@Zoe One of the things I don't like about FIRE is that it loads resources from the network upon every chat page load. IMO, it should be stored as a resource with the userscript, so that it's getting a local copy, not a network copy. This would prevent this sort of thing from happening, and be less of a security issue.

Yeah, [] characters must to be \ quoted inside links for the link to work. If we don't want something formatted as Markdown, then we'll need to quote most of the Markdown formatting characters. In JavaScript, I use text.replace(/([\[\]*`_-])/g, '\\$1'); for text that's going to be inside a chat Markdown link and shouldn't be interpreted as Markdown (e.g. question titles/usernames). It's also a good idea to add an LTR Override marker (u202D) to change back from any RTL in those.

@NobodyNada Thanks for telling me. Yeah, SE now dynamically switches between having the right-sidebar and putting it in the topbar (looks very similar to what I had, but without different icons for the channel/public) & it's only when the viewport is <640 pixels wide. Unfortunately, they've done it in a way that makes forcing it into the topbar non-trivial. Even when I put it in the topbar, SE moves it back into the page. I'm working on a fix. I really don't like the right-sidebar.

I find the responsive change particularly frustrating, as I have a userscript which already made SE responsive (mostly), and was ~85%–95% to the point of a beta release when they announced they would be making SE responsive, so most of that work is basically a waste.

I'll be working on the Left-sidebar in the Topbar a bit more later today. However, first, I need to figure out (& fix) why the changes SE made ~12–14 hours ago cause my browser to lock up the CPU & freeze for >30s every time I load an SE page (& it's not a userscript). It's almost as if they're doing some synchronous fetch which times out. I've just been putting out other fires since then, but I expect to have the time to deal with it shortly.
