mods are making the decision to destroy accounts based on their contributions as shown in the profile. We're missing if they have something going on in Discussions or SG. Whether either matters all that much is up for debate.
@cocomac Wouldn't the code that detects and reports "already recently reported" handle that to prevent re-reports? Does that code not run when you use the allspam command? Ah, yes; I see as I continue to read the transcript that it does not, and that there's an open issue for it. Well, TIL.
Hmm, speculatively and conceptually, without actually looking at the code, that seems relatively easy to fix. I wonder why it's been open for so long. I guess it's harder than I think? Or it's just been overlooked? Regardless, I don't have time to try and fix it at the moment.
@tripleee @Anerdw Such a tool basically exists. It was originally developed by Bhargav Rao, and then I made a bunch of improvements a couple of years ago. It's called User Stalker, and it uses the SE API, along with the SD watch/blacklists, to watch for the creation of new user accounts that are likely spammers. (It also has a provision for moderator use to handle the re-incarnation of suspended/deleted user accounts.) Like SD, it needs to be continuously running to work. I ran it on SO for some time, and it worked exceptionally well in catching the creation of spam accounts, many of which would go on to post actual spam. Sometimes, they did so hours later, other times days later, and other times weeks or even months later. Fundamentally, I feel that this is a fruitful effort.
Unfortunately, only a diamond mod can do anything about these accounts, because the only thing you can do is to destroy them before they post spam. I had a helper userscript, somewhat akin to FIRE, but even more functional (and dangerous), that would assist a mod in destroying these accounts when they are reported into a chat room. Because only mods could do anything in response, this has been kept mod-only.
When I was actively running and monitoring this on SO a couple of years ago, it took more more than 2 hours a day to review and process all of the reports. So, while it was effective, it was overly time-consuming for one person to do, and not as easily crowd-sourced as SD. If you want to take the code and modify it for your use, and set up some watches, be my guest, but beware that it's a huge amount of effort.

With abbreviations, I can take notes of almost any speaker, effectively transcribing what they say in real time. If I use an auto-correct/replacement tool, with my abbreviations inputted, I can produce an actual transcript. This was quite handy in college to transcribe lectures. :-)
@Spevacus There are improved UIs for flag-handling, including comment flag handling. I'll plug my own, which has been a continual building on top of something Shog9 originally wrote for Monica. I can barely stand to handle flags without it installed. You are welcome to give it a shot. I'm happy to take feedback on it. I don't think any non-SO mod has ever tried it, so there might be some bugs, especially with respect to how it fits into the UI/color scheme. As a quick demo, here is what it looks like for comment flags. Flags are displayed inline with the comments, demarcated by a colored line, and text that tells you who the flagger was and what the reason they gave was. You can dismiss the flag inline, or delete the comment. Comment delete buttons are all lined up so you can click them more easily when reading a series of comments. It's designed for doing what I believe is proper comment moderation, which requires reading (at least skimming) the whole thread so that your deletion(s) preserve context.
@Spevacus Bahahaha, I see that you have not been a mod long enough to lose your youthful confidence.
@Spevacus Oh man, but nothing like the old days. Everyone is staid and buttoned-down now by comparison.
@Cow Every moderator has access, but it's not required to actually show up and participate. I have before, but I usually don't bother. It's... quite active, so it can be a real timesuck.

@doppelgreener I don't think that what you wrote there ("from what I know...") is an adequate explanation for why spam exists. That certainly suffices to explain some spam, but not all. For example, it is not the case that "most spam is generated by people in low socio-economic strata", and they're not necessarily trying to generate proof that it's been posted (though some certainly are, and your statement is not wrong per se, just incomplete).
@doppelgreener When you see spam in a "contact" form that doesn't post anywhere public, the most likely explanation is an automated spam bot has found that site and is submitting spam there. My company gets that from the "contact" form on our website.
@Spevacus On the subject of potentially low-hanging fruit for contributions... If you haven't already, maybe you can look into this, namely making the !!/allspam command checking for recent reports like the !!/report command does. I think that would have more value than checking submitted requests for conflicts with pending PRs (not that I have any objection to someone doing that, if they want to).
@Makyen An upside-down flag, eh? You aren't, by chance, married to a US Supreme Court justice, are you? :-p In all seriousness, I think an upside-down flag would be weird and kinda inappropriate for that icon, just because it doesn't have a clear semantic meaning. Having it grayed-out (and perhaps partially opaque) was the first thing I thought of when I read @Anerdw's message, so I'd support that for sure.

@Cow Ah, I see. No, I don't think it's bad. Just wasn't clear to me out of context. I barely have time to skim the transcript for messages written by humans. I definitely don't have time to evaluate every report, so I missed the context for your statement.
[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Potentially bad keyword in body (1): Blog comments widget replacement‭ by James‭ on stackoverflow.com
@CodyGray Thank you, I was remembering that from the conversation about increasing flags cast, but I guess that conversation was specifically about people who were submitting for proof.
I should also mention that I don't really think the work done by Charcoal is very effective in deterring spammers. If it were, then we'd expect to see the incidence of spam trend downwards over the years, but we definitely don't observe this. Spammers don't really seem to care that their spam is removed. Maybe an individual spammer or spammer's client does, but a deterrent effect is not really an argument in favor of removing spam.
Spam is removed because it's disruptive to the normal users of a site, and that's exactly why we seek to remove it here.
