How much RAM does MS live at usually (and also could we include that info on a dev page somewhere)?

@thesecretmaster SQL and Redis CPU usage didn't even twitch
@thesecretmaster 1583M right now; I'd guess that's fairly stable.
Remember that's running the whole Rails universe (MS + Sentinel + Redunda + MS AC)
... so it's possible that metasmoke isn't even at fault

I feel like 400mb might not be enough headroom. How many threads/processes is each rails thing using?

@thesecretmaster We might be able to solve this by just tweaking something so the OOM killer gets Rails instead of nginx

True, and/or drop a couple processes from MS. Maybe take it down to 5?

@SmokeDetector Undisclosed affiliation. The name of the blog author matches the OP's username.

@thesecretmaster Done

That might be it, but we should also look at making the OOM killer kill rails more.

@Rob I'm really not sure what you were attempting to do with the !!/watch you posted. Regexes that are added via !!/watch are checked against post content, post titles, and usernames (be very careful with watches you add intended for usernames, as they tend to catch multiple users). Were you trying to have us look at everything that user posts? If so, the way to do so is to add the user to the user-blacklist. You can do that with the !!/addblu command.

@Undo Is there a way to run a command using the PID on startup of a thread?
Because you can tweak OOM score by setting /proc/<pid>/oom_adj

@Undo Also, while I'm here, do you think I should swap my current pinned message for one asking people to test /search_fast? Seems like there aren't any bugs with the rest of the redis stuff, and I want to fully migrate over to /search_fast..

Regression about five months ago. Lines up really well.
AFK, but that's probably the place to look.

@thesecretmaster Your domain on that

@ArtOfCode (since you did API stuff IIRC) Where can I stick a before_action for API stuff?
@Undo What passenger version are we on?

@thesecretmaster what are you trying to do?

@ArtOfCode Logging

5:31 PM
um
that API kinda lives in a different world to the rest of Rails, stand by

Also, speaking of logging, I know you're busy, but at some point I'd love for you to look at my UI and give me some feedback.

Aha! Thanks.
That doesn't give me any info about the request though, does it... I'd figure it out.

@thesecretmaster Easiest way to get me to do that is throw some screenshots in a PR, then I don't have to set up which is half the time sink
@thesecretmaster is request not a thing there?

I'll find out, but I doubt it.
@ArtOfCode Will do
@ArtOfCode this is all I need, thanks :)

@SmokeDetector Plagiarism? - they say they copy and paste
@SmokeDetector Also 5 years old - got bumped :)

@JakeSymons If they say they copy-&-pasted it, then it's not plagiarism. Plagiarism is presenting work done by someone else as your own, either intentionally or by just forgetting to credit the source. In academia, there is also a concept of self-plagiarism, as there are contexts where you really need to note that you are copying from earlier work done by yourself.

@Makyen So as long as credit's provided it's not plagiarism. Thanks :)

@Makyen OK, I noticed that there was one user whom posted a NAA with the URL you were concerned about at the end of her post. My intention was to watch for that user with slightly more weight and check everything they post since they made a first post with an URL that was of concern to you. Also that site is part of the Amazon Referral Network and doesn't permit spamming. That is why I specifically left a message for you, but others read it and wished to act upon it, decided they
couldn't understand their intercepted message or know the background of your reasons and cancelled the PR.
Merry Christmas BTW. 🎅

right so
@Makyen this Solar is a brand new clone
operating on the brand new SmokeDetector subnet on the box
operating with static IP, and a brand new set of pulled deps and such
HOPEFULLY it all behaves.

@ThomasWard Cool. Sounds good. Hopefully it does behave. :-) Given that the other instances reacted the same as Solar wrt. not recovering from MS downtime, I don't think that's a problem with Solar's config. It seems much more a general SD issue.
