Q: Should cookie blocks be added to the IP-based spam-blocking system?

Sonic WizardNote: Not a duplicate of Please don't use a spam filter based on IP address. That proposes that we stop blocking IPs; this one suggests implementing an additional feature while keeping the existing IP blocking system. Over at Charcoal, we've detected at least a few persistent spammers and trolls...

Why not have the watchlist in a separate database, so we don't have to pull every time it's updated, and can possibly make it non-public?

I personally don't care if the troll asks an actual, non-agressive question about the holocaust -- but if he starts trolling in comments then that's a different story

And the pattern is the same as on Skeptics, appears to be asking a question within the scope of the site, but it's all in bad faith.
Probably same troll, moved from Skeptics (where their posts were nuked in seconds) to History.

So, this answer [MS]: It appears clear that people consider the edit to be vandalism. Why do we not consider it to be a repairable offensive post (hence fp)? It uses a single expletive for emphasis. Removing that expletive is trivial, and only requires removing 2 words, leaving the sentence it's in quite understandable.

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Bad keyword in username: Removing/ignoring all the punctuation in a given string by Sohbet on stackoverflow.com

I'm not arguing that it's a good answer, or a good edit, just if we should really consider it TP or FP.

@Makyen Maybe FP then. But isn't vandalism also repairable, in the same way (rollback)?

Yes... and I usually flag them for mods to fix if I don't have sufficient rep...
Or edit them and hope someone approves it.

@SFTP I guess it speaks to intent. Was the OP's intent to vandalize? Or was it to ask a question, while expressing frustration (which should be a comment w/o offensive content)?
IMO, it wasn't the OP's intent to vandalize their post.

@TetsuyaYamamoto How are you providing feedback?

@TetsuyaYamamoto In the context of the Stack Exchange API, backoff is when the server tells you to wait some number of seconds before making another request
Maybe you feedbacked via FIRE, and MS recieved a backoff when casting a flag?

@NobodyNada Yes, I'm using FIRE. I clicked once but the SE server thinks it sent feedback twice.

@TetsuyaYamamoto Happened to me before
But not in FIRE

@TetsuyaYamamoto "SE server" you mean MS thought it feedbacked twice? or it tried to flag twice? Or are you referring to the two different popups: one for feedback, and one for flagging?

@NobodyNada There isn't anything in FIRE which should report a backoff issue for SE. FIRE should report a backoff received from MS when flagging, but there's a note saying that MS hasn't implemented sending backoff yet.

@NobodyNada I don't know exactly what kind of being or instance send that message, I just thinking the feedback request sent twice in very short period instead of once.

@Catija which is also completely consistent with the documented troll behavior

These people have no logic.

I often seen "bounty misuse" to prevent bad Q being deleted, but never heard such "bounty spam".
