Q: Is it correct to call Smartas as a sect?

S KThey don't reject any Hindu God, scripture or pilgrimage site. They may have an ishta devata who maybe Siva, Rama, Krishna, Ganesa or Durga or Murugan. Although they are mostly from the South, they accept Vivekananda and Ramakrishna as acharyas. I think it is misuse of language to call them a ...

I'm not inclined to investigate the charges, this just doesn't look appropriate.

It is not, one flag's removed it.

A: do Hindu scriptures say anywhere that one varna is higher or lower than another?

RaviThe racist and casteist scriptures of the Hindus say that Brahmins are created from the best part of the Prajapati(Manusmriti). And also that the Brahmins are created from the head Brahma, while all others are created from his arms, chest, thigh, limbs, foot, etc. Hence Brahminism does not believ...

So, perhaps some comment flags for auto-nuke?

Looks like troll, though.

@doppelpurpler Not one, I flagged it previously. Thanks.

@SFTP Oh, cool, good. I thought maybe it'd pinged one of the one-flag-removal criteria.

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ i think that's just a user who got question blocked on SO
the question block points them to a question on meta.se, they discover there's a whole new site they can ask questions to, and so ask their programming questions there too

Today, there have been multiple SD reports today that are not associated with an actual metasmoke post (i.e. when you click on the MS link, then you get a page saying "Post not found for ..."). This also result in them not being shown by FIRE (expected, just a symptom).

suspect that's probably down to April fools
Smokey didn't get a free pass from rickrolls just cuz it's a bot :)

i've been getting that a lot too

How so? All the ones I've checked were valid TP detections.

@ArtOfDuck but the thing is, even the MS links fail
@SmokeDetector <---- this one fails. click its MS link. compare it to the report below it.

9:42 PM
@Makyen Aye, but Smokey has to make a HTTP request to metasmoke to create the post; those requests are also subject to rickrolling

oh shoot!

That was a rather stupid prank then :)

I like April fools jokes, but they shouldn't mess with actual reports.

charcoal done gone pranked itself

Eh, I knew it would have a few consequences like that. It's not huge, and it won't be up for long,

@doppelpurpler you haven't done the April fools justice until you drop a banana peel and slip on it

@SmokeDetector K ugh, someone leave the self promotion comment
Especially sneaky adding in the links later

10:09 PM
Based on the domain/URL of your link(s) being the same as, or containing, your user name, you appear to have linked to your own site. If you do so, you must disclose that it's your site. If you don't disclose that it's your own site, it's often considered spam. See: What signifies "Good" self promotion? and some tips and advice about self-promotion. — Makyen 10 mins ago
Please note our promotion advice also suggests it is not appropriate to be here solely to promote your own products in the last paragraph: "If the only reason you're here is to sell something or drive traffic to your site, then please avoid posting answers." It goes on to mention Stack Exchange offers advertising rates and community promotion ads; you may want to take up one or both offers. If you're selling products the first option is more appropriate, if you're offering a community service the latter. — doppelgreener 1 min ago
@Makyen Thanks for leaving that first comment. Is my one there appropriate/reasonable? ^

friendly reminder
Mar 4 at 21:33, by ArtOfCode
New policy: Please don't comment on posts Smokey reports unless you're familiar with the site.
(haven't looked at context to see if there's anything out of the ordinary on this)

@doppelpurpler It looks reasonable to me. The user has only posted things promoting their products/blog (including at least one additional one which was deleted today). IMO, their motivation is only to promote themselves.

My policy is that I decide when to comment.

@Makyen cheers
@SFTP sure, but our policy is that bold thing art just mentioned. i'm going out on a limb there leaving a comment at all, and wanted to check with someone familiar.

SFTP has removed SFTP from the list of this room's owners.‌

10:19 PM
@ArtOfDuck While I can't speak for others, I've been trying to follow that. When I don't have a relationship/experience with the site beyond going there to respond to SD reports, I've been using custom moderator flags to bring posts to the attention of moderators instead of leaving comments.

@Makyen Same

Aye, just thought I'd chuck it out since I didn't know if that was an exceptional report or whether y'all were familiar with the site :)

raising a mod flag is easier anyways
although I would say that ostensibly a spam flag should be the same, except that we don't actually want to destroy the post ourselves, we want a mod to look
the downsides to red flags

On a considerable number of occasions, I feel it's better to try to educate the user, rather than just red-flag delete. Obviously, this is situational (content, user's attitude/intent as determinable by content, # of instances by same user, etc.). Prior to the change in policy, I had been leaving comments to try to inform users and often not red-flagging (again, situational), but providing tp feedback. After the comment policy change, I've been resorting to custom mod-flags.

@GrantGarrison You are not a privileged user. Please see the privileges wiki page for information on what privileges are and what is expected of privileged users.

@quartata Personally, I, currently, find it significantly more work. I had already created multiple auto-comments to cover various situations/tones. I'll now need to adjust those so they address the issue to the moderator in a custom flag and modify the autoflagging userscript to apply to the custom moderator flag dialog. Then apply those comments so they are available in all domains. So, no, not easier.
