So, why did it get the first one, but not the others in the initial series of !!/watches? If it was that it was rebooting and only saw the ones from a certain point, I would have expected it to get the later ones, not just the first one.
@quartata np. I'd already seen the email and gone to the page and realized you'd deleted it. It looked interesting, but not quite what I was getting at, which you deleting the comment made clear you'd realized. Hopefully the work will be useful in some other way.
I'm not sure of the exact timing. I know that for non-!!/watch and !!/blacklist-* commits it waits until CI completes and only reboots/reloads if autopull is in the commit summary.
Yeah. The blacklist reload happens prior to CI completing, so I think it happens rapidly after the SD-internal checks. My impression is that it's after the commit, but I'd want to check the source to be sure.
as an aside i dont know how often socket science pings are sent but that could contribute to ratelimit problems. it could probably be moved to chat.MSE
That could be quite useful. It's certainly possible that SO gets less at this point. There was a room on chat.SO where everything was reported, but I think that was trimmed back to just SO.
On chat.SE SD shows between 2.1k to 2.9k messages/day. On chat.MSE it shows 212/day. On chat.SE it shows 79/day.
The rate limiting guide indicates that a 20s cool-down is the maximum required in a worst case situation. That means that a max of 4,320 messages can be sent per day. That implies that SD spends a large portion of it's time on chat.SE rate-limited, at least a significant portion of the way up the rate-limit curve.
If we can move a good portion of the traffic from chat.SE to chat.SO or chat.MSE, that will be beneficial. However, it won't solve the problem. In that spam wave, the spam was coming in at a rate (6 or 7/minute) that was up to more than 2x the rate that SD can sustain posting messages (3/minute), even if it was only posting 1 message per report. Given that SD posts at least 2 messages per report (the report and the first feedback), even if we cut SD down to 1 room, that would not be sufficient.
That's a possibility. We could use multiple Feeds accounts to post into rooms, rather than one SD account. As long as MS is up, that could work. At a minimum, it would allow us to offload the MS originated messages that SD just relays (e.g. feedback received).
